Another mercy rule game for Boyd against Ashland :ylsuper: :dancingpa

Any clue of who pitched???

Casey Branham pitched for Boyd, but I'm not sure who pitched for Ashland. Boyd plated 10 runs in the 1st and the rest was history after that.

Rigsby and Slone pitched the first inning. Dont know who the lefty was. Why leave your better pitchers out against Boyd.....It aint like Ashland is loaded anyway.....Why save your "Powerhouse" till distirct play? Do you not think Boyd isnt seeing anyone throwing 85 to 90 ALL year as it is???? They should give the money back on this game. Pit:fight: iful

Ashland does that every time! I never understand it either, but it seemed to work last year. Boyd beat Ashland 12-0 and 8-2, both times facing poor Ashland pitching. Then, as everyone probably knows, Ashland beat them 1-0 behind the pitching of Williams in the district championship. However, myself, I would not use that philosophy.

The lefty was Alex Tomlin. He is a senior and has pitched in about only 3 games. He atleast threw the ball over the plate and also got hurt by a few errors.

 

I seen the comment in the paper this morning where Coach Wilcox stated he did not know why his team came out without any fire against one of the best teams in the region. How do you expect your kids to be fired up for this game when you are giving it away as a coach. Nothing against Rigsby and Slone because they will be be good player in a couple of years, but they did not need to be put in that situation. Its not going to help there confidence any.

 

Ashlands left fielder went to the hospital after the game. He was diving for a flyball and pulled his groin and suffered a mild concusion. Remember him in your prayers and hope for a speedy recovery.

I'm curious why Ashland seems to never have much depth on the mound. To have a good program you need to develop a pitching staff. It doesnt just happen. You can throw good athletes out there in other positions but just waiting until Spring to find your pitchers is a recipe for disaster.

 

Are the Ashland kids losing interest in baseball? Do they feel they can't play multiple sports? Do we not have the proper facilities or coaching available year-round to develop pitchers? Is there anyone looking for the good arms in the youth leagues and encouraging them?

 

Can some Ashland supporters tell me why we don't seem to maintain a higher level of success on the baseball field. Are we just in a down period for athletes? We've had a pretty strong (and successful) team at times lately - what is needed to maintain that?

 

If I'm off base, please give me the details.

Rather than criticize anyone at Ashland (or any other local high school program) for any lack of achievement, I'll just explain why that Boyd Co. is always a few notches above everyone else in the area. It is really a very simple explanation. The Boyd Co. staff just plain and simply outworks everyone else. The game is taught or conditioned for 12 months out of the year, by Maynard , Ramsey and Co. Nobody in the business (at least in eastern Ky ) is more dedicated than these guys in making sure that the offseason is not idle time for the players that dont play multiple sports. You can guarantee that they will be doing something baseball related. Is it ironic that the two Spade years resulted in a rate of success falling much shorter than the prior and post Spade era years, by basicly the same staff? Hamilton was a great coach, but I think that it is pretty evident of the competency of his assistants, and much of his former success can be directly attributed to the staff that is currently in place at Boyd County.

It just makes no sense to me. I can remember the days when you looked forward to watching two great pitchers at the BC Ashland game. Where has the fun gone??? Does Wilcox think BC is not seeing pitchers who throw as hard or harder than Williams????PLEASE....If thats the case....Wanna buy a used lottery ticket?????

It's not the fact that BC hasn't seen pitchers who throw as hard or harder, it's just that they haven't seen his stuff. He can be a tremendous pitcher, and his stuff is good. I understand the philosophy. Williams is their only shot of beating BC. If you faced Williams twice in a season, then you have made your adjustments by the time district rolls around. Only seeing him in the district heightens their advantage.

 

However, I hate this philosophy. This point right here is why I think districts have to be seeded. I believe teams should play every game to win. If you seed districts, then you shouldn't see teams throwing JV pitchers out there and making a mockery of the game (no offense to those pitchers).

With that philosophy, If I was Ashland, why even play Boyd during the season. However, I think Chad Cook beat Boyd County four times in one season a couple years ago.

Why play in the regular season? Don't know. Hoping to get them overconfident maybe. Quite possibly true about Cook, but that is a different scenario. That team had three/four stud pitchers. Wilcox had the confidence that he could beat BC then. Now, he obviously doesn't. That is where this strategy comes in to play.

I might be way off, but I dont think this Ashland team has a prayer to beating Boyd, even with Williams.

I hope BC pounds out about 25 hits and makes them look like fools. Not a very good moral booster for Ashland to do what they did last week. As Your famous Ashland announcer Dicky Martin says..."ITS O-V-E-R...OVER!!!!"

I highly disagree,time will tell about these coaches,these kids have been in that system for a long time.Spade and his staff was good coaches too,it was about the kids not them.
