Yes, just came in the mail with Boyle County’s 4A trophy from last year. Not a shot at Boyle County, but more of an anyone can be beat fact. Should CAL win 3A? Yes they should. Will they? That remains to be seen. If CAL plays an off game, getting beat by Murray, Lex Cath, Bell Co., etc. is completely possible.

Prep school seems to be the route of many nowadays, but doesn’t make sense to leave for Ballard now if that’s ultimately the plan. Hopefully those advising him have his best interests at heart & not $$$ signs.

Believe it or not, this was rumored to be happening back in the spring. Surprised it took this long though.

Because the bye week took a huge toll on Trinity ?‍♂️. I have a dog in the fight and it doesn’t even make sense to me. Do I think CAL could beat Trinity….under the right scenario I do. However, if it’s a 10 games series between the two, I think Trinity wins 7 or 8 out of the 10.

Mercer County travels to CAL this Friday for a 7:30 kickoff between what used to be old class 3A, district 4 rivals. Gone are the days of 2019 & 2020. These two programs enter this contest heading in exact opposite directions since those days. For the Titans(1-9), their lone win was a 3 TD victory over Casey County, whereas the Centurions (10-0) enter with 8 running clock victories this year, including their last 4 games. It’s not a question of who wins, but rather at what point in the game will the clock run?

I thought about that as well. I think the well is drying up a bit at Male & with what appears to be a 2nd straight 2nd round playoff loss & 3rd straight blowout loss to Manual on the horizon, he just might ready to make that jump. A lot will probably depend on if he has the time in the KTRS to get the pension or where he would possibly teach. If I were St X, I’d consider a call to Matt Jones at KCD as well.

Great point but where CAL has the advantage is they actually have a feeder school. Kids like Kellan Hall, Jackson Burke, etc. actually played for CAL in middle school.

CAL just renovated their weight room, plus is in the process of getting ready to build a new indoor facility with football field, locker room, etc. He holds a few titles at CAL which come with additional pay. He’s very content at CAL but as many have alluded….it never hurts to ask. Just be ready to ask someone else to the dance quickly if you get rejected ?

I think this will simply come down to which BG team shows up. I've seen both teams in person this year and personally think BG is the better team. For me, I think Franklin County has outplayed their expectations. They found ways to beat Bullitt East and LCA and get themselves to 9-0. After seeing them early in the preseason, I wouldn't have thought that, but that is a testament to the hard work of the kids and coaching staff. With that being said, I'm going to take BG by 2 TDs in this one in hopes that the BG team I saw against CAL is the same team that shows up Friday. I will say that regardless of outcome Friday, both of these teams have state titles in their future. Maybe not necessarily this year, although not out of the question, but in the near future as they both have strong underclassmen and have had strong MS teams the last few years.

I'd say you're right about that. He's a 3 sport athlete, but I believe he's about to cut that down to 2 sports so he can focus on football and baseball a bit more. UT-Martin seems to favor the CAL players as Trey Cotton, leading receiver from last year, plays safety for them this year and they have offered four other current CAL players. Strange how they have, but in state FCS programs like Murray St & EKU haven't.

The 9-0 Centurions, fresh off of a bye week, travel to Fern Creek to take on the 4-5 Tigers for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday. This will be the 3rd matchup between the two schools with CAL holding a 2-0 record; both win via a running clock the last 2 years. For the visiting CAL Centurions, as long as they handle business Friday night, they are assured of a #1 RPI seeding in the Class 3A playoffs. Seven of their nine wins this year have come via a running clock. They are led offensively by SO. QB Jackson Burke and JR. WR Ja'Hyde Brown. Burke, who just picked up his 1st D1 offer from UT-Martin last week, is one of the states more efficient passers (123/156 - 78.8% completion, 2003 passing yards, 29 TDs / 1 INT). His top target is the leading statistical receiver in the state of KY, Ja'Hyde Brown (70 REC, 1050 YDS & 17 TDs). Defensively, CAL is led in tackles by JR. LB Micah Newsome (84 total tackles with 11 TFLs) & SR. Jackson Settle (67 total tackles with 13 TFLs). For the Tigers, who are coming into this contest off of a 49-0 victory over Southern, they are led offensively by JR. QB Javis Wallace (53/98, 730 passing yards, 10 TDs / 1 INT). Outside of the passing game, Fern Creek shares the carries out of the backfield with four different RBs, all within 15 total carries of each other for the season. Defensively, which is typically the main strength for Fern Creek, they are led by a quartet of seniors (Cage Fannin - 52 total tackles, James White - 44 total tackles and Jaydyn Jackson & John Smith, each with 43 tackles). I believe Fern Creek will come to play, as this is their senior night, plus CAL is coming off of a bye week, which often times can lead to an early game, sluggish performance, but in the end, CAL will be too much for Fern Creek.

With Fort Knox withdrawing, that should give Mayfield a 1st round bye, correct?

As long as they can play ahead on the scoreboard and stay ahead of the sticks, they'll be a tough out. If they get behind or get off schedule, it's hard to win against the Boyle County, Highlands, etc. with that one-dimensional offense.

It's been since 2003 since Lonnie was a head coach in Jefferson County. He's been to Cincinnati, Oldham County, Jeffersonville, Carroll County and everywhere in between, but just made the jump back to Jefferson County at Central just recently.
