From afar it seems like NCCHS doesn’t have the depth they usually have. Is that off base?

Solid win for the Tigers at Mustang Madness.

Impressive win for UHA considering they had just won about 18 hours earlier at Madisonville, got up and drove 3.5 hours to beat a solid Southwestern team. They play Murray in Mustang Madness tomorrow. The big game is on Tuesday vs. Christian County.

Colonels take care of business ahead of their key district game at University Heights on Tuesday night.

I watched some highlights of this one this morning. It looks like the Blazers are starting to play better half-court defense as well as play better in their half court offense. That's a dangerous scenario for the Second Region. I didn't think they were capable of doing that. And Tandy with another 40 point game. It's pretty amazing what he has done in their "big" games this year. I'd be interested to see his stats against the teams that are considered a top 3 or 4 team in their region.

You are correct. Stovall's state title team learned that pressing isn't always the best thing to do. In fact, when we went to Rupp that year we didn't press much at all in the toughest games. I don't understand why he feels like this team has to press? That's what I worry about for Tuesday night against UHA. If we press those guys they will shred us. Of course, against Madisonville last night, it looks like they won another half court game. I'll be honest with you, I didn't think UHA was capable of winning those types of games against good teams. They've done it a couple of times in the last few weeks.

Fun environment at Lyle Dunbar Gym tonight. Tilghman with the impressive win. County isn’t defending great right now. I think Coach Stovall needs to dial back the press. Ware had 32.

Per Kentucky New Era reports Tandy had 40 and UHA led pretty much the entire way. Impressive win at Madisonville. Can’t wait until Tuesday night.

I just don't know if we can replicate what we did at Tilghman. This is a good measuring stick game. I think we probably fall short tonight. But we need to play well. We need something positive heading into Tuesday night. I worry that we will be on a bad streak (of course we will beat Ft. Campbell Saturday night) and UHA will be on a 5 game winning streak.

I think the issue with the 2nd region and specifically the 8th district is that the # of transfers to create "super teams" has dropped dramatically. There is a reason for that but it's not worth getting into here. But the fact is, Hopkinsville took a senior or in most years, seniors from UHA or Christian County for about 4 straight years significantly bolstering their roster. This year there was no movement other than Jordan Johnson From UHA to Christian County and that was a very unique circumstance. Would UHA like to have him, I'm sure they would. Is he making a big difference at County? Not really. My point is this. The three teams in Christian County are fairly balanced this year. That's why you don't have a better "top" team in region 2 right now. I'll say this though. I worry about UHA. From what I've heard, they are playing much better defense. They stuck with a really good Bryan Station team with perhaps their two best players ailing. Tandy was sick at the Lexington tourney and played very limited minutes the last two games and played through sickness against Bryan Station and McGowan was still suffering from his injury which made him miss significant minutes. So... Watch the UHA vs. Madisonville game tonight. If they win that, it could be UHA's region to win. And when you have a top guy like Tandy you can beat anybody. As Tilghman found out. UHA gave them a heck of a game. Last thing about Christian County. My team... I think a big part of our early success was teams not having a good scouting report on Ware. Now that teams know his deal, we are struggling a lot more. The fact is, we need Trice to be better than he ever was before his injury. We need him to be "that guy" . I just don't know if it's in his dna. Great kid and athlete, just not sure how great of a basketball player he is...

Bad night for the Colonels at the opening of Mustang Madness. District 8 appears to be up for grabs. Tuesday night at UHA will be massive.

Great comments... One point of contention. No way that Tefrell is the best big man in the region. Madisonville has two guys better... He's never done anything in a game to prove a statement like that. Heck, he's never done anything close to that. He reminds me of Azibuike when he was at UK. What did Tubby say about him. On Cager... You've seen my comments before. I've heard the recent rumors of his Mid-January return. Until something comes from somebody other than the Hoptown Staff I won't believe it. If what they said was true he would have been back 45 days ago. No offense, it's just comical at this point... Great discussion.

Coach Haworth is a terrific coach. But like all of us, he's not perfect. But I think we've found this year that he had never really dealt with adversity like this. Most years he ends up with guys showing up the first day of school that he didn't have last year. This year, he's faced the opposite. With Govan and Cager he had discipline issues and with Johnson he had the issue of his transfer and now his injury. I think the mistake he made was putting so much time into trying to get Cager and Govan back and being SO public about it instead of hunkering down and coaching his team. Some will say they don't have talent without Johnson and Cager. That isn't true. (Of Course they would be better with them) They've got a very deep roster. I think if he had focused more on coaching the team he had instead of spending so much time trying to get guys back they would be in a much better spot. Look at it this way. How do the kids who put in the work and followed the rules feel about a situation where a coach is being so public about trying to get guys back who didn't? I'm not casting stones at the kids or even Tim. It's a tough situation. But I think if he had it to do all over again he wouldn't have been so public. I can say this, in our community folks are scratching their heads in how he has handled it. Even the biggest Hoptown fans. Admittedly, I'm a big Christian County fan but I root for all of the District 8 teams once we are out.

Nice win by Madisonville against Hoptown. Hopkinsville had Nicholas and Johnson tonight... Reports from some at the game say that a couple of Hoptown players walked off the court straight to the locker room with about a minute to play. I’ll try to find out more and will post here if I do.

Sorry to start an entirely new thread, but I looked on Lexington Catholic's website and didn't see anything about a stream for the tournament. I wanted to catch the region 2 teams playing in the tournament. Thanks in advance for any insight.

We will find out how good the Christian County Colonels are this week. I'm excited and am trying to get over to see them in MO this week. Hopefully we have a good showing. I'm a bit disappointed that we played in the Webster event as the competition was not very good. I'm not sure what we got out of that event. With University Heights, their second best player was out for the Paducah tourney. Mississippi State Baseball commit, Drew McGowan. With UHA's lack of depth, missing him was a killer. He is their second best shooter (Tandy is their best) and their best rebounder. The Blazers and Colonels play a key district game on January 9th. It's almost a must win for the Colonels as Hoptown "could" have Johnson and Nicholas back for their first matchup. In terms of what is going on with Shorty Cager. Some folks very close to the Hoptown program do not anticipate getting him back this season. Quite a sad story. With Jalen Johnson, there is a worry that he won't be 100% at any point this season.
