I think the simplest way to end the season earlier is to only take two playoff teams per district. This will save two weeks in the season. Cut out the passing league???????? :confused: :eek: :madman: What does that have to do with anything????? Ok then, let's cut out the passing league, but we'll also cut out all the open gym time that goes on during football season, plus summer (mandatory in most programs) AAU teams.

I'm not sure why everyone is so against the idea. Why is football the only sport where class size is brought up? Do you think kids at a 4A school hit harder than kids at a A school? Depth may be an issue, but so be it. In every other sport, it is not an issue. No one yells out if Trinity and Beechwood meet in the baseball finals, or Paintsville v. PRP in basketball.

Actually, Gross did not become the feature back in Russell's backfield until late into his Freshman season. He only rushed for 500+ yards this season. He was an unproven talent who got a few carries here and there until he exploded late.

I'm wondering why no one has mentioned the fact that rain slowing down Ashland's passing attack might have played into the equation. I'm not saying that it was a reason, but I figured we'd have heard it by now.

I think we're all confused. That is the point of this thread. The forecast shows less rain tomorrow night. Less rain = more $$$$$ in the decision makers eyes. Using your logic: then how will rescheduling the game help the condition of the field? Two days of rain saturation (tomorrow) vs. one day (tonight).

Nope. I've just been around long enough to know how it works. If field conditions were the reasons for rescheduling games, you'd see a lot more games rescheduled.

Your points may be valid and true. However, I GUARANTEE you that the condition of the field played 1% of the decision and $$$$$ played 99%.

It's not about safety. It's not about vacations. It is about the almighty $$$$$$. This is their biggest gate, so they want to make sure the most people possible will attend, no matter what. Who cares about anything else. Pathetic.

The geography issue is not good in this system already! Russell's district at this moment (and for the past several years) consists of Morgan County (2 hours on a bus), Powell County (2+ hours on a bus) and Estill County (2 and 1/2 hours on a bus). Sure, JC driving to Bryan Station/Woodford Co. is a long trip! Mapquest claims it is 2 hours 22 minutes, less time than Russell to Estill County. And, at least those schools are off of I64! The ride is relatively smooth.

If Brandon Williams is on, look for a low scoring game.

East Carter is actually 26-5. Not sure why KHSAA has them at 26-2. I guess they didn't call all of their games in. Same reason KHSAA has Boyd at 16-8 instead of 21-9.

The Coaches Poll seems a little strange. Here are some of what I see: 1. Paul Dunbar at #10 (17-11)????????? 2. Tates Creek at #15 (20-12)???????? 3. Henry Clay at #16 (20-10)????????? 4. Louisville Ballard at #25 (19-10)???? No disrespect to these teams, but it seems like a lot of deserving teams are ignored. Here are some of the teams I've found are overlooked: 1. St. Mary (20-6) 2. Bourbon Co. (20-4) 3. Harrison Co. (20-5) 4. Leslie Co. (23-4) 5. East Carter (25-5) Not even an honorable mention vote for either of these five teams. There are also several other 20 game winners without a single vote (Raceland 21-8, Russell 22-12, Fairview 20-9- and that is just from the 16th region). Plus, Clark County received two votes and there isn't even a Clark County High School! If you are thinking they meant George Rogers Clark, they also are on the list with votes!

That must be old. The KHSAA has Lafayette as 18-9. Plus, there is no way they could have played 41 games at this point in the season. You are only allowed 30 with 3 tournaments max (4 games in a tournament max). That means they can only play 36 games max with three 4 game tournaments.

Why play in the regular season? Don't know. Hoping to get them overconfident maybe. Quite possibly true about Cook, but that is a different scenario. That team had three/four stud pitchers. Wilcox had the confidence that he could beat BC then. Now, he obviously doesn't. That is where this strategy comes in to play.

It's not the fact that BC hasn't seen pitchers who throw as hard or harder, it's just that they haven't seen his stuff. He can be a tremendous pitcher, and his stuff is good. I understand the philosophy. Williams is their only shot of beating BC. If you faced Williams twice in a season, then you have made your adjustments by the time district rolls around. Only seeing him in the district heightens their advantage. However, I hate this philosophy. This point right here is why I think districts have to be seeded. I believe teams should play every game to win. If you seed districts, then you shouldn't see teams throwing JV pitchers out there and making a mockery of the game (no offense to those pitchers).

Ashland does that every time! I never understand it either, but it seemed to work last year. Boyd beat Ashland 12-0 and 8-2, both times facing poor Ashland pitching. Then, as everyone probably knows, Ashland beat them 1-0 behind the pitching of Williams in the district championship. However, myself, I would not use that philosophy.

And/or throwing them against two teams that are a combined 4-27.
