Pulaski County Football

The Maroons suffered another lopsided loss tonight to Corbin. I know that this is a young Maroon team but after a 2 win season last year, a likely winless season this year, Coach Hines comments saying that "Cole Draughn was 3 times the quarterback that Kaelin Ammons is" and this article in today's Commonwealth Journal http://www.somerset-kentucky.com/localsports/local_story_265094017.html?keyword=topstory in which he readily admits that the student body is making fun of the football team will he be there to Coach these youngsters as upperclassmen?

When Draughn played at PC, Hines was the cockiest coach I've ever seen. Draughn made him think he was a legendary coach. That being said, to Hines, Draughn was the man, because he made him look good. As we know, Draughn was no where near the QB that Ammons is.

Funny how Pulaski athletics seemed to take a nose dive after the notorious issue they dealt with a few years ago. :sssh:

I saw both play, and i think that Draughn may have had the upper hand on Ammons. When Draughn was QBing for Pulaski they had some very good teams. They had 4 losses in 2 years and all for losses were to Boyle County. Secondly, i think Hines is a good coach but no where near legendary.

It was actually 5 losses in two years. Three of them were to Boyle Co. one was close 32-27, the others were blow outs 63-14 and 68-14. They also lost to Breathitt Co. and to Waggener in the first round of the playoffs. The thing is rather than downing a qb that just spanked his team while saying he isn't half the player Draughn was he should be worried about trying to win A game this year. To paraphrase Rick Pitino "Cole Draughn isn't walking back through that door." With his slamming of Ammons seemingly to deflect criticism from the outcome of the game and readily admitting that his team is a laughingstock at his own school how long can he last?

Russell County also beat the Cole Draughn lead Maroons.

I think that was in 2002, I think the other guy was talking about the 2003 and 2004 seasons when they only lost 5 games.

After Franklin Co. thrashed Pulaski Co. Coach Hines kind of took a swipe at Ammons. Rather than talk about how he dismantled Pulaski he said that "We had Cole Draughn here a couple of years ago. He was twice the quarterback Ammons is. If he didn't get a vote for Mr. Football there's no way Ammons should win it." Just from reading a lot of his quotes in the local paper it seems as though he's living in the past and he's been talking about how the students at Pulaski has been taunting his players for their poor performance. He seems to be unraveling like Bill Murray's combover in Kingpin.

Franklin Co. beat PC a few weeks back.

Hate to see things going rough for Coach Hines — seems like he's going through a bit of a talent drought and hasn't been able to adjust.

Why the attack on a coach who is trying to do the best he can for a team that is struggling? As for his comments about Ammons, I have seen several QB's around the state and he is no better or no worse than, say, Cashen at Corbin or Jones at SW. They are not getting Mr. Football talk. All the hype around Ammons is just that. He is a good QB, but there are just as good if not better in the state right now. PC football seems to be going through the growing pains that any young team goes through. With the exception of Campbellsville ( no offense C'ville backers), they have played a very difficult non-district schedule and after watcing them play Corbin, I predict that they can win 3 district games and make the playoffs this year.

So OK for a Coach to trash another team's player, but he can't take it himself? Get real. Please tell me how him reminiscing about Cole Draughn is going to help this year's PC team.

The Maroons will be fine. Nothing a "feel-good" win won't take care of.

Will they ever get to feeling better then?

I don't see any "feel-good" wins or any other kind of wins on this years schedule. The remaining schedule looks like this:

Taylor Co. 4-2 beat Campbellsville 20-14, Campbellsville beat Pulaski 32-13

Boyle Co. 1-4 but played tough in losses to Mercer, Danville and Lafayette

Russell Co. 4-2 lost to Taylor 13-6.

Marion Co. 3-2 beat Campbellsville 28-13

Southwestern 2-3 close loss to Danville, beat Somerset and GRC

I don't see a win in there anywhere. Pulaski's losing streak will probably reach 14 games with a 2 year record of 2-18.

Will they ever get to feeling better then?

That's the Million$$$ question and actually pretty funny.
