The Great Game
I was just up at Purdue to watch the Lance Moore 18U tournament and he should have some fun playing at Purdue. Nice Ball Park!!!
hasbeen21
How did Purdue hear about Perkins?
hardball
John attended the Perfect Game showcase in Florida last fall, and many D-1 schools found out about him that way. I think they also may have seen him throw at a showcase at Louisville. Pulaski's coach sent some video to Purdue and Indiana, and Coach Sailors came down to watch their district tourney game. MrCoachKline
John was also seen playing in Michigan in a Senior League Regional championships last summer playing in an U18 division and was seen by several coaches there. He pitched 1 magnificent game, and another one really well, and got spoken with up there. I am not 100%, but fairly positive that is where Purdue saw him first play. hasbeen21
I spoke to John Perkins' Uncle and he said that Coach Grundy at Somerset had called Purdue and helped John get together with Purdue. Why would Coach Grundy help John and why send him to Purdue instead of one of the State universities? I would have loved to see John at UK or Eastern. hardball
I spoke to John Perkins' Uncle and he said that Coach Grundy at Somerset had called Purdue and helped John get together with Purdue. Why would Coach Grundy help John and why send him to Purdue instead of one of the State universities? I would have loved to see John at UK or Eastern. According to Coach McAninch at Pulaski, state schools didn't put forth much interest. He said that Henderson at UK had called about John a few times, but they were wanting him to go the junior college rout, which might have been the better fit for John. Western nor Eastern expressed much interest, which is confusing at best.
Jumper_Dad
I spoke to John Perkins' Uncle and he said that Coach Grundy at Somerset had called Purdue and helped John get together with Purdue. Why would Coach Grundy help John and why send him to Purdue instead of one of the State universities? I would have loved to see John at UK or Eastern. I would think Purdue would be a natural fit for him since he grew up just a few miles away. Why question why an opposing high school coach would help a kid out, isn't that what high school sports is all about? Congrats John and Good Luck
hasbeen21
I agree that coaches should help anyone that they can, and I am not saying Coach Grundy did anything wrong. I just thought with all of the hostility between the Perkins boys and the Somerset faithful that an SHS coach would be the last person to help John out. Good Luck to John it is a big opportunity for you.
inmyopinion
Actually, Coach Mac was personally involved in the communication with Purdue on behalf of John. Who would have figured that the SHS faithful would try to take credit for this one. Good Luck John!!
hasbeen21
If Coach Mac was the one who spoke to Purdue then that is great. I am just repeating what I heard from John's uncle. I do not know John personally, but we played them 2 times this year and his dad and uncle were in Richmond last week and told me that the SHS coach had told Purdue about him. I was not giving the SHS faithful any credit. I just wanted to know why John chose Purdue over one of the state schools.
