Open Job: Mason County

Featured Replies

With Joe Wynn leaving Mason for Simon, this job is open.  Who should be on the short list?

In most cycles it’s a good job, but tough sledding the next two years with their district and region due to the bump in 4A.

Having to go through the shark infested waters of CovCath & Highlands in your district, and then knowing Ashland and Johnson Central are your crossover? Doesn’t make this job very appealing as it would otherwise be, especially for any current head coaches.

You can say all that again, CJ.

Possibility of 3A in the next realignment should bring out quality guys.

Not unless your situation in terms of the gauntlet you have to go through to make it past the first round is much worse, and I don’t know many, if any that are.

Mason County and all that it is, was done zero favors for the next 24 months of football.

Mason County High School in Maysville, KY is searching for a new head football coach.  Our former head coach, Joe Wynn, recently accepted the head coaching position at Simon Kenton High School. For the 2025-26 seasons, we will be classified as a 4A football school, assigned to District 5, and aligned with Covington Catholic, Harrison County & Highlands.  Historically we have been classified as a 3A school, which has been reassigned to 4A a few times during realignment. We anticipate dropping to 3A at the conclusion of the 2026 season. With our anticipated drop, our football numbers continue to rise with 10% of our boy population K-12 playing football. Our principal is a former college football player and All-American at Georgetown College.  Our assistant principal is a longtime assistant football coach of eighteen years.  You will be supported and winning is important to us. How our young men perform inside the walls of our high school and in our community is more important.  We are looking for our next head coach to continue developing strong relationships with our community and our young men, building upon what Coach Wynn has in place. A flexible teaching schedule will be considered.

From a facilities perspective, you would have access to a stand-alone grass practice field, equipped with lights and a scoreboard.  We also have a turf game field and we have upgraded our lighting and audio system this past year. Our new middle school has its football practice field separate from the high school and the game field. Our youth league and middle school utilize both the grass practice field and the game field for practices and games. We have two separate locker rooms, one for our varsity and one for freshmen. Our football facility has recently received a facelift.  We have a new HVAC system, new weight room equipment, and plans to upgrade and make additions in the future. We have a track below the football facility and a huge hill behind the game field for hill sprints, plyometrics, etc. Our new hire will have full authority on all staffing hires and fires from grades 4-12.  We currently offer four periods of in-school weight lifting classes and we currently have the full HUDL package and football fundraising is established and well built. Attached is our certified pay scale for the 24-25 calendar year.  We anticipate a 4% raise for the next school year.

These are not small things when looking to build a program. Good for Mason County. And great for the coach that comes in.

There is some public support for Coach Bradley Boone to step into this role.

From the looks of it, appears to be the current defensive coordinator, young guy, will be overseeing the offseason program as they search for HC.

I have heard of Harry Lewis, a former Royal who played on the 2000 team, which was 9-3. He was a Mr. Football finalist. In his career, he had 37 rushing and 22 receiving touchdowns.  Played D1 for a bit.  Currently an assistant coach at Bryan Station.

Harry Lewis would be a great hire. Coach loves Mason County football. It has been great having him the last four years and I believe he has what it takes to develop and grow the Royal program.

Coach Bradley Boone would be a great fit for this role someone who as been around the program through the ups and downs. Coach Boone possesses a deep understanding of football and demonstrates an outstanding ability to motivate and inspire athletes. Coach Boone exhibits exceptional leadership and communication skills, fostering strong relationships with players, staff, and parents.

He should use you as a reference
