Like I said, it doesn't bother me that Somerset plays up, and I'm certainly not that familiar with the travel logistics. I'm just saying that if I had the choice Somerset had, it would have been the same.

^ And before anyone loses their minds about my above post, I commend Somerset for playing up. Schools should give their kids the best chance to succeed, and Somerset has done that.

Well, I would move up so that I could stay away from Danville and Corbin, and instead play Jackson, Garrard, Wayne, and Casey. The official answer is that it would save travel time, but I would just as soon travel to the moon before going to Jackson or Casey County.

It certainly hurt them versus Somerset in the region semifinals.

Lincoln returns almost their entire team. The problem at Lincoln is that some of those kids may opt out of baseball for basketball. They should be good, though.

There may not be a new champ; Somerset returns almost their whole team. Besides them, Mercer, West Jessamine, Rockastle and Boyle probably will be on the short list.

I applaude the coach for choosing natural turf. A little more work involved, but well worth it...

Not in right field

Thanks Firebird. Actually, I like Danville's field. It is one of the nicer fields in the upper 12th region. However, I've always thought that it was a bit too small for high school baseball, and really too small for American Legion ball with college players and the like. It's only my opinion, but I'm sure that the other legion teams agreed to play there, so it's not really an issue.

Judging by the ridiculous score and number of homeruns, I'm assuming this game was played at Danville High School?

Does Somerset still have a legion team?

Did John score a 30 on his ACT?

According to Coach McAninch at Pulaski, state schools didn't put forth much interest. He said that Henderson at UK had called about John a few times, but they were wanting him to go the junior college rout, which might have been the better fit for John. Western nor Eastern expressed much interest, which is confusing at best.

John attended the Perfect Game showcase in Florida last fall, and many D-1 schools found out about him that way. I think they also may have seen him throw at a showcase at Louisville. Pulaski's coach sent some video to Purdue and Indiana, and Coach Sailors came down to watch their district tourney game.

Mercer County and Somerset should be at the top, with West Jessamine and Rockastle close behind.

Kenny Washam had a short stint in pro ball in the early 1990's if I'm not mistaken... But Lucas is a good kid that has earned everything he's gotten through hard work. There's another kid down there that could have similar, if not better, professional opportunities if he sticks with baseball. But sometimes basketball and football have a way of brainwashing kids...

Whatever happened to the kid that pitched that game for Highlands. Glaser was his name, maybe? Didn't he get drafted in the first or second round that year?

Very surprised by this score. Sounds like Ryle had their way with Wallen, but 4 errors surely didn't help matters. Will Somerset start Molen tonight, or did he throw last night?

The one thing that stands out to me was "...you will see a lot of junk..." Somerset likes the fastball. The thing is, if Ryle's pitchers throw a lot of off spead stuff, Somerset will try to run wild on the bases. How is Ryle's catcher?

It would have been nice if Somerset could have won the region last year - sectionals were at Pulaski County. Bad thing was, though, they would have had to play LexCath.

That makes sense; Pulaski made the sectional finals two years in a row a few years back to be one teh final 8 teams, but that was in the days of the old section 3 tournament. I'm pretty good with 12th region history back until about '90, but please send me what info you have. Thanks.

Quite a few teams have gone to the final 8 from the 12th since '81, and I'm pretty sure Laurel advanced to the final 4 once or twice during the 80's. I wish there was a way to look those types of things up.
