The student is ineligible for one year or until they are eligible for a waiver or on appeal. Waivers are granted for: Bonafide change in residence by the entire family, Divorce, Change in Custody, Parent Death, Boarding School, Ending of school program, or Anti-Bullying. They will be automatically denied eligibility if they do not meet one of these waivers. After that, they can request an appeal to a hearing officer under their special circumstances on why they should be eligible.

This is a myth when it comes to transferring. There is no appealing a transfer leaving your school. The receiving school asks for a waiver, which, in this case, was a "bona fide change of residence." This was denied because it was not a true change of residence. There is a section at the end for additional comments, but it was never up to Mason County whether he would have been eligible or not.

Have there been any updates on this? Jason Frakes reported there is no plan. But last year, the KHSAA said there would be statewide re-alignment finalized this year and take effect next year (2025-26).

I have heard of Harry Lewis, a former Royal who played on the 2000 team, which was 9-3. He was a Mr. Football finalist. In his career, he had 37 rushing and 22 receiving touchdowns. Played D1 for a bit. Currently an assistant coach at Bryan Station.

He did a great job at Mason County.
