Dixie takes both games of the doubleheader. Down 6-0 in the first game, Dixie scored 7 runs in one inning and it stayed that way the rest of the way. Down 5-2 in the last inning, Dixie scored 4 runs to win 6-5. A great day for Red Colonel fans.

Nice job by the Dixie Colonels.

I was able to see the first game. Strong went the whole way for Dixie. Stephens went the distance for CovCath. CovCath's big first inning in the first game was highlighted by a grand slam HR that landed on the roof of the school. Stephens seemed to keep Dixie off balance except for their big inning (4th or 5th) when they wore out the CF and RF chasing balls into the gap. In that inning Dixie's first seven batters reached base and all seven of them scored.

 

Wish I could have stayed for the second game. Sounds like it was another good one.

 

It was nice to see Hat Trick at the game also.

I thought Dixie was in such a rebulding stage. Sounds like the Red Colonels are in the mix as well as a about 5 other teams in the 9th. Coaching does matter, and Max is a good one.

While I can't and won't take anything away from Dixie as they came back fighting to win the Double Header after being down in each game, I thought that CovCath looked tired, and completely bored with the game, meaning no life or much chatter at all. Dixie on the other hand seemed to be playing like their whole season was hanging on these two games and other than some poor outfield play, beat CovCath at the plate, and in the field. Congratulations, and good luck in the rest of the season.....

 

Will Dixie have a scoreboard at their new baseball complex? Trying to keep track of the count, outs, score and innings, while also trying to enjoy oneself while talking to some of the others at the game, while not impossible, does take some of the fun as a fan out of the game. Tell your announcer, that he did a fine job, but in the future could he remember to announce the score and ining at the end of each teams at bat.

 

BTW, what was up with the home plate umpire in the bottom of the 7th inning of the second game, when he seemed to get quite upset with someone seating in the Dixie side of the stands?

Who pitched for the Dixie in the second game? This is definetly a confidence booster for the red colonels.

Good question. Baseball is tricky when you start ranking teams. What's the criteria? There are too many variables to base is simply off of records. To me, baseball is the MOST subjective. If I'm ranking, I base it on who is most likely to win the region tourney. That can be completely different than a head-to-head matchup basis.

 

With that, as I've said all along:

 

Beechwood

Ryle

CCH

 

...with very little separation between 1 and 3.

 

Throw Conner in at #4 (partly a homer pick but also projecting out how I see them doing).

I think it is too close to call. Cov Cath hit a short slump, Ryle hit a short weekend slump, Conner came out strong but may be considered in a slump loosing to Lloyd and a much improved Boone team. The only contender that has not hit a slump so far is Beechwood but they are just now starting to play some stronger competition. I don't think any rankings have changed this early in the season.
