Protection for the kicking game, specific to FG’s not XP’s, isn’t easy when the ball was placed on the hash both times and the kicker had to line up over the tackle to take the kick. Shortens the distance from their outside blocker by about 3 yards and the rest is history. A lot to cleanup on special teams without a doubt. Part of that is on the players and execution, part of that is on coaching IMO. They ran one play before the would-be game winning FG.. and ran to the right and pushed the ball to the hash. Get it in the center of the field and the game may have not needed 2 OT‘s.

Does anyone have any updates on how camp is going? Standouts, injuries, surprises, things to look forward to? Only a week until the scrimmage against Male. Football is back!

As I was told, yes. I have also heard a rumor that the ‘Bird’ logo will change throughout the year to reflect the different versions that have been wore through the years. That would be awesome, if true. Media day included a “hype video” & photoshoot of the players as well. Smoke machine and lights were some describing terms. Players seemed pumped about it, looking forward to seeing those when they’re released. And for what it’s worth, kids notice those things these days.. Marketing your team/school is more important than ever via social media, etc.

Kiyan has always been a RB & CB if I remember correctly. However, as mentioned, he is a reclass and we all know boys of that age bodies change drastically. I saw him at some basketball games (spectating) last year and he has added some good weight as he was always a skinny, super-fast kid. Interested to see if he kept that speed and if so, will be a big piece to their puzzle.

I find this to be quite the contrary. If you told me Sullivan was leaving the Cooper program, given the circumstances, with all of the baggage that came with it and including his relationship with Holthaus.. And they ended up with Holthaus - a proven winner in the building & program for the men’s - and coach Stef Pro for the womens I would’ve said praise Lord hallelujah. If high school head coaching is a requirement for success then we have different standards. She has been around elite programs and walks into the building with a state contender. These hires have the ability to make Borchers & Wilson look like Kings - whether you like it or not.

I heard that a few new, incoming freshman transfers showed up this week to practices.. Two from Campbell Co & one or two from Bishop Brossart & Holy Cross. Not sure who, talent level, etc in reference to previously named individuals in the thread.

I was shocked when I heard the name so I’m hoping someone else heard this as well to verify.. But my source said that John Brannen applied for the job and then pulled himself from candidacy at some point during the process. Not sure the timeline on when he applied/dropped out.

Who is the next heir to the QB throne at Ryle once this year concludes? Any outstanding underclassman or will it be this Wynn Jr?

What if I told you that he was their 2nd choice until the other candidate pulled his name out of the running?

I was told some form of a “district HR personnel” was also in attendance at said meeting with the Super. Maybe that qualifies? Or maybe that’s just another witness to the meeting that took place for legality reasons?

I was told that he asked about an appeal and.. well, let’s just say the Super said I’m Superman and it’s not gonna matter.

I’s needed dotted and T’s need crossed but the framework is done. St Henry is getting one of the best and I’m sure he’s ready to start the next chapter of his coaching career *wink wink*

I have a close family member who has been around high-level D1 NCAAF & NFL as well as high school sports from a medical personnel position. Teams do not do any of these drills anymore due to the banning but most didn’t before then either. The myth that kids needs to do these drills at full speed, full contact to “get used to hitting” is a complete farce and there are other ways of doing that in a more health-centered fashion. Gone are the “old days” where getting your head knocked off built better football players. Don’t blame me, that’s just what it is. On a local level, programs in the NKY area I’m familiar with don’t do these drills and the only omission to that is a 1/2 or maybe 3/4 speed at most in the Oklahoma drill. These programs (Ryle & Highlands) prove that the “more contact the better” doesn’t equate to winning. Health & longevity throughout the offseason and season is what will get you far.

First school that comes to mind for me is Lloyd. One of the only logical, possible openings for next year as EJ will be moving to South Carolina and his dad would follow him? There will be openings for teaching jobs I presume around the county and it only takes one to have a stable job (and income) and allow him to coach within the county.

That’s a tall order with the talent ahead of them. Can anyone list any freshman from recent memory that contributed on Varsity? Colt Kremer started Fresh/JV and dressed on Fridays last year as a freshman but didn’t see the field much. He’ll be a big part of the offense next year as a sophomore in what I see as a swiss-army knife RB/WR role.

If the Freshman Bluebirds can close this tournament out as Champions, they will have gone undefeated in Freshman football & basketball this year with the exception of Ohio opponents (Moeller football, 2 OH basketball teams). Great class ahead for Highlands Beechwood took the Bluebirds to the wire in the regular season.. Should make for a great game! Best of luck to both teams.

If my memory serves me correctly, Evan Link was not the QB for Cov Cath at the time of their first matchup. Could look like a very different game on both sides of the ball given the length since they last played. Excited for this one, should be a good one!

The 8th Grade Championship rematch.. The Birds take the win largely in part to their defense who only gave up one TD (the other was an incredible KR by CC before half) and had 2 INT’s. Notables were Highlands QB Riesenbeck who was accurate on his throws and had a few 3rd down scrambles to keep the chains going, CC RB who was a shifty runner and I believe the player who returned the kickoff for a TD, and Birds RB Kremer who has been their X-Factor all year long. Highlands vs Cov Cath for the championship will be a great one!
