Ha, ha .... fair enough. Upfront .... I definitely got the points that you were making about the Birds .... Things got confusing for me when you spoke to Beechwood's "super bowl" If there was any extra motivation (besides the fact that this team is locked in ... and committed to doing the right things) ... personally ... I would point to the fact that they had a bye last week. (I agree that that point alone could definitely help or hurt the Tigers) The other part ... is where Stringer was mentioned. The only piece that I wanted to be clear about there ... was the fact that there were many contributions from other players last night. And it seems like we have at least one thing in common (which would be my knowledge of Beechwood). I have absolutely zero beef with any assessments that you made regarding the Birds. I cannot speak intelligently about their freshman team ... so I have no reason to discount your points. Good luck to the Bird's this year! It would be a great thing if these teams get another chance to play at the end of the season.

Defensive? Nah ... not this time. What I take issue with would be this: you seem to have a good outlook on this game. You (and others) seemed to have a good grasp on how the freshman team would perform. Not to mention ... you were also educated on the opponent. You also speak about how this could be a great learning experience for your team. From my point of view ... you addressed good points and bad points in a manner that did not throw backhanded compliments at the other team. You know .. that is pretty cool. However ... I have a hard time rectifying the difference between JAOT's thoughts ... and your thoughts on what JAOT's actually meant. If that is frustration from JOAT ... no big deal. At the end of the day ... Beechwood is used to being the "super bowl" ... just like the Birds. At the end of the day ... Beechwood had a very balanced attack while playing solid defense. With that said ... two good teams played each other ... one of the teams had more success than the other. Right/wrong/indifferent ... Beechwood many have been the reason why some things did not work for the Birds. That's pretty much where I see it. Nothing less ... nothing more.

"Beechwood's Super Bowl" ... for real? "Highlands defense in one word is "awful"" hmmm ... geesh ... being the super bowl and all .. you think it would be a little better. "Beechwood would not be as good as they are without Stringer and this game would be much closer without him playing for the Beechies" Well ... I guess that is as close to a compliment as you are willing to give ... to the TEAM .. but .. that is okay. We understand. It was not any mystery to anyone in NKY that Beechwood has a good team this season (well ... I guess you are the exception). Your "super bowl" comment is a joke. You played one of the two other teams (besides Highlands) in NKY who experience the thrill of being everyone else's super bowl .. and this is what you come up with? Kudo's to both teams and programs. Also ... kudo's to the Highland's fans who are handling this with class. Anyone can win all the time .. and have "class". Reactions are more telling after a loss ... and most of you are coming through with flying colors. But heck ... I haven't had a good laugh since about 5:30 pm ... so this was timely!

I should know better than to post again ... but ... I feel like Coach Brilz has gotten a horrible rep with this thread ... and it is not close to being deserved. So ...I have the clips in question ... if you PM me .. I will send you the link .. and you can make up your own mind.

Fair enough .... I think I understand your last line in "real" terms. On the inside .. if anything ... the friendship factor has really started to fade (over the last few years in particular ... and I date that back to 2008). From my point of view ... there were some things that happened in other sports recently .. that have moved things in an opposite direction. That may be growing again at the lower grade levels ... but for the older kids .... not so much. At the end of the day ... things are a lot different now. After talking about it today .. there are a very few kids who likely used football as a deciding factor. And where I end up ... is that it is now basically a "family thing". If your Dad went to Cov Cath ... you end up there (same for Beechwood as well).

You recall wrong....2008 BW 51 Dayton 0. I think that you are thinking of Brossart (which was 76-0 ... and the first team played a grand total of 6 minutes in the first quarter).

You are correct ... no one cares .... For my money .... periods and standard punctuation are up there with "thin skin" .....

All very good points here .... Plus ... I would be willing to say that you have "Cov Cath families" and "Beechwood families" where kids are following the legacies of their parents, grandparents ... ... etc.

