Is Cincinnati High School Football the real king in the Greater Cincinnati area? Do they play a better brand of football across the river? How would Beechwood do if they played comparable teams over in the Cincinnati area?

Yes. Ohio football is better overall. But I think Beechwood, Highlands, & Cov Cath would play with most similar sized SW Ohio teams. I’d love to see Beechwood play Ironton, Hamilton Badin, etc. Highlands, Cov Cath, or Cooper play Anderson, LaSalle, Winton Woods, etc. Ryle play Lakota West, Princeton, or Withrow. I’m not sure who I would suggest to take on the GCL South teams. I know Highlands and Cov Cath have played them in the past but it’s not been pretty. (And it’s not supposed to have been IMO.)

Change RPI and it can happen.  No incentive for majority of KY teams to do that where it doesn't impact them in the playoffs.

Population is king in high school football.  SW Ohio (Hamilton, Butler, Warren and Clermont Counties) have a population of appx. 1.7 million.  That is literally the population pools that schools like X, Moeller and Elder pull from.  Lakota West and Princeton, etc. a little less so but its still apples and oranges compared to NKY.  By comparison, NKY (Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties) have a combined population of appx. 400,000.  So while there have been NKY teams competitive when they go across the river and of course years where they win games, the demographics alone suggest that it would be awful hard for any of the NKY teams to win conferences or championships across the river on a consistent basis.  Its just a different animal when it comes to numbers.    

Remember in the ‘90’s, Bernie Barre entertained a top rated CAPE team and shocked a lot of people across the Ohio Ocean when the Tigers thumped them pretty handily.  Memory fails me but I don’t remember if that was in the Scott Tackett or Brad Wulfeck RB days?

Memory tells me CAPE had a jet back that maybe went to Ohio State (?) that the Tigers pretty much held in check…..maybe one long TD.  How’s my memory?

As far as this thread is concerned.  We should be able to get a really good idea by looking at enrollment and calpreps.  Once we know what division Beechwood would fall into in Ohio all we have to do is compare the calpreps ratings of the top teams in that class with Beechwood and we would have a good idea.

David Poole, Toby Gilbert, Vinnie Clark.  I think I have those names right, they were loaded.  And right after we stomped CAPE, CAPE put one on Ironton.

It was Scott Tackett! Brandon Berger and Brad Wulfeck were studs on the 1991 and 1992 State Title teams.

Beechwood looks like would be either DIV 3 or 4 in Ohio. 263-264 is cutoff between the two classes from what I saw. Not guaranteed that that's exactly right since it said adjusted enrollment.

I am thinking D3 sounds too big for Beechwood in Ohio, I was thinking D4 or D5.
