Villa Madonna 1 Walton 0 (no hitter)

Featured Replies

Villa Senior Kyle Herbstreit threw 7 innings, striking out 11 and walking three. The game only saw two hits both coming from Villa Senior Kevin Slaughter. Herbstreit's no hitter was his second of the season, the first being on April 24th against Cavalry Christian. The Bearcats threw right hander Tyler Ryan who struck out 5 giving up 2 hits. The only run scored in the 3rd after a Hit batsmen, a stolen base, and a fielding error.

Probably due to the title. They want game scores titled "VMA 1 Walton 0" instead of a news headline type title.

Impressive!

I bet the umpires were pleased with the time this one took!

Good luck to both teams in the district tournament.

It was over in a hurry, for sure. One interesting call by the boys in blue. In the last AB for WV, on a grounder that the SS bobbled and then threw to first, the field umpire called the batter out. Without being asked for help (at least I didn't see it), the home umpire overruled the field umpire and called the batter safe. Isn't this a breach of umpiring etiquette?

I believe this was the arguement that Villa coaches had to but the field umpire claimed to have asked for help and that the home umpire did not see it. The field ump called the runner out. Began walking back to the dug out and the field ump a few seconds later called the home plate umpire to a conference where the runner was deemed safe.

So the umpire made a difinitive call, decided he was wrong, and asked the home plate ump, who didn't see the play, to bail him out??? WOW! I thought he had it right the first time. Now, at least to me, he looks wrong and more wrong.

Another strange event was that half way through the game which was senior nite for WV, 2 senior starters left the game to go to an awards ceremony. I guess a 6-18 season can do that to you. Regardless, none of this should detract from the fact that both pitchers pictched very well.

Whoa so 2 senior left ON SENIOR NIGHT, must have been a pretty important awards ceremony. But it is true it was a mervelously pitched game. One in which its sad to see one of them have to get a loss. A 2 hitter and a loss has to stink, it just has to!

Back to the umpire thing, I think he made a call with a lcack of confidence and then asked the homeplate ump who I dont think really had much a clue or not if the 1st basemens foot was indeed pulled off the bag. It made for a very interesting 7th inning.
