  1. Some baseball "analysts" believe Halladay had a factor going for him that NO ONE would ever wish to be in play at his age. Probably some truth to it. I think both Schilling and Halladay feel like Hall-of-Famers to me, and while Halladay had that unfortunate event that may or may not have played a factor, Schilling is a legendary horse's backside and we know that plays a factor with many of the voters.
  2. Wow!! I admittedly know nothing about Harrison Co. (sorry, at least I will own it), but at first blush, both this result AND the margin catch my attention.
  3. Tony Pike is really good on the radio, I love the show he does at noon on ESPN radio, but I don't think he would be a candidate any time soon to be the play-by-play guy.
  4. I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb and go with Mayfield and UHA in the finals -- an all WKY finals!!
  5. I'm probably dating myself, but there definitely used to be a rule that you couldn't play a football game before the first day of class; does that rule still exist in Kentucky?
  6. Wow, that seems like quite a reach with their resume' on January 22nd. Forget the loss by 25 to CovCath, that is excusable, but then mix in a 1 point win over a very "meh" P.L. Dunbar team, a loss to Beechwood (they are decent, not great), a home loss to Newport (who, again, is good, but not great), and then a loss to an okay Lafayette team. I'm not sure the Knights are Top 5 in the 11th Region alone, so placement in anyone's Top 20 would seem like you're either basing it on tradition, or basing it on the come that they'll keep improving and make some noise in the post-season. They have certainly been better since the calendar turned, but against lesser competition, and still, don't feel like a Top 20-ish team to me. At the end of the day, we know who is coming out of the 11th, so ranking them or not is simply a discussion point.
  7. Zac is friends with Sean McVay, the Bengals will be fine. Heck, I saw them hug once on the sideline...we are good!!
  8. What grade are you asking about? In 7th they are VERY GOOD!!! In 8th they are 3rd best team in the CovCath Catholic School league behind St. Henry and St. Paul, and are bottom half in the Middle School league. I don't much about how their 6th grade team does.
  9. I believe Bill was his head coach at Nebraska when Zac quarterbacked there. Sounds like he is a lock to be the O-line coach, a position (unlike head coach) he is very highly regarded in.
  10. Did that dude who tumbled after the game survive? Hope so, cuz was SUPER hype.
  11. Solid win for Brian and the boys!!! Sounds like a great one.
  12. I believe this was at CovCath, but I could be wrong. Score is per Twitter. Shocking result, disappointing loss for the Colonels.
  13. Last score I saw had Cru up comfortably, what happened? Congrats to the Cross.
  14. He has had a million calls that I vividly remember and that are great, but the one I always think about that seems to stand out was Dunn's walk-off grand slam against Bob Wickman and the Indians in 2006 (I think).
  15. Tom who? Do you mean Thom Brennaman? If so, he doesn't want it. As I said in the other thread, doing baseball games isn't what he loves.
  16. Wow, sounds like a fantastic game. I was wrong about that one, so I'm not sure who wins the whole thing now. Was really hoping Coach Arthur would get a title.
  17. Piecoro saying he doesn't want the job is akin to me saying I don't want to be CEO of Apple. We had about the same chance in getting those positions.
  18. If you close your eyes you can actually hear the theme music from "Benny Hill" playing in the background.
  19. For sure he has the right to, as I have the right to have zero interest in going at the price of $3,500, $40, or $4. Everything and everyone is worth what someone else will pay for it...if people will fill the gym (as PP92 predicts) at $40 per, have at it. I can assure you I wouldn't watch them play for free if they were in my backyard. No interest.
  20. ESPN's "Outside the Lines" filed this really interesting read on the number of insurance carriers that are now refusing to insure football players at every age from Head Injuries. From the article: From the NFL to rec leagues, football is facing a stark, new threat: an evaporating insurance market that is fundamentally altering the economics of the sport, squeezing and even killing off programs faced with higher costs and a scarcity of available coverage, an Outside the Lines investigation has found. The NFL no longer has general liability insurance covering head trauma, according to multiple sources; just one carrier is willing to provide workers' compensation coverage for NFL teams. Before concussion litigation roiled the NFL beginning in 2011, at least a dozen carriers occupied the insurance market for pro football, according to industry experts. 21. I'm sure the folks at the Reds and WLW that will be involved in the decision will have Dan at the top of the list. Thom and Jim Day have both jumped out early and said it won't be them, so you can put those to bed. I don't get the impression that Thom actually enjoys baseball games, he seems far more passionate and truly engaged during basketball and football broadcasts. Jim Day is not high on my list, so I'm thrilled that it won't be him. Something about him, corny maybe, really gets under my skin. Thrilled that Brantley is staying on as Color Analyst, he is really good. Congrats to Marty on a career that all of us on this site would have killed for. Ride off into that sunset, Famer.
