Border Bowl games

There will be 4 teams (Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, Apollo and Daviess Co) playing 4 Southern Indiana teams (Evansville area) Two games each night 08/24 and 08/25 at the same site in Owensboro. Next year they rotate to Indiana to play. Great way to start the season in Western Kentucky.

What are the matchups? Where are the games this year?

I need to correct you on one thing, the site will NOT rotate to Indiana in 2008. It will stay in Owensboro.

2007 Match-ups:

Friday @ KWC (Steele Stadium)

Apollo Vs. Harrison

Catholic vs. Rietz

Saturday @ OHS (Rash Stadium)

This sounds like a great way to kick off the season. This fan will likely attend all four games. Catholic and Owensboro have opened the season against each other for many years. Does anybody know if they will still play? I'm surprised that the Indiana schools will not get an opportunity to host the following year. I wonder if it has to do with not having field turf. All of those schools but Reitz share Enlow Field as it is, less games on that grass might be a blessing.

I would guess that all of those games will be competitive, with the exception of the Catholic / Reitz game. Evansville Reitz is usually ranked in the Indiana 5A top 10. Unless they lost a lot from last season, I don't see Catholic playing with them.

I would assume they will still play each other. The past couple of years OHS has been opening with Mater Dei and Catholic with South Spencer.

I would also guess the field turf is the reason why they aren't playing this in Evansville. The fields in Evansville are awlful and like you said are shared by muliple schools. Harrison, Memorial, and Bosse all play on Enlow field and Reitz and Mater Dei at the bowl.

It should be a great weekend of football to open the season. I have been wishing that Henderson and Reitz would get together. I think our series with North has run it's course. I really liked the Castle series but it is over.

I would say that this year it will probably be a split with OHS and Apollo coming away with wins.

Enlow Field ... I saw a quagmire there a long time ago.

This event sounds like a really good two days of football.

The reason that the Evansville schools will not host the 2008 games is because the concept was devised by the Owensboro schools and is sponsored by Independence Bank in Owensboro. All of the Evansville schools will be paid for the participation both years.
