There’s a wide range of what the various administrators allow. Some watch over sections like a hawk and often stifle creativity . . . and attendance. Some let almost everything go (stuff like last night, chanting profanity after a bad call, etc).

Disappointing to hear about a kid's career ending on a technical foul, especially if it wasn't an obvious no-brainer. Would love to see officials exercise some restraint in those circumstances . . . the good ones do. The other factor is the impact on the game, score, momentum, etc. Wish they would stop the game, issue warnings, etc. more than hand out reactionary technicals.

Sounds like technical foul calls were crucial in both the Henry County - Carroll County and the South Oldham - North Oldham game. Tough to see that during post season play. 8th Region refs flexing tonight! We’re there any T’s in the Woodford County - Spencer County game?

I've scanned this entire thread and haven't seen much discussion on two issues related to the shot clock: referees and number of games. We can all debate the quality of refereeing in KHSAA, but a shot clock ads yet another thing for a stretched officiating pool to monitor during a game. Assuming we aren't going to add instant replay along with a shot clock, a 3-man referee crew is going to be able to determine whether a shot was released before the expiration of the shot clock multiple times per game, determine whether a ball hit the rim & reset the clock, etc. I'm not confident they will do that effectively while still maintaining a decent control on the other officiating duties during the course of play. Additionally, Kentucky schools play up to 30 regular season games per year, many on weeknights. Finding volunteers to staff score book, clock, shot clock, announcer, gate, stats, video, concession stand, etc. is not easy with that many games in addition to JV and freshmen games. Are we going to have a shot clock for those games as well or only varsity? Many neighboring states do not play as many regular season games (Indiana is 22-max) and not as many weeknight games. Friday nights are typically easier to staff than Tuesday.

Waggener at Trinity in the 27th district tops my list for tonight. Its possible the defending state champion gets knocked out in its first game.

Would you say Hawley’s absence had any impact on the game tonight? I know he hasn’t been scoring a lot, but he’s one of the biggest bodies for Collins and could have helped a bit against Oldham’s size. At a minimum he could have taken a foul or two from McKnight and Vail and kept them in the game longer.

Rested him for a district game? Did this game have no impact on seeding?

Wow! Cardsrule1972 and the Spencer County fans have gotten their money’s worth with 5 overtime’s in their last 2 games (against Anderson County and Shelby County)!

Tonight's Collins-Oldham County game will solidify the rankings going into districts. Both teams should win out after tonight's game, so the winner should finish the season #1, loser #2. South Oldham and Spencer County should win out from here, so I think the regular season ends with South Oldham in #3 and Spencer in #4. Simon Kenton could pick up a loss as its season wraps up; North Oldham could pick up a couple. Looking at the Spencer County and North Oldham comparison, their common opponent record (with no Powell for North) is about even. Both lost to Oldham County by similar amounts. Both beat Anderson County (North Oldham by 42; Spencer by 3 in 2OT). Spencer beat Woodford County; North Oldham lost to Woodford (not sure if Penn played in either of those games). Spencer lost to South Oldham; North beat South Oldham. Simon Kenton does not play Spencer County or North Oldham this year.
