This one was played on a VERY sloppy field. The only player that kept his footing throughout the game was the quick scrambling QB of Perry Central. He was all over the field, easily accounting for 75% of the Commodore offensive output. He was easily the smallest player on the field, and it was obvious the mud was a distinct advantage for him running out of the spread. He made would be tacklers, normally dependable defensive players, look really bad with his change of directions. Prestonsburg won, but the Blackcats won't last in the tourney if they don't start rushing the QB in a controlled, disciplined manner. A running QB must be forced to earn yardage with his arm, not given running lanes in which to take off. The outside LB's rushed straight in, paying little attention to outside containment, and the tackles and ends took wide rushing lanes leaving inside gaps all night. The Commodores had one score called back and the Blackcats had two. Ugly ballgame on an ugly field. Prestonsburg needs to play a LOT better if they want to be a factor in the playoffs. :bunny:

Somehow, I'm NOT surprised... If it happens, I'd like to sit next to your bunch during the game (hopefully your sister, too, if she makes the trip). :lol: :lol:

Substitute any school into that sentence and it's true. That's what earning a State Title is all about. P-burg favored from Regional on ? No... But IMO, it's better that way. Prestonsburg has done quite well as the underdog in past tourneys. :thumb:

Shelby Valley scored after a P-burg fumble deep in Blackcat territory in the first half. Prestonsburg moved the ball, but could never finish. In the 3rd qtr., SV scored on an INT return. They led 12-0 at this point. P-burg finally broke through on a 40 yd. run by Setser off a playfake counter. In the 4th, the SV defense turned P-burg away TWICE in the red zone. P-burg got the ball with ~5 mins. remaining at midfield. The Blackcats kept the ball on the ground, requiring 2 conversions on 4th down to sustain. Finally, on 4th and 7 from the 8 yd. line with Final score: P-burg 13 Shelby Valley 12 All the credit in the world to Shelby Valley last night. Shelby Valley put everyone in the box last night, daring P-burg to throw. P-burg responded by throwing 3 INTS and had 7 drops, but ONE spectacular catch to win it. If the Wildcat offense did ANYTHING in the 2nd half (had ONE 1st down), this one would have gone the other way.

Wowsa !!! :eek: We almost had an upset of this magnitude in in EKY 2A, also.

I'd prefer having 2 teams/district go into the tourney. It's a nice, simple fix that doesn't require bye's and still reward the district champion by allowing them to host the first playoff game.

I have known officials to form pre-conceived ideas of a given team's play habits (probably from conversation among them) and sometimes be a overly aggressive because of it, but... To hold a championship team to a "higher standard"? I haven't seen that. If anything, I've seen the reverse - borderline infractions are more likely to get the benefit of doubt.

Nice job, Berea...This is the RIGHT way to rebuild a program. Motivating the kids to play ball is the first step. A couple teams around here need to take that tack. :thumb:

On a relative basis, no one in the state has played as tough a schedule as has Bardstown. And to a lesser degree (than Lawrence Co.), that schedule has chewed them up and spit them out.