I guess you are going to have to quantify the differences for me .... because I still don't buy it. 1. Cov Cath and Dixie are also close ... and compete for similar kids .. so I guess I am waiting for the Cov Cath/Dixie "running up the score" 2. I agree that some of these guys spend time together ... but .... that has been on a significant decrease over the past 10 years. 3. Whether you agree or not ... Cov Cath is in competition with EVERY school in NKY for one simple reason ... MONEY. So .. based on your comments where you believe that Cov Cath should run up the score against Beechwood (which you believe should occur based on the fact that these schools are competing for kids) ... I have a hard time understanding why they should not take that approach with everyone they play.

Not so sure I agree .... In the past ... I would be willing to bet that there are a whole boatload of kids at Boone County who either have ... or will go to Cov Cath based on athletics (Beechwood could fall into that as well at times ... but ... that average is probably close to 1 to 3 each year .. where the effects of poor athletics influence the decision significantly more often). If you want to look at it on a higher level ... I would be willing to say that the competition between Cov Cath and Beechwood is basically non-existist due to the "Catholic Education" theory. Very, very, very few base their decision on football (and at this point ... I would say that other sports have a larger influence on heading to Cov Cath. Off the top of my head ... I can think of some great track athletes who went to Cov Cath because Beechwood did not have a team at the time. I would also Beechwood loses volleyball/basketball/softball players to NDA). In summation .... football has a lot less to do with it than other sports. And ... it has a lot to do with kids from schools like Boone, Conner, Cooper, Ryle, etc, etc going to Cov Cath to play football specifically. The last thought to think about ... would be this ... go to Beechwood .. have a better chance to win a championship (Yeah .. I know .. Mayfield. But ... if you want to play deep in the playoffs every year ... easy decision. Not to mention ... would you rather go to CC ... and possibly sit on the bench for a while .. or go to Beechwood and have a better chance to play?)

Okay ... I am officially confused ... in this thread ... you are all for running up the score ... This is what you said in the Cov Cath/Boone JV Thread: Nice win for CCH but I have to question passing the ball for a touchdown with about two minutes to go up by two touchdowns. The overwhelming opinion was it was bush league by the CCH coaching staff. Anyone? Not so sure you can have things both ways here?

You are entitled to your opinion ... which I respect ... but disagree with completely. It is something that pretty much all of us think about frequently (not to mention the young men who played their hearts out that night). Toothpick opened himself up to this when he decided to insert another Mayfield vs Beechwood barb ....

Nah .. don't buy into the hype. Again ... easy to assume ... what happened. The reality is a little different. The injury occured between the hash on Beechwood's side of the field and the sideline. The ref's let the players come all the way over to the sideline (as opposed to the normal position on the hash). Brilz was talking to the team ... as we were permitted by the refs. The real question is ... why was the other head coach focused on anything other than his injured player? So far ... the only reason that Brilz would have this reputation ... is because people who are uninformed believe and spread heresay and 2nd hand conversation.

When it comes to the Tigers .... I agree with nearly everything .. or at least parts of everything (the size piece is the only thing that I would argue with .. but then again ... I think I understand where you are coming from). As far as HC goes ... I can not (and will not) speak to those points. What I will say .. is that HC may have been down .. but they did not quit. Their players fought to the end. Back to the Tigers ... the last few weeks have been very tough ... but everyone in the program is working hard to improve. This will be the type of team that walks into the post season with a chip on their shoulder .. and will have improved more than any team I have been around.

I love it ... easy to speak about one person ... but ... did you happen to calculate how many yards Highlands lost that night? (I know .. I don't know because I haven't listed it yet ... or ... maybe I am going play by play right now ... so everyone can see it for their self). The score was what you said ... Again though ... lets look at the facts ... Wasn't it 33 to 0 at half? How many points did the Birds score on the 3rd and 4th stringers? (Hmmm ... let me see ... 18 maybe? But again .. all the way to 4 years ago .. Bird fans insist by living with the illusion that the Cards had starters on the field). With that said .. I will be more than happy to go ahead and end here ... but if that is not good enough for you .. I will be more than happy to show everyone the play by play. Highlands is a great program ... IMO--they EARNED my respect a LONG time ago (when I was old enough to "understand"). It just baffles me that you come down on the Cards because they decided to play Ryle. (And then tried to play it off like Colerain is not making an attempt to schedule quality competition. To bring things back around ... I will still say this ... Ryle helped their self by playing this game. Colerain got something out of it as well. At the very least ... they got to work on their passing game ... against a physical team ... the week before playing a HUGE game. From my point of view ... sounds pretty smart to me. With that said .. good luck to Ryle, Colerain and the Birds. I pray (no joke) that all three teams (as well as all the others) stay injury-free--and play to the best of their ability.

