Yep, we saw a good one that night! By the way, I have no idea who wins this one either....

Why is Mayfield not the home team? I know the semis alternate for home team, but I thought the regional championship home field went to the higher seeded team. What am I missing?

Wow....as an uninformed fan of a team in the west, I have been hearing Danville's name all year long as the favorite to come out of the east and possibly win the title. I realize LCA got them the first time, but I'm still surprised at the posts so far. Should be a good one!

Wow. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game like that before. DeSales zoomed out to a 35-0 lead in the best half I've seen them play in four years. They were dominant on both sides of the ball and looked like a true title contender. Then they lost focus and made the mistake of letting their foot off the gas. The second half was a full implosion. Six penalties, two turnovers, failed to recover an onside kick....they looked like a team that might have a running clock put on them next week. In the end, I feel sure that the second half will serve as a wake-up call as the Colts play.....for the 5th year in a row....CAL with the regional championship on the line.

After a REALLY sharp week of practice, I feel much better about the Colts as we head to Glasgow this evening. The young guys are vastly improved, and the veterans are battle tested. I am curious to see if they come out and really put it together tonight. Go Colts!!!

So assuming all goes as expected this week, how do you like their chances of knocking off Mayfield???

What are OC's strengths and weaknesses? Just curious....

Without having seen any of the contenders in the east play, at this point would Danville be considered the favorite to come out of the east?

I was looking at their film and they DO have some nice skill players. However, one of DeSales' strengths is their speed. They have three DBs that can catch you from behind, so it helps to limit the big play potential.

I hate to say this, but I continue to be worried about Glasgow. Not JUST Glasgow, but the idea that DeSales handled them VERY easily down there two years ago, and a rematch with CAL is waiting in the wings. I know the coaching staff is doing all they can to avoid a slip, but the dang game worries me!

I was much more concerned about Glasgow before they got thumped by E-town. What is their best win? I am familiar enough with Campbellsville, Holy Cross, Green, Monroe, Metcalfe & Shawnee not to be impressed by any of those wins. What about the wins against Barren, Allen, & Warren East? Would any of those be considered quality wins?

DeSales is in the film room as I type this early Saturday morning. The coaching staff holds Glasgow in high regard and were already preaching it to the boys after the game last night. The Colts are locked in right now, and I see them pulling away late for a two TD victory.

I hope so! DeSales pitched another shutout last night, albeit against an inferior opponent. They've played six opponents that are either 5-A or 6-A, plus CAL, and only one team has scored more than 14 points on them this season. Because of that fact alone, they've at least got a puncher's chance against anybody.

LOL!!! Wow, TP, I thought you were going to say Butler County popped off last night! I didn't realize the "poke" came when they were in middle school. Lol.....

I was also going to post about Milton Wright. If there's a better sophomore in the state, I would pay to go watch him play.

Exactly! I posted this as an entirely uninterested observer. I've never in my life seen Highlands play, but I know it's a big deal when those guys walk into your stadium. And if it's a big deal to a middle-aged man, I feel sure it's a big deal to a group of teenagers. Personally, I think there's value in that.

It's playoff time! As usual, DeSales is firing on all cylinders entering the playoffs, having won their last three games by a combined score of 129-0. That being said, I agree with their ranking. They are a perfect fit in the three hole. Monroe County put a jolt into us last year, taking a two TD lead early in the game. I don't look for that to happen this year, although Glasgow in the second round gives me some pause. Here is why I like the Colts' chances to make another deep run. 1. Defense wins championships, and for a team known year in and year out for their defense, this may be their best one. They have only given up 65 points this season against a pretty rigorous schedule. 2. The young pups are growing up. DeSales has considerably more raw talent than they had last year, but much of it was young. These guys are now more seasoned and their improvement has been considerable. 3. Speed! Last year's team was HUGE but lacked big play ability. This year's team is the exact opposite. 4. There are always a few tricks up the sleeves of this coaching staff as playoff time rolls around, and this year is no different. Look for some adjustments in a few key personnel groups to maximize the speed on the field at all times! Should be a fun ride...go Colts!!!

REALLY intriguing first round match up. Doss has the athletes to win this game, but can they overcome the aura that Highlands will bring with them?

I try not to be too boastful about my Colts. That being said, I would place them as the 4 seed behind Belfry, Mayfield & CAL. HOWEVER, under no circumstances would I have them seeded behind either Lex Cath or Paintsville. The defense is simply too strong.

Well said! I agree 100%. My son has spoken more highly about the kids from Shawnee than any other team two years in a row. He said they play their hearts out and show excellent sportsmanship. Plus, the AD personally walked through the visiting bleachers and welcomed us to Shawnee when we played there. They have some excellent leadership in place. They just don't have the numbers. Best of luck to those kids moving forward!
