CovCath 9 Conner 6

Featured Replies

Extremely windy and very bright conditions at Hebron for the game.

Josh Bleser started for the Colonels. A lefty, #9, my apologies for not having his name, started for the Cougers. Bleser was not at his best, and left the game down 5 or 6 to 1 after pitching the bottom of the third. Bleser gave up a homer to Wigger ( a little wind-aided and to the shorter right field fence but a homer none the less.) The "lefty" pitched well as the Colonels could only scatter hits over his five innings. The Cougar defense was also sharp behind him.

Junior, Matt Curtin relieved Bleser and was sharp on the mound for two innings of work.

Colonels finally muster some offense with a Bleser homer (to right-center) and some key hitting from Larkin, Schreiver, Popham, Reis, and Blazejewski.

Wigger relieves #9 and pitches the rest of the ballgame for Conner.

Junior, Matt Reis takes over the pitching duties for the Colonels and works the last two innings.

Top of the 7th, Andrew Blazejewski and Josh Bleser go back-to-back dingers for the 9-6 final.

CovCath remains perfect on the season, 8-0. Plays at Holy Cross on Thursday.

Bleser's arm has been bothering him so he is definitely not at his best right now.

Congrats on the win, guys. It's nice to see the bats coming around to make for a great offensive game.

Missed the game but heard all about it last night.

Anyone know how the freshman Maile played??

Maile did a nice job behind the plate. He really didnt do anything that stood out though.

Farrell should still be the starting C, just getting some rest after a good pitching debut againist Badin.

Did you get to see the other freshman catcher Isler the other day vs. Dixie?? If so who do you think is better? Ive seen them play JV all this year and Maile is a better hitter but it seems that Isler has the better arm, and other than that they seem to be pretty even.

Great future for both FROSH.

However, Farrell is the best catcher at CCH right now.

I'd say he's the best thrower in NKY. I have not seen all of the catchers but if there is one that's better, he's top-notch.

Have to agree with you cshs81, but I have a different reason for it.... He is so very good behind the plate and moves so smoothly. He also makes it easy for the home plate umpire to see the strike zone (a much more important job of a good catcher than most think about or understand) and when the ball gets into the dirt he just doesn't put his glove out to try and stop it, but moves his body to block the ball. Not sure if the CovCath Coach calls the pitches, but if he doesn't, Farrell does a great job of having his picher both move the ball around the plate, and understands how to read a batter at the plate......All and all a great college prospect, and should easily sign with a good baseball school.....

Farrell calls the pitches & he does have a pretty good arm.

Is he pitching at all this year?

Maile started the second game of the Dixie double header Saturday behind the plate, to give Farrell a game off. Farrell did come in to pitch I think in the seventh inning, and looked more like a thrower, than a pitcher Saturday. He in my opinion, didn't bring as much heat to the plate as I have seen him do prior, but looked tired. Playing everyday behind the plate and then when you do have a day off from wearing the tools, then having to pitch, takes a lot out of you both physically and mentally.
