I'm glad to hear you don't specifically know that any Campbell 8th girls are transferring. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I glanced at the Royals roster and there are only four nky girls on Mackes roster as far as I can tell. Two have already enrolled at HC, one being a Covington girl that makes some sense. The other being her daughter, where if offered a job, that makes sense too. The other two local girls are the Campbell County girls. If it's just the two of them from one AAU team going to HC that doesn't seem too bad? A girl moving in from out of town maybe a little more sketchy, but that seems extreme for this age to happen?

I know some of this is from another thread but it relates to the Holy Cross program. You mentioned (in the other thread) other 8th grade girls, besides the two (that play Royals AAU) already going to HC, would or possibly could be headed to HC within the next year. You also mentioned that one of these possible transfer girls was a SK girl. However, there are no SK girls that play Royals AAU but there are two Campbell County 8th girls that play for Royals AAU. Is it possible you have the schools mixed up? I really hope not, the 8th Campbell girl got varsity playing time as a 7th grader last year. It would be a bummer to lose her to HC. I'm crossing my fingers that's not the case.

Mason County has been playing together all summer and look like a team on a mission. Campbell County is loaded with talent. These two seem to be on a different teir than the rest of the region. I would be very surprised if one of these two teams is not at the state tournament.

Different types of players are hard to compare. The bottom line is that top to bottom the Lady Camels are going to be a force. Clos, Jolly, Schwaber... I believe Mason County is good this season but I think the Camels will be better and should be ranked #1. IMHO I also believe Scott is ranked too high. I don't think their key players will be able to keep up this year. I also think Montgomery County should be higher than ten. They are a team not to be taken lightly and I believe will finish much higher than 10th in the region.

Saw her play in a varsity game as a 7th grader last year. Scored like 10 points, was very impressive.

This is going to be a great year for the Camels. Hegyi is going to be a force. They have size and all the pieces to make a serious run.

Good list. For the players, I would have Crawford and Ohmer ahead of Wilson. I would also have Cole Hegyi from Campbell in around 9 or 10. Camels are going to be strong this year, I think they will make a real run at state.

Covcath Campbell county Ryle Highlands Beechwood Just my opinion. Freshman football is always a little hard to judge when comparing teams depending on how devoted the coaching staff is to development.

Jada Stinson is one of the top 5 guards in the state now IMHO. If a team gives too much attention to Boley, Jada will eat them alive. To use Nathaniel Bryan's illustration above I'd say they have two "Suns" (just one is bigger). Jada will play high level D1 basketball. It's always hard to think of younger girls being better when you lose seniors but I really think Etown will be better this year than last! That may seem crazy, but Jada is the real deal. One girl can be stopped but two of the top ten girls in the whole state together...that is going to be really fun to watch. Add in excellent role players in Warden and Thomas and this team might be one of the best KY girls teams ever.

Erin Boley is one of the best players to come through the state in awhile. Etown deserves a number one ranking just because of her. Add the other high level players and anything short of a state championship will be a disappointment. They will have a great season

I think losing that one girl to SK will hurt them for sure. But they still bring back some good players. And I hear they have good coaching and I think they will still be competitive in most their games this year.

Parents I talked to said a majority of the girls teams 7th grade and older were top/high level girls players and teams. Apparently the Stars teams beat many of the Premier teams this summer. So although your thought may be valid, it seems that so many of the Stars girls are high level, so as you point out, it's best for them. They felt the change was in the best interests of a majority of the girls currently playing for the Stars.

While I agree that Gray was an important player and did her role great, I am not sure that Clos, Jolly or Kramer moving to the PG changes their opportunities to score all that much. Especially Clos, her shooting is her strength. No matter what position a gifted player plays they find a way to get the ball in the hoop. I believe new leadership will develop, one of those girls will run the point, and they will all get to reach their personal scoring goals.

IMHO I believe you can watch film from games or watch the teams live to arrive at that opinion. I would say the same for other teams I've seen too. Highlands has more speed and strength overall than Boone County does this year. They haven't played but having seen Highlands play and seen video of Boone it would be my opinion that highlands would be too fast and strong for Boone.

Oh my... Here is what I originally said in one part of my comment of why I thought Covcath would beat highlands in football this year... "Their freshman and JV programs have been stronger. They have more athletic kids because of their private school draw." Some of you all are crazy, it's just my opinion that CovCath currently has more/better overall athletes this year in the school than Highlands. I never said anything about "domination", I didn't care to discuss the athletic drawing power of private schools, and I certainly do not care to compare golf scores over the past four years between the two schools. I don't have kids that go to Covcath. I am certainly not flexing some proud parent muscle. I was right before the season started when I said that Highlands would have a down year because of their lack of athletes (semantics?) and it's my opinion that their lacking in that department will end in a loss to Covcath. In football. I could be wrong, this is just my thoughts. This is not to disparage any highlands kids by any stretch, I am sure there are many great athletes at the school. Just fewer than Covcath. This year.

Ok well when I said years past I meant the years before the current students were in the school. So 4 or more years ago. I could be wrong I haven't done any exhaustive research. In my small picture of things over the past few (less than 4 years) it seems Covcath has better athletes than HHS.

I agree - I'm not sure that Walton will be able to stay with the bigger schools. And the Walton Player of the Year candidate referred too? .... Haley Ison I guess? Is she a candidate for Kentucky POY? Or you 8th region POY?

Covcath has beaten HHS in soccer, baseball and basketball. Should I check the golf scores too? What are we arguing about? Whether private schools get better athletes in general? Or whether Covcath generally gets better athletes? My opinion is that Covcath currently has better athletes grades 9-12 than the athletes in HHS. This is just overall, I'm sure there are some great athletes at HHS. And I would argue it's easier for Covcath to draw/get those athletes being they are a private school.

It's certainly not an across the board always happens thing. Not every private school draws a lot of athletes. But my original comment was specifically about covcath. But it is generally a true thing that certain private schools become a draw for athletes. This doesn't seem that confusing or revelatory to me?

I Basketball and football, main sports... Soccer? Baseball? Do you believe HHS has better athletes across the board than Covcath? It's just my opinion, but in every sport I've seen, Covcath athletes are superior (in general) to HHS. This is what I'm seeing currently, this is not a discussion about years past.

Is that a rhetorical question or are you really asking? Considering that entire states have divided their playoff systems by public and private and Ohio is making a confusing bylaw to battle it... I'm guessing it's rhetorical. One doesn't have to look far for evidence that private schools draw athletes. And they draw other kinds of students too, but certainly athletes is one.

I was probably thinking more generally over the past few years with wins and losses in the developmental parts/teams. I would also say freshman games are a better gauge of general talent since few freshman play up and if they do they generally play freshman too. At the JV level a lot of juniors play down and sophomores play up so its a little harder to judge/compare talent.

There's always transitions. There are some good middle schoolers coming in. Mallory Koehler (think that's her name) was up playing some varsity last year as a 7th grader and will likely contribute a lot this year. I've seen her play, she will be good. You may lose a few older but it's more of a question of what's coming in behind them.
