Pulaski County Football

Featured Replies

I don't see any "feel-good" wins or any other kind of wins on this years schedule. The remaining schedule looks like this:

Taylor Co. 4-2 beat Campbellsville 20-14, Campbellsville beat Pulaski 32-13

Boyle Co. 1-4 but played tough in losses to Mercer, Danville and Lafayette

Russell Co. 4-2 lost to Taylor 13-6.

Marion Co. 3-2 beat Campbellsville 28-13

Southwestern 2-3 close loss to Danville, beat Somerset and GRC

I don't see a win in there anywhere. Pulaski's losing streak will probably reach 14 games with a 2 year record of 2-18.

Do you think they are talented enough right now to win any of those games that they have already played?

That's the Million$$$ question and actually pretty funny.

I was just teasing. I'm originally from Pulaski Co. I left there in 7th grade while I was at Southern middle. I know a little about the Maroons and their beloved Reggie Hanson.

They should have had enough talent to beat a 1-5 Campbellsville team that was just thrashed by Kentucky Country Day 53-28. Instead they were handled easily 32-13 by a bad 1A team.

I didn't ask if they "should" have enough talent. Of course a 3A school SHOULD have enough talent to beat a 1A school. I asked IF they were talented enough to beat those teams.

When Draughn played at PC, Hines was the cockiest coach I've ever seen. Draughn made him think he was a legendary coach. That being said, to Hines, Draughn was the man, because he made him look good. As we know, Draughn was no where near the QB that Ammons is.

Funny how Pulaski athletics seemed to take a nose dive after the notorious issue they dealt with a few years ago. :sssh:

Not all of Pulaski's athletic teams have taken a "nose dive".

Yes,I think there is enough talent there to beat Campbellsville. Their offensive scheme is awful, they've scored 53 points all year. 13 against the 1-5 Campbellsville team and 26 (14 after the game was long decided and Corbin had emptied their bench) against Corbin. They're predictable and their linemen have horrible technique--that's coaching. They are short on talent this year but there is enough there that 3-4 shouldn't have been out of the question.

Somerset beat a Cole Draughn led Pulaski squad back to back years, what people forget is that no one was going to win Mr. Football that year other than Brohm. The talent in that year was stacked with Cantwell now starting at Louisville, and Grutza starting qb at Cincy.

I haven't seen them play, so I can't say anything about technique or talent. I do know this, what ever problems that are hampering the Maroons at this time will get fixed. Maybe not this year, but they will get fixed.

As for their "offensive scheme", what would you like to see them in?

I would hope Hines gave this statement and is now regretful, I will give him the benefit of the doubt on that.

With their line play truthfully it might not matter. I do know that the Muse kid has got a lot of potential but they're still running the same offense that they did when Draughn was there. That was fine with him a quarterback, running quarterback draw after quarterback draw worked since he was basically a running back that could throw. Muse is quick and can move but he's not nearly as big as Draughn or even the Perkins kid they had last year. They line up in the shotgun and either throw or run a draw to the rb or qb. With a line that has a hard time opening up a hole that's very difficult to do with a slow developing play like a draw. They would be better off to put it up 30-40 times a game in a spread type offense--short passes and quick screens would help to hide so of the deficiency on the line.

Pulaski Co. moved the ball pretty well against Corbin's 1st team defense Friday night, probably better than Bell, Rockcastle or anyone else that Corbin has played. They had one back who busted two long TD runs when Corbin still had the starters in the game. I'm not certain why, except that I know that Corbin has had problems in the past with the spread offense and the tackling from the secondary was not very good. Corbin's offense had no problem at all with Pulaski's defense though.

It sounds as if an opinion was formed from one game. Don't forget that the other games that PC played this were against Playoff teams. I didn't see anyone else in this county able to beat Danville ( though SW did as good a job as anyone has this year against the Ads). Franklin is supposed to be bound for the state championship in 3A ( according to some on here) and E. Jessimine is a perennially good, tough game for anyone. So they layed an egg in the one game in their non district schedule they should have won. They turned around and play Corbin (not a shabby bunch either) better than the scoreboard showed. It sounds like they are getting things righted at the right time

They were down 49-12 and scored twice late against the Redhounds JV team. They're 10 games into a 14 game losing streak. Call a spade a spade, Pulaski is just brutal.

How much, if any, difference would the two Perkins brothers make on this team?

They are IMO what has made most of the problem. Coach Hines and crew are taking the high road and it will pay off. Will the new admin. let him stay the course? Who knows? I agree with Mr. Shue, there has been a talent drop off at Pulaski County. I don't agree with the coaches comments. sometimes the papers lead you with a question that maybe shouldn't have been asked or just a "no comment" answer should be given. The student body thing is nothing different than any other school has when a team is losing. Everybody loves a winner and everybody makes fun of a loser.
