Newman will visit Notre Dame again this weekend. The Irish need plenty of help on D, so he would be a nice pickup IMO. Things are looking pretty good for ND. Newman appears to be down to Notre Dame, Louisville, Kentucky, and Stanford.

Do you mean largest in the state, or largest period?

They may have been better that year, but they are still very solid this year. As far as making state, they win last night and very well could have again. That is just how it is in 9th district baseball. How many times is the 3rd region championship a rematch of the 9th district championship. Unfortunatley for the local teams often 3 and sometimes 4 of the best teams in the region are all in the same district.

I don't know, they did finally win the All A, and they do still have two D1 pitchers and a D1 power hitter. 1 to 9 they are pretty solid. Should have won last night, if not for some untimely errors that Apollo took advantage of.

Even more impressive is that they did it after losing their #1 pitcher (although an 8th grader) from last year to a district rival.

Its seeded but they had to draw for the #1 seed this year due to a 3 way tie in the standings for 1st between Apollo, Daviess Co. and Owensboro Catholic all of whom had 4-2 district records, and finished 1-1 head to head against each other.

Nathan Humprey pitched well for all 9 innings as Apollo earned a mild upset againts top ranked Owensboro Catholic. The Aces took the early lead in the bottom of the 1st as UL signee Stewart Ijames hit a blast over the flagpole in centerfield. The Aces expanded their lead in the 4th (I think) as Ijames got another hit and eventually scored. Apollo finally got things going in the 5th when they got a couple of runners on base. A ground ball to 3rd was thrown over the firstbasemans head and into the Catholic dugout, allowing one run to score. Skyler Shown then faked an attempt to steal home, causing a passed ball on which he scored to tie the game. UL signee Neil Holland pitched pretty well for 6 or 6 1/3 innings before being releived by UL signee Joe Devine. The score remainded tied at 2 until the top of the 9th. Tyler Edge reached base and was bunted to 2nd. He advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and advanced home on what was either a passed ball or wild pitch, I'm not really sure. Catholic then went down in order in the bottom of the 9th. This is the 2nd straight year in which an Owensboro Catholic team that was ranked one of the tops in the state failed to advance out of the 9th district tournament. I'd put the 9th district up against any district in the state, believing that they would hold their own. Apollo will play Owensboro tomarrow night for the 9th district title. The Red Devils advanced to the championship game by defeated #21 Daviess Co. on a steal of home in the 7th to give them a 2 -1 victory.

Rivals has just awarded Kyle Rudolph a 5-star ranking. Over the past 6 years just 4 tight ends have received such an honor. Two of which became 1st round NFL draft picks.

This is a public school, right? So much for seperation of church and state. They are so high and mighty about playing football on a Sunday, but I wonder if the schools that are governed by this associaiton are allowed to post the 10 commandments in the school or begin the day with prayer. For that mater can you still say the pledge of allegence. Given the climate that exist in most schools these days, I'd say the religious reasons given for not allowing Hoover to play in the event are a farce.

What movie?

This sounds like a great way to kick off the season. This fan will likely attend all four games. Catholic and Owensboro have opened the season against each other for many years. Does anybody know if they will still play? I'm surprised that the Indiana schools will not get an opportunity to host the following year. I wonder if it has to do with not having field turf. All of those schools but Reitz share Enlow Field as it is, less games on that grass might be a blessing. I would guess that all of those games will be competitive, with the exception of the Catholic / Reitz game. Evansville Reitz is usually ranked in the Indiana 5A top 10. Unless they lost a lot from last season, I don't see Catholic playing with them.

Apollo may have some trouble for a while. Yesterday morning they found out that they were losing their 3-spot hitter and starting SS due to a broken vertabre for the next 6 weeks.

I have no idea who Joey Downs is, but I'm guessing that he has nothing to do with Purdue.

He was just at Notre Dame last week and will return tomarrow for the Blue / Gold game. Many Irish insiders feel like he will commit soon. Would be a good pickup for Weis IMO.

He was raised in Battletown, graduated from Meade Co. in 1977.

Daviess Co. has a middle school with this same situation. College View Middle sends half its students to Daviess Co. while the other half go to Apollo. We have 2 public high schools and 3 public middle schools. When CVMS was first announced many thought that a 3rd HS would be forthcoming. There have also been rumors that Daviess Co. Public Schools and Owensboro City Schools might merge at some point. BTW, Is Longbranch to be an new HS? If so where will it be located?

I agree two very close teams, I was at all of those games except the regional final. Apollo got up on OHS by about 24 in the 1st half of their first game, but OHS came all the way back to within 1 and made a game of it. They played nip and tuck the rest of the season. As far as Duvall, his absence hurt, but I think others steped up and really helped to make up for his loss. Carlos Alas became a legit scoring threat, and Justin Little had a pretty good season. Not to mention Jeff Evans really played well as a senior considering that he had very little varsity experience prior to this year. Duvall's absence hurt most from the standpoint of depth. The worst thing about the situation is that Duvall sat out of the basketball season because Purdue asked him to. A lot of Eagles fans blame Joe Tiller on costing them a chance to go back to Rupp.

I didn't know much about Wayne Breeden prior to this year, but he got the best of Tony Hopper this season, and IMO Hopper had a little more talent. He's opened my eyes, considering that I think very highly of Tony Hopper.

Keep telling yourself that. Weis will rebuild the Irish, I have no doubts about that. Sounds like sour grapes that the kid picked ND over tO$U.

Duh. That was stupid. Thanks. Weis hasn't used many redshirts so far. Hopefully they will start to get enough depth so that they can begin to do so. Notre Dame works 5th year seniors different than most schools. In most cases I belive that you have to receive permission from the univesity to return for a 5th year and that you also have to have completed your degree and be enrolled in grad school.

Notre Dame insiders have felt that Rudolph would be Irish for awhile now. It is nice to get someone from so close to Columbus. He will have plenty of competion for playing time. John Carlson (a 5th year senior and returning starter) has serious NFL potential. He will likely also be behind a pair of 4 star TEs already on campus. Konrad Reuland (Soph) and Mike Ragone (Fresh). Both were rated the #3 TE by Rivals in their respective classes.

From what I saw when his game was on T.V., I'm don't think his tenure at IU will be multi-year.

(twice) 9 games against top 25 teams with one who is just outside #26 Madisonville North Hopkins The 9th district has got to be one of the toughest in the state with 3 teams ranked in the top 20 and the other received votes.
