RebelBred
What are everyones thoughts about the 12th region in 2008? Who are the teams to watch for and who could come out as the new champ?
hardball
There may not be a new champ; Somerset returns almost their whole team. Besides them, Mercer, West Jessamine, Rockastle and Boyle probably will be on the short list.
Knuckle
Somerset and Mercer have to be the favorites. They both have a lot of talent returning. The next five or six teams are all about the same. But who can be for sure, the best team with the most talent doesn't always win in baseball.
STRIKE3
What about Lincoln County?
hardball
Lincoln returns almost their entire team. The problem at Lincoln is that some of those kids may opt out of baseball for basketball. They should be good, though.

They should be good, though. That's always a problem. They've been building a nice little program for the last couple years, though, so they could take a big step this season. Seems like Danville will fall off some, which would make the district a little more manageable.
coldweatherfan
Mercer will have the pitching to beat anybody. Unfortunately, they will probably have the fielding to lose to anybody. Their fielding was their achilles heal this year.

Their fielding was their achilles heal this year. It certainly hurt them versus Somerset in the region semifinals.

Knuckle
What does everyone think about East Jessamines chances and team this year? With the size school they are they should put a good team out there every year. They should be decent but are going to have to get past Mercer or West to get out of their Dist. hasbeen21
HOLD THE PRESSES!! I change my vote!! I attended the Correll Bowl this past Friday and was told that John Cole Somerset's best baseball player has committed to Vanderbilt to play Football and will not be playing baseball this season. If this is true Somerset falls from favorite to repeat to above average and middle of the pack. Let me know if anyone else has heard this or can confirm this. I am sure that Grundy will do a little begging on this one. I have confirmed that he has committed to Vandy, but what about the baseball season. Knuckle
I hope Cole plays, but it is a risk. You hate to see a kid get hurt playing a sport he is not going to college to play. Besides Vandy's coach might have some other things for him to work on this spring.
ljc76
Somerset will be solid. In the sectionals they played a tough Ryle team that just pounded, pounded and pounded the baseball and ran and ran. Look for Somerset to get it going from the start. They will be difficult for most 12th region teams to handle and in a close regional game, the memory of the 2007 tough losses to Ryle will help them get back to the sectionals. Don't be surprised to see them in Lexington come June!!

What about my Rockets they proved that they can beat Somerset by winning the District tournament. We will have Smith and Tanner Perkins back. I think Somerset has the best squad, but our guys are more than capable. I just heard last week that JD Bussell may be leaving us. I hope that this is not true.
