Right now he plays mostly in the paint. For OTE to come calling he’s going to have to either grow another 4-5 inches or really develop his game out of the paint. He should follow the EJ Walker plan. He was really similar at the same point but Coach Walker knew he had to develop his skills away from the basket and now you have a guy that can play the 3 in P4 basketball. One thing I do agree with is the kid is a dawg and very talented. Can’t wait to watch him develop over the next 4 years.

Make that 3 stud pass catchers. Fryman, Pabst and Aerosmith and then don’t forget about Sowder at TE. Definitely would get the TE more involved in the offense when he is on the field.

I love multi sport athletes but reality is most kids who want to play a college sport usually focus on their main sport by their sophomore season. I can give you at least 4-5 examples of that from this years team. Footwork and lateral movement in basketball is great but kids can work on that while they spend 4 months in the weight room gaining much needed muscle, strength and weight. Many of the kids work with Franks, Novell’s, etc….for speed and agility. I love basketball and if the young man wants to play basketball I say great but if they really want to focus on a sport they can play in college like football they need to be in the weight room for the next 4 months getting bigger and stronger. Track would be the one exception because the speed and explosive training you get in track is great for football, especially for the skill guys. The Fryman kid is excluded, he is a unicorn. He can walk out on any field or court and be the best player in almost any sport in any season.

CJ should list the coaches who voted (not who they voted for) so we can see which coaches did not participate. Coaches are on these kids all year long about working to get better and supporting your team and teammates but when it is their turn to step up and advocate for their players they choose to not vote. I guess they have more important things to do than support their kids who went out there every Friday night and laid it on the line. I would guess that if they listed the coaches who voted then all the coaches would vote and we would have a better representation of the players who deserve to be recognized.

Only 4 young men from NKY on this list. Who chooses these awards? A bunch of talking head reporters who probably never played a game of football in their lives.

Kid is a beast probably best inside linebacker in the state. Not a huge Ryle fan but I love Savage.

I got no problem with O’Hara as 1st team but Clay Hayden deserved to be recognized as an all state football player and to not even be recognized as HM what a bunch of bull crap. I saw where 2 players from Martin County was on the 2nd team defense. You gotta be kidding me. No disrespect to Martin County or their players but I think Beechwood put a running clock on them in the first half and they have one kid recognized as HM. That just ain’t right. And I am not a Cov Cath fan but for no players from Cov Cath to be recognized as even HM and they beat the Boyle County team that many people were saying was the best KY team in the last 25 years.

I have definitely enjoyed it while it has lasted and I don’t expect it to end anytime soon. And I do agree with The Guru that Mayfield also has that mindset and I expect them to be back at the top sooner than later. But let’s be honest LCA and OC has been there but can’t get it done. They hope they can win a championship. Belfry might change the picture but I will have to see it before I believe it.

I value championships over stats. Hayden statistically will go down as one of the top 20 high school QBs to ever play the position in Kentucky and oh yeah he has 3 state championship rings. Hayden is my All State QB.

The Coppage kid is a great athlete and has a chance to be a really good QB but he needs a year in the weight room. I saw where he was playing basketball, no disrespect to the basketball program but if him and Kingston want to get ready for football next season then they need to get off the basketball court and into the weight room. Look what happened to Maddox Kelly after he gave up basketball he signed a D1 scholarship offer. I am sure there will be some transfers that should help with OL and DL as well as add depth. RB is also a question mark. The Ritter kid is solid but he’s another one who needs to be in the weight room. The receiving core won’t skip a beat with Fryman, Pabst and Aerosmith. I guess you could put Fryman or Pabst or maybe even both in the backfield but I think they are better weapons at WR if they have a QB who can get them the ball. I would prefer they leave Sowder at TE and get him more involved in the offense. Sowder is definitely a potential D1 football player if he continues to grow. Overall I think Beechwood will be right back in the mix next season for #19. The difference between Beechwood and everyone else in 2A is everyone else hopes to win a championship but Beechwood expects to win a championship.

Bull 44 you are exactly correct. Once Beechwood got Fryman and Erdman back full strength they were a different team. And lots of people forget that their leading tackler and one of their better defenders Aylor was out for almost the entire playoffs. As you said that Oline and Chase Flaherty really took over in the 2nd half of the season and the playoffs and absolutely dominated both Lexington Christian and Owensboro Catholic. The big Howard kid that transferred from Moeller was a difference maker. He was as good as any o lineman in NKY this season.

Regardless it’s really good competitive football and hopefully provides a free education. Good luck Dylan!

Surprised that with all the FBS programs offering that he would choose a FCS program like Delaware. I am sure he has his reasons and I wish the young man nothing but success and good luck. Congrats Dylan and Go Blue Hens!

I love Coach Hergott! That guy is the absolute best. He’s the kind of guy you want in your fox hole. Hope he continues to coach at Beechwood into the foreseeable future.

I remember watching Doug Pelphrey’s daughter play a few summers ago and she looked really good. I think she is playing for Dixie now. How is she doing so far this season? What grade is she in?

If you look closer at Hayden’s numbers you will see that he did not play any varsity reps as a freshman, his sophomore year he was injured in a pre season scrimmage against Cooper and missed half the season. During his junior and senior seasons he rarely played the majority of the 2nd half because Beechwood frequently put a running clock on their opponents by the end of the first half. And finally during his senior season Beechwood ran the ball a lot more than previous years because they had a great o line and Chase Flaherty at RB who ran for around 1500 yards. Most of the other QBs being considered have started since their freshman year. If Haden played 4 complete seasons and Beechwood would have thrown the ball more this past season his career numbers would have been as good or better than any of the other candidates. And the most important stat is he led Beechwood to 2 state championships and played on the team that won another one. 3 state championship rings in four season is not bad. Clay Hayden from Beechwood is my Mr. Football.

I agree Brown can definitely play D1 football. Especially if you are talking FCS.

Never understood why the NKY all star game was not right after the season. Why wait till the spring? Kids are involved in other sports and many of the kids are not in football shape which could lead to injuries.

Just heard from a friend a college coach has thrown his hat in the ring. Coached at several colleges over the past 4 years as a DB coach. Played at SK several years back when they were actually relevant in NKY football. He is exactly what they need a young guy who can bring some energy and a different system. If you want the same results keep doing the same thing and hire the assistant. If you want different results you have to shake things up. My guess is they offer the job to one of the assistants and 4-5 years from now they are going to be right back where they are today

Chief Smoke you forgot a few. Clay Hayden from Beechwood and the Elam kid from Corbin probably will not win it but they definitely belongs on any final list.

Big Moe also has Christian Harris, one of the top defensive lineman in the state of Ohio returning along with an all GCL linebacker and 2 tight ends who are both being heavily recruited by power 5 programs. I am very confident the Coach B will have Big Moe right back in the thick of a D1 state championship again next season.