Now ... lets put this in its proper context ... "I have never witnessed it but the Guru has a bad reputation for running his mouth/being a bully on his website. Again, I have not witnessed it but I have heard about it on several occasions." With that said ... I support your ability to speak you mind. I respect the fact that you were honest (you heard something .. and stated that you have never witnessed it). However ... the negative perception in the above statement will always outweigh the fact that you have never actually witnessed said bullying or the running of the mouth. What is disturbing in society in general ... is the quickness of someone who is large in physical stature to be labeled as a bully .. is scary. It is rarely ever the truth .. and the potential harm to that person is never seriously considered. With that said ... let me bring some facts to the table: *Coach Brilz is 100% professional at all times (in 10 years ... I have heard a grand total of TWO (2 for those of you who are not Beechwood graduates) cuss words from him. *The only time I have seen Coach Brilz fired up on the sideline ... are times when our kids are put in unsafe situations (and again ... the word here would be ANIMATED .. not running his mouth ... not bullying) *Coach Brilz is the only former professional athlete that I have ever met ... who had the ability to relate to high school student athletes on their level. Coach Brilz is first and foremost a teacher of the game -- and to be able to teach high school athletes in a manner that is open--and not intimidating .. is again .. something that I have never experienced from a former professional athlete. *Win, lose or draw ... Coach Brilz makes it a point to reach out to coaches and athletes on opposing teams .. to shake their hand, wish them well, point out great plays, great schemes/coaching, etc. (Which is funny considering the fact that there is always one coach who can't seem to shake hands after certain games. At the end of the day .... there are very few people who could actually speak to what our coaches say on the sidelines (then again ... we apparently have a coach to player ratio of 2:1 .. which ... is pretty cool for our program) . which makes me wonder if this information came from the officials in our area. Our guys over here do a great job ... which becomes more obvious when you travel outside of our area. But .. if they (or anyone else for that matter) thinks certain coaches get fired up ... they need to travel to Ohio and stand on the sidelines for the first 5 minutes of a game over there. The worst things I have heard in the past 20 years in Kentucky are normal conversation over there. With that said ... we all need to keep in mind that things that are "heard" but not "witnessed" probably need to die a quick death. 99 times out of a 100 ... those statements are wrong.

I am 100% sure that I knew the last time the Cards dropped the hammer on the Birds. The reality is ... I am extremely surprised that you knew when it was. 55 yards is pretty freaking close if you actually add everything up correctly (close in my definition is 3 yards) I am not surprised that you failed to address the fact that Highlands WILL NOT PLAY COLERAIN anymore. Sounds "fishy"? Hmmmm .... that part to me is about as comical as your assertion that Colerain fans are "getting off" on a win against Ryle. I guess it was so meaningful for them that they ran empty the entire game ... and worked on a phase of the game that comes in about 12th on a list of things that Colerain does. As far as a Highlands hater ... ha, ha, ha ... I freaking doubt it. My last high school game against Highlands was a win for us ... therefore .. I have no reason to hate the Birds. I am pretty sure that it was the straw that broke the communities back when it came to getting rid of a certain former head coach. But ... why let the facts get in the way of a good argument? Pretty sure Colerain has played Highlands in the recent past ...and I am pretty sure they had no trouble with them (I know the Highlands posters seem to think that the game was closer than the score indicated the last time around .... but I just finished watching it again .. what did Highlands have .. 55 yards of total offense)? Also ... pretty sure Colerain has tried to play Highlands again ... and it has not happened. Colerain is not scared to play anyone. Not really sure why you would put yourself out there like this ... but .. the truth is not what you claim ... plenty of people know the real story.
