  1. I think after last night Christian County is the clear #1 team. They beat the pre-season region 1 favorite soundly on the road and just beat madisonville on the road last night. Easily. I just think Hoptown has too much turmoil right now to put them in the top 3. Lots of rumors flying about the severity of Johnson's injury. To me, he's more important for Hoptown because of his leadership and "calming" effect. Even if they were to get cager back this week I think Johnson's issues are even more important.
  2. Who do you think is the best team? I certainly don't think it's hoptown if Johnson is going to be battling a knee injury all year. I think there is a "chance" uha might be the best but I think it's county right now based on their body of work. However, don't discount graves. They stuck with one of the best teams in tennessee in Blackman. They are a GREAT program and team. Average something like 25 wins a year the last 5 seasons with a state title 3 years ago.
  3. The test he took the "next day" was administered by a chiropractor in an uncontrolled environment. I'll leave it at that.
  4. If you live in hoptown like I do, you've learned to believe NOTHING unless it comes from Central office on this deal.
  5. Great stuff. Thanks. Where are these rumors about Cager being back by the end the week coming from? Everything that is going around hoptown is that it's a tough rode to hoe for him to get back? Madisonville is the interesting team. Blow out Davies and then struggle a bit with a very average Muhlenberg team... I'd put Madisonville at #2 right now and have hoptown and UHA tied for 3rd. IF we get Trice back I think County can be the clear cut #1 team in region 2. Reports are that he "could" be back by the end of this month. Thanks again for the write up
  6. A couple of things. Not sure how Tilghman can be considered #1 losing to Christian County as bad as they did with us still missing two starters. I'd put graves first. I went to their game with UHA and the 2nd and 3rd best players for UHA had abysmal nights. Hollowell and McGowan played terribly yet they still almost won. I'd put Graves at the top. They're just solid. Then i'd put Tilghman. Graves led against a top level team in Tennessee for a half and held tough against them. I think it's a school from murfreesboro who is 9-0 to start the year and went 25-6 last year. That's my two cents. I REALLY appreciate these. Looking forward to the region 2 take.
  7. What kind of team does desales have? Were they missing football players?
  8. Danville was the better team this year. And it wasn't close. It seems that when Danville has a team good enough to make it to state/play mayfield they have a "higher ceiling" than mayfield. Not sure why that is, perhaps it's because danville has a tougher road to state and their weaker teams get knocked out sooner? I know a lot of those 11 losses came in semi-final games, didn't they?
  9. Up significantly in lexington. Why? Because it's a town more folks want to travel to and more hotel rooms for folks to stay in who want to watch all of the games. Also a better facility for the games. What a terrific weekend.
  10. 7 Owensboro Catholic 5 Adair County 3 Calloway County 2 Barrenn County 1 Lyon County TB Adair County
  11. Thanks for the info. This injury to Johnson must be really bad if he wasn't able to play in the second half on such a big stage. He played the entire game against Caldwell county on Friday night. HOpefully they get it figured out so they have a chance. If they don't have him or Cager then I think that puts them in 3rd in the district.
  12. I know they lost Harmon and the kid who went to Austin Peay. But are they really that bad? They got beat by a bad Davies County team... I"m expecting Hopkinsville to throttle them today.
  13. I was amazed at the space Tilghman gave ware in the first half. His scouting report is that his range is somewhere around the hash. To not have a guy in his face as soon as he crossed the line is inexcusable. In reality, if Tilghman plays smart defense in the first half it's probably a different game. Teams that know Ware and Christian County will make sure to limit him. Even last year when we had far more talent teams started to figure out that if ware couldn't score, we couldn't score. UHA did it in their win over us and hoptown did it when they destroyed us in district. I worry a LOT about our scoring, even if we get trice back. I just didn't see great effort on defense by Tilghman. We got a LOT of easy looks on the drive and I don't think we are great "driving" team. I was pleasantly surprised at the intensity we showed on defense. But against the guards in our district I question whether or not we can sustain that. Krump/Tandy and Johnson/whoever hoptown puts out there will cut through a press like butter.
