Could we see Carter County instead of East and West Carter in the Future?

Featured Replies

I was listening to the The New Carter County Superintendent on the East/Belfry game and the announcers were Asking the super about consolidation.  It is something they are looking into.  Probably would move fast and end up being  about 3-4-5 years down the road when when the school is built if they vote to do  that.

If that were that to happen what Football class would they be in?

  • I may be in the minority here but I think generally speaking consolidation is a good thing for schools.  You should be able to have one great school for everyone and save money in the process.  I real

My guess would be 5A.

Would be a probably 5A a fairly large one or a small 6A. East has around 850 and West probably between 500-550.

I thought it was just a by a few boys that landed them in 3A and not knowing the enrollment levels currently or what is coming up in the elementary and middle schools for both they could be a big 4A but either way you’re going to either face JC or travel for 5A.

Olive Hill & Grayson are pretty far apart from one another right? if I remember right, their hwy exits are pretty distant.

Between 10 & 11 miles.

neither school is that big, East has around 700

That would be the worst thing for them to do. Either have a big 4A school that would run into JC or a average 5A school that would have to travel for district games.

Carter considering consolidated high school | The Daily Independent

So Carter County's BOE has hired RossTarrant Architects to conduct a site survey for a potential site for a consolidated high school. The article states "Though the firm is coming to work on the project, this does not mean the consolidation is confirmed."

I'm assuming the site survey is part of a feasibility study to figure out whether or not the project would be financially doable.

I have to believe there are cost savings in facilities from consolidation. Is there cost savings in staff and administration?

East has close to 800, 786 to be exact and West Carter has around 560, 558 to be exact.

That would be an enrollment total of 1,344 if you took both of their enrollments right now.

The school board this past week took the first steps towards a possible one high school. The board amended their district facilities plan and hired a firm to do site studies on a area of land over by the county vocational school off of interstate 64 at the 161 mile marker (first Olive Hill exit).
