After reading the last couple pages of posts, I would conclude that it is long past time to play the game. In the interest of contributing to the rambling and mundane nature of the recent posts, I will again state that Simon Kenton cannot beat Trinity. Trinity can only beat themselves. Hopefully, with so many outstanding seniors playing their last game, the Rocks will be motivated. There is no need for a letdown just because Trinity beat the second best team in the Commonwealth last week. It is one last chance to make a definitive statement. Don't hold anything back.

I'm with you on Bell County and Breathitt County but still lean toward Beechwood over Hazard. As for the others, I'll still take Trinity, NCC, and Highlands.

No one is "slamming" Finch. Any "slamming" is at the choice of a nonresident as the Commonwealth's Mr. Football. Anyone would have to admit that it is not a positive outcome for football in the Bluegrass State. Possibly, Indiana partisans will dig at us (and rightfully so) for choosing one of theirs to be our honoree. No offense to Finch but, in light of the facts, it was not a wise choice.

I root for all private schools (Trinity and NCC). I will also root for Fort Thomas and Beechwood. All four of these schools have great tradition.

I believe it is legitimate to point out that Finch is not even a resident of the Commonwealth. Also, is this strictly an offensive award? Personally, based on his high school career, his residence status (he is a Kentucky resident), and his potential as recognized by national recruiters and rating services, I believe Jordan Whiting of perennial state champion, Louisville Trinity, was the better choice. Of course, he had at least two strikes against him- he is committed to The Ohio State University (thus bypassing the lesser lights located in the Commonwealth) and he is a defensive player (linebacker). He will be playing for another state championship ring on Saturday while Finch will attend the game as a spectator. I would consider that somewhat significant. No sour grapes here- just some relevant facts. Since the selection process is loaded for offensive players, maybe it is time to have a offensive and a defensive player of the year.

After Elliott County and East Carter it is a steep and drastic drop to #3. Any of five or six teams could claim #3. None are a threat to win the region.

If you boys had Kurt Warner playing quarterback for you Saturday, your chances would be a little better but not by much. The real state championship game was played last Friday. SK cannot beat Trinity. Trinity can only beat themselves. Hopefully, Trinity will make a statement in this game.

Having one rated in the top twelve in his class is quite an honor. I would think you are very proud since it has been a material number of years since that has happened to you boys.

How can over 37% of the voters pick Simon Kenton? Are there that many SK parents on BGP? I voted for Trinity just as I did in the T vs X poll. I would suspect that Trinity will win by a materially sizeable margin.

Might need to check your math. Try 6th or 7th. I have heard that he may replace one of the "upperclassmen" before long.

Elliott County is a nice little mountain team. However, I don't see them seriously competing with Scott County, a few more in Kentucky, or the better teams at Myrtle Beach. They may do well against the locals like Socastee, NMB, and MB but those teams are usually just for local flavor to bring out the crowds.

Final. Great win for Rocks.

Ashland should have impressed observers by their performance against Lewis County. They played well particularly when you consider that Bonner was out and Scaggs had only limited practice time with the team. It was good to see DeLaney play well. Whetsel is a major addition. Although they are no threat to Elliott County or possibly East Carter, Ashland, along with Bath Counrty, is probably at or near the head of the second tier of the region. Fleming County should pose as no problem.

I didn't attend either school (my school was Ashland Holy Family) but I'll sure be rooting hard for Trinity and their super linebacker, Jordan Whiting.

Rose Hill started three freshmen, one sophomore, and one senior. They will be fine with some experience. Uncle Jed is certainly correct that Mike Terry was the best player on the floor in the first game. It is nice to hear ZoneBuster23, a true Ashland partisan, call Terry "the real deal". The last time I heard that term in regard to a Rose Hiller was when it was said about Mayo. Of course, Terry is not remotely on the level of the now millionaire Mayo but, then, no one around here ever was at that level. All in all, if anyone from the 64th District attends the state tournament, it will certainly be as a spectator.

How did it go at Lexington Catholic? It wouldn't be reasonable to expect a win since it was so close after the Highlands game the night before. Ashland probably didn't have Skaggs or Bonner.

No program in the Commonwealth, other than Trinity and St. Xavier, has remotely the tradition for success that Highlands has earned through the years. Ashland has done much better than expected this year, They have overachieved. However, to expect them to win against Highlands particularly away from Putnam Stadium, is a pipe dream. Nonetheless, Ashland fans really do see the world of high school sports through maroon glasses so, as they would say, play the game and see what happens. For me, I'm hoping for a Class 6A title match between T and X. That is big time football.

Wonderful. I guess those of us in the northeastern corner of the Commonwealth will get the UK-Georgia game. I would much prefer T and X. Watching UK-Georgia would be similar to suffering from constipation (actually a good analogy since UK is hoping for an invitation to another toilet bowl).

Of course, the relevant part of your post is "in a losing effort". Euton and Jackson, I'm sure contributed to the victory. As for who is "better", time will tell. Personally, I'll take Eutoin and Jackson and, from what I understand, Gillispie and the other coaches would do the same. Nonetheless, we wish your personal favorites well.

I certainly concur with the posts of Royal Uncle and Jay Bilas. I think it can be stated unequivocably that whatever "give and take" there may have been between Rose Hillers and Russellites, there was never any "animousity or bickering" in regard to Fortman or Okora. Both are talented young ladies both on and off the basketbal court and I believe I can state that everyone associated with Rose Hill had and has great respect for them as well as their teammates.

Britt Faulkner has been a much needed breath of fresh air at Rose Hill. She has excelled in the classroom as well as in athletics. She will be missed. I wish her well at U of L and thereafter. She will be successful in whatever pursuit she chooses. I am proud of her.
