  1. I used to use a slide rule in high school, but then someone went and invented the calculator and all that hard earned knowledge went for naught.
  2. I've seen O-Cath play several times in the past. Hard to believe this one!!! Congrats to the OHS.
  3. The age cutoff was changed this year to May 1. The KY Royals have a few good ones as well.
  4. So the umpire made a difinitive call, decided he was wrong, and asked the home plate ump, who didn't see the play, to bail him out??? WOW! I thought he had it right the first time. Now, at least to me, he looks wrong and more wrong. Another strange event was that half way through the game which was senior nite for WV, 2 senior starters left the game to go to an awards ceremony. I guess a 6-18 season can do that to you. Regardless, none of this should detract from the fact that both pitchers pictched very well.
  5. It was over in a hurry, for sure. One interesting call by the boys in blue. In the last AB for WV, on a grounder that the SS bobbled and then threw to first, the field umpire called the batter out. Without being asked for help (at least I didn't see it), the home umpire overruled the field umpire and called the batter safe. Isn't this a breach of umpiring etiquette?
  6. This is a shocker. WV has had a tough time winning games this year. Any details?
  7. The runner on 2B was forced to 3B and must reach 3b to take the force away. The run definitely does NOT count.
  8. If Georgetown wants to stay on par next year, they will need a pitcher or two like Curley. Yes, they have numerous talented freshmen, but will be loosing 3 of their top 4 starters to graduation. Considering the limited amount of scholarship money available at GC (3 1/2 scholarships last year), I personally would be very surprised if they can get Curley. It would be nice, but I just don't see it happening. Of course, you also have to look at what happened to Travis Smith last year holding out for the best offer. Widely considered one of the top prospects in the NKY area (Ranked as high as #149 nationally as a junior) he's not even playing baseball now. Regardless, this thread is about signed players so congratulations to Eric.
  9. That is REALLY sad! But somehow, I'm not surprised. First hand, I don't believe the 'possible' 3-4mph gain is worth the risk, pain, worry and expense. That is simply a very bad decision.
  10. My son is one of the WV players that had TJS in HS. I can assure it wasn't from overuse. Unfortunately for my son, it was a misdiagnosis. He saw doctors for several years about some elbow pain that started after one particular outing. They all told him it was tendonitis and that he couldn't do any more damage to it by playing. They told him to take some OTC pain relievers and carry on. Finally, after two years of frustration, we took him to a specialist, Dr. Kremchek. Within 5 minutes, he had diagnosed the problem and had him scheduled for an MRI to verify. He had severe damage to the ulnar collateral ligament and required surgery. The surgery revealed that the ligament was totally gone. Part of it had calcified from the initial injury and that in turn shredded the remaining ligament. They removed a segment of tendon from his leg and grafted it to the elbow bones. Two years later, after extensive rehab, he is playing college ball at Georgetown College. The arm, by all indications, it totally healthy. It was a difficult decision to make - whether to have the surgery or not. He could have lived a perfectly normal life without the surgery, but he really wanted the opportunity to play in college and couldn't continue with the pain he was having. Not all of these injuries are from overuse. There are basically two scenarios, the overuse that has been discussed and the one time injury that does the damage. Don't assume that all of these kids are being abused. Coaches, parents and players are more informed than ever and most coaches are pretty conscientious. Personally, I think that these surgeries are more prevalent now because of better medicine. Doctors know what they're looking for and the surgery is more accessable. In my era, they just told you you had a tired arm and sent you home. Who knows how many 40-50 yr olds are running around that would have been TJS candidates. It wasn't an option.
  11. Heard that Ludlow had a pitcher come in throwing mid 80's. Anyone know who that was?
  12. The KY Royals 18u coach is Ryan Ponotowski. Beau Brake will be assisting him. As mentioned before, I'm sure the Royals would welcome anyone who could improve their team. They play their home games at Boone Co. HS. For contact info, you can PM me.
  13. University of Tampa is DII currently with a 4-3 record. They have a game scheduled vs NKU March 8. For info see: http://www.ut.edu/athletics/sportsinfo.html
  14. No brainer. Grant Co. or SK. They definitely got their better of it.
  15. Does that mean Curley is also going to NKY? I heard they wanted to stick together.
  16. I definitely agree. I didn't think WV put much effort into the game until about 3 minutes left in the 3rd. I almost left from boredom at half time. Glad I didn't - the 2nd half was fairly entertaining. I would imagine with their lack of depth, it would be very difficult to maintain that level for the entire game. I still feel they should have opened up with more pressure. WV had no answer for CC's big man. A few undisciplined decisions got him into foul trouble and the game was much different without him on the floor. Franklin D. played a very good game. He was WV's only offensive threat except when the pressure created chaos and fast break ops. I'm not sure what happened to Tungate. The WV offensive movement was very stagnant and he hardly touched the ball. By far the best player on the floor was #55 for Carroll Co. WV had no answer for them.
  17. Got to see Clint pitch vs Walton Verona in last year's All-A. He was dominant. Certainly a worthy candidate. I wish him well.
  18. GO CATS! Barring unforeseen events, I definitely plan on making it to this one.
  19. CSI, WVHS vs Henry Co.? CSI, WVHS vs Henry Co.? CSI, WVHS vs Henry Co.? Hmm, I really wanted to get over there tonight to see this one, but I'd miss CSI and I don't have TiVo yet. Either way, I wish the Cats lots of luck and hopefully, they'll prevail.
  20. I'd have more to say if I could get to a few games. Hope to get there soon.
  21. Reggie has been practicing and is expected to play, but still think SK wins handily.
  22. The new school additions will be started this spring, but the field won't be touched until WV Baseball's season is finished. Expect to see the dozers there very soon after that. The athletic complex will be in association with the Boone County Parks and will include track, football, soccer and baseball facilities. I've been told WV will begin a middle school football program next year. The field will have grass infield so it will be 90' bases only and will be limited to WV use during the school season and some select teams during the summer. We can only hope it's 1/2 as homey as the current field. Regardless, I'm sure Coach McIntyre and the WV faithful will put many hours into the field to make it a fine facility.
  23. Walton-Verona High School field was recently selected by the American Basaeball Coaches Association (ABCA) & Turface Field Products as High School Field Of The Year for 2005. This is a national award and Coach McIntyre will travel to Chicago in January for the National Baseball Coaches Convention to accept the award. Ironically, 2006 will be the last year for this diamond of diamonds. WV will be bulldozing the field to allow for more classrooms and building a new field off-campus in Verona.   Congratulations to Coach McIntyre, Walton-Verona High School and all the players whose sweat and hard work went into making this facility worthy of such an honor.
  24. Georgetown may have started with 40 players last year, but they only returned 8 players this fall. Many decided to leave the team for various reasons. Coach Hagen brought in ~35 freshmen this fall. I would guess about half of those were awarded scholarships. He plans to have a JV and Varsity squad. That was also the intentions last year, but the numbers didn't support it.
  25. Beechnut, maybe you know - Did Johnny Alford make the cut at Louisville?
