I don't know, but he was belt high with a lot of stuff and Catholic hit him a little. My question is this... He's going to be a high draft pick, my guess would be in the top 4 rounds. Why is he playing football and risking that much money?

That is really impressive if he's at those numbers. When you get above 92, there are few people in the country that can match you. He'll be hard to handle for 12th region teams.

Not to be contradictory, and this is all conjecture, but I'd be surprised if Witten gains much more velocity, simply judging by his body type. In their sectional vs LexCath last season, he topped at 90. He has a thick build, and will probably get thicker. He is very similar to Austin Kearns as a high school pitcher, who went from 94 as a junior to 88 as a senior. Of course, Witten may be a better high school hitter than Kearns was, and that's scary.

Brown and Perkins threw every game I saw them play last year, and I don't remember an outsdanding JV pitcher on their roster, so I'm not sure.

Rockastle's Perkins is a super talented sophomore. I only managed to see him throw 2 games last year; one was outstanding while the other wasn't. I like Bussell at Rock, but he over uses his pitchers a little bit I think.

Jordy was an interesting pitcher from my point of view last year. He reminded me of another lefty Somerset had from a few years ago named David Langford. Both were a little on the weaker side as freshmen and sophomores but blossomed their junior years. Jordy always had an outstanding breaking pitch, but needed that extra 4-8 MPH to keep high school hitters honest. He found that last year, and in the 5-6 outings I saw him throw, he was outstanding. In fact, as a high school pitcher, and not a thrower, I think Jordy is the best in the 12th region. He won't pop the radar gun like Witten or Perkins or Cooper, but he'll keep you off balance with a good tailing fastball and a true 12-6 breaking ball. There will be D-1 teams looking for a pitcher of his type. Craig Snipp who graduated from UK last year was very much like Jordy as a junior in high school. If he picks up a couple more MPH, he'll be dangerous.

Not that I would have been included in any of these records, but some guys I played with probably would have been.

Reading this stuff makes me wish we kept better records when I played...as I'm sure many people feel the same way.

And I think that's Rich Witten at Danville...

The way the Grimes kid threw for Danville last year, he may be right there with Witten. But there are a lot of good arms in the 12th from the Robertson kid at Mercer to Molen at Somerset. Throw in kids like Cooper from Boyle and Perkins at Pulaski who are more throwers than pitchers (much like I still feel Witten is at this point), and you have a variety of different types of pitchers.

They were a good team, no doubt. The 11 straight AB's with a hit is very plausible; even the 13 is believable. But 26? Amazing. It's like, instead of the major league record being 56 straight games, somebody reeling off a 112 game streak.

I think I played in the sectional with Noochie Varner in '93, then coached against him in the sectional in '99. Wow. And you're right, he could flat handle some leather...

This is one of those records that is almost too hard to believe... I mean, come on, 26 straight AB's w/ a hit? Had to be a generous scorer. Think about it....if that Bridwell kid was a .300 hitter thru 74 AB's, he would have ended up a .480 hitter after that streak. If he was already a .400 hitter thru those 74 AB's, which he would probably have to have been considering the difficulty of such a streak, he would have ended somewhere around .580. WOW. Of course, I'm basing this on a 100 AB season. Anyway, not to try to take away from the kid, but this may be the most impressive record in state history.

It's hard to blame two kids for the problems of Pulaski's football program. Everybody at PC is looking for scapegoats, and those two just happen to be the easiest to find.

Not all of Pulaski's athletic teams have taken a "nose dive".

Just imagine what Franklin is going to do to Pulaski this weekend.... Ouch!

Is Pulaski just going through some "lean" years with athletes, or what? I expected them to be better this year.

Brent Alexander (LHP Pulaski), who beat both Lexington Catholic and Beechwood this past season, has signed w/ Union College. Jordan Stumbo (SS, RHP Pulaski) has signed w/ Columbia State JC in Tennessee.

I got to watch Pulaski play both Beechwood and Catholic, and I say their lineups are fairly comparable. Catholic is quicker and plays good defense, but the biggest factor is them having their #2 pitcher available... I'll say LexCath 4-1.

He's the best hitter in the state this year, hands down. How fast is he? If he has above average speed, he will be a first or second rounder out of high school next year.

Witten is just a junior, so barring an injury, he's a hands down lock for Mr. Baseball next year. Honestly, he's a beatable pitcher, but just a ridiculously good hitter. Among high school hitters I've seen in the past 10-15 years, he's right there with Kearns, Wilkerson, and Hauswald, but he may be better than those, and that's scary. Adcock will probably get it this year, but what grade is the Wells kid from Owensboro?
