CovCath 9 Conner 6
Extremely windy and very bright conditions at Hebron for the game. Josh Bleser started for the Colonels. A lefty, #9, my apologies for not having his name, started for the Cougers. Bleser was not at his best, and left the game down 5 or 6 to 1 after pitching the bottom of the third. Bleser gave up a homer to Wigger ( a little wind-aided and to the shorter right field fence but a homer none the less.) The "lefty" pitched well as the Colonels could only scatter hits over his five innings. The Cougar defense was also sharp behind him. Junior, Matt Curtin relieved Bleser and was sharp on the mound for two innings of work. Colonels finally muster some offense with a Bleser homer (to right-center) and some key hitting from Larkin, Schreiver, Popham, Reis, and Blazejewski. Wigger relieves #9 and pitches the rest of the ballgame for Conner. Junior, Matt Reis takes over the pitching duties for the Colonels and works the last two innings. Top of the 7th, Andrew Blazejewski and Josh Bleser go back-to-back dingers for the 9-6 final. CovCath remains perfect on the season, 8-0. Plays at Holy Cross on Thursday.

Enquirer NKY AllStars
Ryan Ernst and the "Enquirer" have come a long way in the coverage of northern Kentucky high school sports. They, IMO, have surpassed the "Post". I asked Mr. Ernst how he decided to vote for someone for the all-state team (girls) because she was not from this area. Did he take other writers' opinions into consideration, did he talk to coaches? Answer: He was covering the northern Kentucky teams in the state wrestling tourney and two of the state's best ladies' teams were playing close by...so he went. I know he takes his voting seriously. I am a Blue Colonel mom, but not a basketball mom, so I like the flavor of this team. From games I saw this season, without a doubt, Brett White of Campbell County should be on this team.

Cov Cath 13 Badin 12
Stacy started and was staked to a 10 run lead. He had given up a couple of solid shots but he picked a runner off first, and the defense behind him was for the most part good. Then momentum took a big turn...hits, walks, defensive lapses (I'm being kind) and Badin has six or eight runs. Enter Matt Reis, usually, the very fine left fielder of the Colonels. He inherits two baserunners. A few hits later, we have a 12-10 game in favor of Badin. Farrell moves from catcher to pitcher and keeps the Rams at bay. Glad Chris was given the day off on Monday from his catching duties as he has caught every inning for the Colonels. Dead solid behind the plate. From the mound, Farrell had good velocity and kept the ball down. Picks up the W. Andrew Blazejewski was terrific once again at the plate. Four for four and CLUTCH !!!! Colonels move to 7-0 on the season. Next opponent...Conner Cougars, Wed. 4:30 at Conner Senior High School.

CovCath 6 Dixie 0
I forgot to add that Stephens' ERA through three wins is 0.00 !!!!!!

CovCath 6 Dixie 0
CovCath wins the first of three games between the Red and Blue Colonels this week. Doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Dixie. Mike Stephens improves to 3-0 for the season. Chris Otis took the loss for Dixie. Andrew Blazejewski and AJ Schreiver had key hits for CCH. Dixie plays Ludlow at home today in a district game. CovCath will match up with Badin at 4:30 at CCH.

Cov Cath 3 Ryle 2
Any win over Ryle is a good win. They are a very tough "out" in baseball. Tough conditions as far as temperature and wind gusts today. Kudos to the players and fans that were there all day. Not enough hot chocolate to go around, Mrs. Gruber and her lovely assistant's, Michelle and Jenna, were hopping in the concession area. Jeff Hatfield, the Ryle pitcher, for the most part, kept the Colonels off the base path for four innings. Things came together for CCH in the bottom of the 5th, for the boys in blue to take the lead. Josh Bleser, junior starter for CCH got the win. Always good to start the season 1-0. I did overhear a couple of Ryle players say that Bleser had never started a game of this importance, so he might be a little nervous. Guys...he started the REGIONAL FINAL last year. Way to get off to a good start, Josh. One constant in this young season for the Colonels has been Chris Farrell's play behind the plate. Very, very good.

Cov Cath Knochleman Tour 4/7-4/8
At Covington Catholic: 1:00 St. Henry vs. Covington Catholic 3:00 (ish) Boone County vs. Ryle No definitive word on whether there will be a tripleheader again today with St. Henry and Ryle completing the round robin format.

St Henry 12 Boone County 3
St. Henry held a 12-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. Gillcrist gave way to James on the mound for the Crusaders. Boone managed a run in the inning so they played the complete 7 inning affair. Final 12-3 SHDHS

CovCath 12 NCC 3 (2 innings...) Need Confirmation
I was there, 12-3, called after two innings. Some fans out in the cold rain felt as if we had played four innings. Statman, Not too many extra base hits, I can only think of two for sure. (I have that over 40 memory thing though) Rounding the bases was not an easy task. NCC pitcher, Jared Harris, came off the mound awkwardly and tweaked his ankle but continued to pitch. This and the precipitation created a few problems, as he walked several. Tough day to pitch, I'm sure he'll have better stuff next time out. After the game, he did say his ankle was OK!! CovCath did struggle with mental and physical errors again.

CovCath 5 Beechwood 1
Actually it was a #7, Nathan Hansel, senior.

CovCath 5 Beechwood 1
On the subject of game admission: They have been charging to attend baseball games in the region for the last several years. St. Henry, during the regular season, might be the only exception. CCH, during the school construction, did not charge, because the mess the campus was in, and the tough access to the field. If they didn't use UMPIRES, they might not have an admission fee...since we do, and they have to be paid, we must charge.
-
CovCath 5 Beechwood 1
We have only seen Houlehan at this point...I for one, can't make an informed comment on the best 'closer'.
-
CovCath 5 Beechwood 1
CCH has played two games so far. NCC on tap for tomorrow, with the Knochelman Tourney, Fri, Sat, and Sun.

CCH vs. Beechwood Predictions
I would think that if Curley and others have been gone while school has NOT been on break and they return only in time for the game, they would be not be allowed to participate due to not having been in school for the day. That may be the reason he/others don't play. The decision may not rest with the coach.

It has been cancelled as well.

Conner 5 Holy Cross 3
According to the "Enquirer" this morning, Conner turned a triple play. Batter lined out to SS or 2nd, he stepped on 2nd then threw to 1st to complete the triple play.
