I would think that they have some questions at running back. As the season began last year their running game was almost non-existant, until Stewart Ijames was convienced not to quit football. I think he missed about 3 games last year. He is gone, so someone will have to step up in his place. Also their leading receiver and playmaker Neil Holland is gone as well. Historically the Aces haven't had a problem reloading at the WR position. As usual the Aces schedule is front loaded so it will likely be October before we really have any idea as to how good they will be within their district.

I'm sure multiple classes would give more a feeling of accomplishment, etc. but as far as that translating to an all star game I doubt it would have any effect. Lately Indiana has been beating us with guys who will be NBA lottery picks. Until or unless Kentucky has players of the same caliber, I don't see classes making much difference. I believe that Tennessee has more classes in football than does Kentucky, however, Kentucky has had the upper hand lately in that series. I still think it goes back to talent. And for whatever reason while the D1 basketball talent in Kentucky is down, in football it is likely at an all time high.

I think that population is part of it, but some of it is probably just luck. I'd say the chances of a Josh McRoberts, Greg Oden and Eric Gordon coming along in consecutive years from a state the size of Indiana is pretty rare. Those types of players are not a result of more competition due to increased classes. I think for whatever reason, KY is just having a dry spell of basketball talent. That should change somewhat next season as we ought to have at least 3 in the Rivals 150. During the years I researches, only Rajon Rondo was in the Rivals 150 from Kentucky at a high position (about #24) and I don't think he played since he left for Oak Hill.

Actually I've been a resident of Owensboro for almost my entire life. Furthermore I probably saw about half of the Red Devils games last season, even ventured over to the Reitz Bowl for that abysmal offensive performance against Mater Dei. I don't see how you can really compare a senior to a sophmore who only saw limited playing time, however, by the end of the season it was clear that Shemwell was the #2 RB for the Red Devils and although I have no inside information regarding the Owensboro program as an outsider I would suspect that Shemwell has put himself in good position to become the starting RB this season. No doubt that Nick Hall is a very talented football player and had an excellent season last year. He carried the ball 262 times for 1776 yards and 24 TD's. That should put him in pretty elite company across the state. However, if the Red Devils OL is as good as I've heard it should be, I believe that Shemwell should not have any trouble stepping in a being very successful this season. I'm sure he is improving as he gets older, obviously he impressed his coaches as the season went along last year considering that he did not receive any carries in the first 4 games, and appeared to rise to the #2 RB by the end of the season. While he only received 21 carriers for 147 yards and 3 TD's, those stats equate to a 7.0 yds per carry avg. (Hall was 6.7) He appears to have adquate speed to play RB. At least to me he appear to have sufficient speed on the basketball court, even starting as a Sophmore for a regional championship team. I guess we will just have to wait and see how well he does this season. I'll be at all of the Border Bowl games so I expect we will know more at that point if he indeed is the feature back for OHS this season.

Unless I'm wrong their entire offensive line will be returning starter who are seniors. I also expect Shemwell to step in for Hall at RB without missing a beat.

I wasn't really being sarcastic. There about 20 or 30 years of history to support my statement. Take Henderson a couple of years ago. They pretty much ran through Western KY, and were whipped thouroughly by St X. For a Western team to even play Trinity they first have to survive the west, then it would take an almost perfect game to beat most likely St. X or Male prior to even facing Trinity. That may be a defeatest additude but that's the reality of the situation

I would guess that he is reffering to 6A play within the west. We all know that nobody out here can beat Trinity.

He was aware that he had a son in high school and would be leaving former players behind when he accepted the job. If he hadn't already considered these issues, he never should have accepted the job in the first place.

Congrats to the kid, and it certainly sounds as if he may develope into a great player for UK, however, I'm not sure that I like the fact that so much pressure is put on rising sophmores in high school. Obviously recruiting is what it is these days, but these kids should get to be kids a little longer before they have to deal with the college recruiters. But I guess that ship has long since sailed.

How is it comical to expect a man to stand by his word. Do these head coaches just arbitrailly accept postions without thinking about the ramifications that the change will have on their personal and professional lives. I may just be a schlep, but I have enough commom sense to know that accepting another position in a different location / corporaiton within my choosen profession will have an impact on me and my family. I've changed jobs 2 twice with in 8 years so its not as if I havent' been in this situation.

I for one would hope so. Apparantly he made a commitment to Henderson Co. (Did he sign a contract). I think at some point you have to be accountable for your actions, or your word doesn't mean much. If your not sure about taking the job than don't accept. I know I couldn't quit my job and expect it to be waiting for me a couple of days later.
