  1. Creech played against mountain teams since the 6th grade. These teams often comprised of many middle school players while she was a senior. She took 101 shots a game. Rewarding a player because of where they’re born does not seem remotely reasonable for her to win Miss Basketball. There was several better players than her her senior year. And since then there have been no Miss Basketball winners I would give Creech the nod over. There are girls all over the NCAA in top 25 colleges making big impacts and Creech is not one of them.
  2. Maybe you missed my point that Maddies stats were better than any Kentucky player if you include all categories. For sure top 5 in state. But either way, this award, I would guess has nothing to do with stats but has to do with who is the best player. I heard Mya did very well in the summer playing with maddie, so maybe she did have a chance to win Gatorade? I’ve seen Mya several times in school ball. She is a dominant player there but in my opinion she’s not on Maddies level. Never saw them together in the summer
  3. Odd list here heading into the tournament. No offense meant, but besides SK, no one on this list has a chance to win state. Maybe Butler or Bethlehem make some noise but they likely won’t even make the state tournament. Winning streaks against bad teams means nothing.
  4. The list is out for the 10th region coaches 2019-20 awards. Most of the list seems to make sense. Biggest upset (but maybe not a surprise) Marie Kiefer wins POY over Kennedy Igo. Although I think Meredith would have won it anyway if she hadn’t gotten hurt. Don’t like how coaches spread around their votes because I do think some 2nd and 3rd team players are too low while some 1st and 2nd team are too high. 1st team Marie Kiefer Kennedy Igo Mallory Holbrook Zoe Strings Sofia Allen 2nd team Jaylyn Jackson McLain Murphy Tyra Flowers Hayden Barrier Brianna Byers 3rd team Chez Tye Kaitlin Ecklar Rachel Payne Kylie Koeninger Jamie Cowan
  5. Seen her coach, seems fine when I’ve seen her. It does seem to me her first year when she had all senior tall girls (Mallory Schwartz and Carly Lange group) heading off to play college ball they should have won the region. As you said it’s hard to say cause her talent level has been so high. Last years Ryle team I think almost any coach could have won state. Schwartz should have won Miss Basketball. Imagine having two miss basketballs on your team plus the surrounding cast. Hard to mess that up. Once they move past the Scherr era we will see how they do. They will have enough talent to win but the coaching will make a bigger difference.
  6. Way to go Kennedy! Been watching her since her Montgomery County days, great great player! NKU got lucky getting a high level player like her!
  7. I really thought CC had this one, they were playing well, taking time and keeping ahead. 4th quarter we dropped the ball so to speak. Holbrook was not getting the looks needed
  8. Congrats Coach Stamm! Lot of great years on the hardwood!
  9. Is Shelby Valley the team with Cassidy Rowe, girl going to Kentucky? And WV held them to 31 pts? That is suffocating defense. How did that play out?
  10. Congrats Maddie! She has represented nky well and now she’s getting deserved national recognition.
  11. Great coach! I like the ones that get fired up! Congrats Coach Stowers!
  12. The strength of Scott was Mya Meredith. Mya was the top player in the whole region and would have been a top player in the whole state. Very big loss that’s been a real challenge to overcome for the Lady Eagles.
  13. How does she compare to Igo as an 8th grader Goldie?
  14. Even if they were the best 8th graders in the whole state that met would struggle against a top team like SH
  15. This was not an upset. Some of us predicted this. Any other thinking was just hometown hopefulness. Ryle starts a eighth grader and a ninth grader. And has another eighth grader that plays a lot from what I’ve heard. There is no chance that this team will be able to handle a team like Sacred Heart and two of the top guards in the state
  16. Sacred Heart by 15. They are the number one team in state for reason. Ryle is not what they were last year. Still good of course, but not like last year where they could beat anyone
  17. Not too hammer this point too much but I’d have to agree with the other posters here. Meredith most definitely makes enough of a difference here. Not saying Scott automatically wins but it’s a completely different game with Mya playing. I’m sure your 8th grader is fine but Mya is on a different level than any 8th grader. She has high power 5 offers and if it weren’t for this knee injury she’s most likely Miss Basketball 2021. Her or Brooklyn Miles would win.
  18. “ Good thing you are not a college basketball coach because all you would recruit are players that play at bigger schools and on summer AAU basketball teams.” Is this a joke? Please name one D1 coach that doesn’t recruit ONLY players this way. Please name one D1 player who did not play either AAU, big school or both.
  19. By the way, there are not a lot of players listed on the assists, blocks and steals category cause a lot of teams don’t turn in those stats. Kentucky has no official place to report those. So being in the top 5 OUT OF FIVE is nothing to post about
  20. Haha ok. But if Mallory, Kylie or Jalyn played the schedule Strings plays and or were the only really good player on their team like Strings all three would average more ppg, steals, assists than Strings IMO. Who you play against matters a lot IMO
  21. I am totally great with you hyping Zoe as a good player. But you seem to overstate her relative to the other top players in Kentucky. Is there any statewide ranking that even has her in the top 100? Any All-state honors from coaches? Again, I’m sure she’s a good player. And sounds athletic, how tall is she? Can you answer my question posted above though? Over a hundred thousand dollars to be had for playing a game yet she’s just not interested? Especially for someone coming from a small school, how can she pass up such a chance? It just makes it harder to believe your statement “she would go D1 easily”.
  22. Creech is an “example” I’m using to make a point. Has nothing to do with her average college career at an average D1 school.
  23. Have no issue with her not playing summer. Coach Josiah hyping her as a top 5 player in the whole region though, that’s why all the questions. Hard to imagine a girl “guaranteed a D1 scholarship” passing that up? Over a hundred thousand dollars to be had for playing a game but “no interest”?
  24. Please let us know where you are getting the assists, steals and blocks stats for the region. Or are you making this stuff up?
  25. No shade intended, just asking real questions and making what seems like solid points. How can you not understand that high stat results vs low level teams does not qualify a player as a top player. I used this example before but no one in their right mind ever considered Whitney Creech the same level player as the top players in Kentucky her senior year. And her stat points literally demolished every player of all time in the entire state Kentucky. Can you not acknowledge that her stats are inflated in some regard because of the competition?