  14. Did Lee County employ Bama's 3 man defensive strategy in this one? After all, they did outscore Minnesota once they went to 3 men.
  15. Really enjoyed watching coach stovall do his thing last night. Ware was a beast early. But good lord, did Tilghman not have a scouting report? They continually just left him open on the outside. I was happy with how we played but if Paducah Tilghman is the region 1 favorite, yeesh... I don't know what to expect. I have to think that Graves, mcCracken, Marhsall, Calloway or SOMEBODY is better than what we saw from PT last night. They were slow on defense and really didn't have any offense. I'm hoping we are "just that good though". Great start for the colonels.
  16. And if you're assuming that Trice plays, I don't see how he's not one of the top players in the region. And I'd also include McGowan on that list as well. He's far more athletic than he gets credit for. He or trice would be the best player in the 5th district.
  17. Jalen Johnson DID play in a game for Aspire. He played in their scrimmage vs. the former UofL players. The KHSAA rules make no distinction between scrimmages and regular games. Basically, If there are refs and/or a score board it's a game. he also participated in organized practices which is a no-no. County is the most interesting team. That's who I support. A. Ware is a senior, not a junior. B. It's up in the air whether or not Trice will play. He broke his ankle in football and is still in a boot. He may get pressure from Purdue to not play basketball. He won't play until January IF he plays. C. I'm not convinced Jaquan can be anything more than a bulldog on defense. He's not a natural point guard and not a natural scorer. That's what I worry about the most. After D Ware- where do we get our scoring? As far as University Heights... They are the team to watch. They haven't had an "experienced" team since Shouse's second year when they probably should have made the regional final but were robbed against Henderson County. They start a senior and 3 juniors as well as the best freshman in the region, KJ Crump. Crump actually started at the end of last season at guard. The big man transfer from Clarksville is the "banger" they've lacked. The key will be defense and keeping KYKY (not keke) tandy out of foul trouble. If I was ranking the 8th district (assuming johnson plays but not cager) I'd say it's as even as it's been in a LONG time. Based on talent I'd go with Heights but I'd have trouble picking against hoptown. So. 1. hoptown - assuing johnson plays but not cager 2. UHA 3. County (Even with trice). If UHA plays solid defense they will win the 8th and probably the region. But that's the question. Will Heights play defense? We will know when they open the season vs. graves.
  18. Good deal. I understand now. I think the question for UHA is this. Now that they have a team that will start 3 juniors a senior and a freshman, do they have the experience to get past the top teams in the region?
  19. I'm not sure what you're saying... Can you expand on what you mean re: the first sentence? I realize Muhlenberg probably isn't very good. But it was an impressive performance by University Heights... Should be an exciting year in the 8th district.
  20. He has not been cleared yet... The Devon Cooper situation is in play here. Jalen participated in a scrimmage where score was kept and referees were used. That is the issue at hand... The "when the school year starts" rule is clearly in play here. It's a tough situation. I'm a huge fan of Jalen's. But the rule is in place to keep a kid from being able to do what he did. go get world class coaching on a team and then decide to join up with your school team about the time the season starts. This is why AAU ball doesn't exist in the fall for high school kids. I'm torn because he's an amazing kid and a great player. But if he's allowed to do this, what is stopping other very good players to going to Oak hill for 3 months to start the year only to return right in time for their high school season? Seems like an unfair advantage to me for the kids who are good enough to get on these "non sanctioned" teams.
  21. University Heights led 40-11 at half and started subbing heavily in the 3rd quarter. They were led by Kyky Tandy with 34 points. Freshman KJ Crump scored 16. The Blazers were without senior Big Man Malik Lovan who is expected to return for their opener next week. I have no idea how good Muhlenberg County is supposed to be this year but this looks to be a fairly impressive performance.
  22. So sad. Rumor is that it will be for the full regular season. No idea if that is true. But if true, I'd say that opens up[ the 8th district. This was a long time coming according to many folks at Hoptown High. I don't think anybody is surprised. HOpe the kid gets things turned around.
  23. University Heights beat Muhlenberg County 79-46 last night. UHA only gave up something like 3 field goals in the first half and led 40-11.
