Who's played the most ranked opponents?

Featured Replies

I know all of you are getting sick of me pointing at Lawrence Counties non-district schedule as the primary culprit in our winless season, so tell me which other teams out there have really had a rough schedule. LC's 7 game non-district schedule includes 4 of the top 6 ranked 3A schools, 1 top 10 2A school and 2 non-ranked 5A schools, one of which (Letcher) has been ranked in the top ten. So our non-district schedule has a total of 1 school that is not and hasn't been ranked in the BGP top ten of their class.:scared:

Raceland has played a 1A number 2 team, a 1A number 8 team, and a now number 10 5A team. We will also play a top 10 3A team before the season is over.

But, I will concede that that Lawrence County has played a tough schedule.

Warren Central

8/30 - 4A #1 Boyle County

9/5 - North Hardin (formerly ranked)

9/12 - at 5A #2 John Hardin

9/19 - 5A #6 Christian County

9/26 - 5A #3 Bowling Green

10/10 - Barren County

10/17 - Greenwood

10/24 - Grayson County

10/31 - 5A #9 Hopkinsville

11/7 - Bardstown (formerly ranked)

Central plays one non-district opponent that was never ranked, and North Hardin was still ranked when they played. The one non-district opponent that was never ranked is a cross-town rival, which is why they play. 7 out of the 10 opponents on Warren Central's schedule are either ranked now or have been ranked. Boyle, John Hardin, and Bowling Green are consensus top 15 teams in the state, maybe top 10 in the state.

According to the Massey Ratings, Warren Central's schedule is the 15th toughest in the state. The toughest? Trinity.

Well Owensboro has played Hopkinsville and will play Christian Co. in 5A played Daviess Co. in 6A and also played Evansville Reitz in Indiana ranked in the top 10 overall in the state of Indiana. Also played #6 in 2A Owensboro Catholic and if Henderson Co. wins this week they may crack the top 10 in 6A before we play them.

So that would be 5 ranked in the state and we are 6-0 but of course we are ranked #4 in 5A and #7 overall in the state on maxprep.

But the state rankings are really not close since there is such a drop from the top 1 or 2 down to the rest in each class.

I'll be broadcasting a game between two winless teams this Friday, South Oldham and Shelby County. I note that Shelby County has played the following:

Manual, Madison Central, Scott County - 6A ranked top 10

Johnson Central - 5A ranked top 10

North Bullitt - 4A ranked top 10

Non-ranked opponents to date:

6A George Rogers Clark 5-3 (losses to Madison Central, Scott Co. & Henry Clay)

6A North Hardin

6A Eastern (7-1) - likely to be ranked after defeating #4 Ballard this week

Yet to play:

5A South Oldham (winless)

5A Oldham County (currently #8 BGP 5A, and likely to go up this week)

That's six ranked opponents and probably 7 if Eastern makes the top ten as is likely this week.

Wow.

On a relative basis, no one in the state has played as tough a schedule as has Bardstown. And to a lesser degree (than Lawrence Co.), that schedule has chewed them up and spit them out.
