BoxSeat Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Walton-Verona High School field was recently selected by the American Basaeball Coaches Association (ABCA) & Turface Field Products as High School Field Of The Year for 2005. This is a national award and Coach McIntyre will travel to Chicago in January for the National Baseball Coaches Convention to accept the award. Ironically, 2006 will be the last year for this diamond of diamonds. WV will be bulldozing the field to allow for more classrooms and building a new field off-campus in Verona.   Congratulations to Coach McIntyre, Walton-Verona High School and all the players whose sweat and hard work went into making this facility worthy of such an honor.
Just Jim Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Congrats to the Bearcats on a great field. It will be interesting to see how the off campus field takes shape. Hopefully it will be as intimate a setting as the current field. Will it only be for school use, or since its off site will Boone County Parks system be involved? Also, I thought the new school additions were being started in the spring. Will they play all their games at the current site and construction start after the season?
BoxSeat Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 The new school additions will be started this spring, but the field won't be touched until WV Baseball's season is finished. Expect to see the dozers there very soon after that. The athletic complex will be in association with the Boone County Parks and will include track, football, soccer and baseball facilities. I've been told WV will begin a middle school football program next year. The field will have grass infield so it will be 90' bases only and will be limited to WV use during the school season and some select teams during the summer. We can only hope it's 1/2 as homey as the current field. Regardless, I'm sure Coach McIntyre and the WV faithful will put many hours into the field to make it a fine facility.
CatFanatic Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 It will be sad to see the old field go. I know a lot of young men have put many hours of work into getting it into the shape it is in today. Congrats to the alma mater!
sixtyfeetsix Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Is the fench still extremely short? That was a home run derby fest back in the day.
Guest *FARBEYONDDRIVEN Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Is the fench still extremely short? That was a home run derby fest back in the day. Nice field , but still a crackerbox. No offense to the W-V faithful, but I have seen many HS fields in the state of KY that i would take over" Mcintyre Field". Henry Co. and St. Henry just to name two.
