Please explain what you feel the correct call should have been. From my view of the play, the catcher NEVER tagged Clark. The Catcher was standing in front of the plate, blocking the entire thing. The throw came at the same time as Clark trying to touch the plate. The throw was slightly behind the catcher, causing him to turn slightly backwards, thus allowing Clark to hit him in the side/back. No tag was made. From those circumstances, the umpire has two choices. #1) Call malicious contact, the runner is automatically out and tossed from the game, or #2) the runner is safe due to the fact that no tag was made and the catcher obstructed the base. This is the problem. If it was malicious contact, the umpire should have enforced the rule and tossed Clark out of the game. If it wasn't, there is no way Clark could be called out. I don't care if the umpire has 100 years of experience, he blew it by not calling either #1 or #2. He took the easy road.

Whatever dude. Ryle was a very good team. Russell is pretty good as well. Russell threw their #4 or #5 pitcher. If you think they are only as good as that pitcher, you are wrong. He is not fast (he throws more than 60) but keeps hitters off balance and is very good for his age. Heck, he threw a complete game and struck out five. Good hitters don't strike out five times against a crappy pitcher. There were circumstances that hurt both teams in the game. Russell won. Get over it.

Well, the kid is not the fastest pitcher in the world, but he throws in the mid to low 70's. Also, Ryle's first two runs came on two consecutive errors (1st hitter singled, second got on on as E4, third got on on an E5) so both runs were unearned. The fourth run got on on an E6 after two outs, so take away those runs and Russell wins 4-2. That is why this is baseball. Teams capitalize on other's mistakes. Russell is a good team. There not world beaters, but they are very good. By the way, the guy sliding into the glove is simply your opinion. I was at the game as well and my opinion is that the runner was safe. Who is right? Also, the questionable safe/out at second came after it was already 7-5, so how did that call beat Ryle?

Sounds like some sour grapes here. This soph pitcher only happened to strike out 5, walk 1, give up 8 hits and 1 earned run. Not bad. Guess you didn't realize you don't have to be a fireballer to be a good pitcher. Ryle's pitchers threw pretty hard, but gave up 8 walks.

They didn't hit the ball too well. They only had 3 hits, reached base on error 3 times, and they went out 1-2-3 three times and out 1-2-3-4 the other 4 innings.

Ugly game. Pitching will be the difference. At this point in the season, the Devils are searching for the best 5 pitchers, with only two found so far. If they can find the 3 consistent to fill out the demand, they can suprise a few this year.

Setting ANY age limit will penalize certain kids versus others. I first thought, heck, maybe the limit should be that a high school athlete cannot turn 20 before the end of the school year. However, thinking about it, I think the age cut off must be BEFORE school starts. If not, can you imagine schools? I know if this was the rule and I was on the calendar committee, I would GUARANTEE that I established the last day of school before my stud turned 20.

Henry County has some definite talent to work with next year. They were HUGE on the offensive line (not sure who is graduating) and had some very fast players as well. This team could be dangerous next season.

Those kids were freshmen this year. They'll be sophomores next football season.

The high school in Maysville is Mason County. They had a good run a few years ago when they had Dustin Grutza at QB (now at Cincinnati) and Chris Lofton (basketball at Tennessee). They were ranked #1 in AA for awhile but lost to Russell twice, most importantly in the regional finals. They struggled two years ago, winning only one game I believe, but rebounded and look to be contenders once again. They have a very good coach who is very offensive minded.

If he can keep the team together and focused, they should compete in their district. Their freshman squad last season and this season were both tough.

Begin by volunteering if you have to. Help with the middle school, freshmen, whatever you need. Be there as much as you can and learn not only offenses and defenses run by your school, but practice preparation, motivation, game planning. Ask as many questions as you can and soak up the information.

Lewis County is a good program for their area. Lewis County is located between Mason County and Greenup County on the Ohio River. It is a very rural county and community. They are always mildly competitive (2A school) who usually finishes around 5-5, 4-6. They play in the same district as Russell, Fleming County and that crew so really good seasons are few and far between. I cannot remember the last time they have made the playoffs. I do know that Coach Prater has been at Lewis for a LONG time and has kept the program competitive. The job would be one that requires a LOT of work. I know that the coach has to raise all of the funds for the football program themselves. As far as I know, the school does not give them any funds.

Good point. My bad. It would be cool if they did invite the four KY schools though.
