Now THAT is a halftime adjustment! Three minutes into second half Desales has two TDs and didn't even have the ball to start the half. 20-14 Colts.

Colts look their age in the first half and look a little intimidated by the bigger and aggressive Butler squad. Curious to see what adjustments are made. This is a strong point of this staff.

Butler up 14-6 at half and enjoying it. Taunting fans, etc. Getting chippy on the field. Desales had a player ejected. Butler dominating the game on both sides of the ball. They are big and fast. Several weapons on offense. If they stay disciplined they could make some noise in 2017.

Been gone a while so I'm just now seeing this. Counting freshmen, they will be at or near that number again this season.

This is my alma mater, and they are a mere 20 years removed from blowing past Trinity on their way to winning the 4-A state title. The decline started when Mark Brown left, and it has accelerated in the last 4-5 years. They do have an alum lighting up the scoreboard at LWC - Dylan Beasley is dominating that league as a QB.

And, yes, Scroggins is coaching LBs.

DeSales lost three good RBs (Tharp, Simpson, Sirohman) but the stable is loaded with replacements. QB Aaron Pfaadt returns and I look for him to light up the scoreboard. They have some scary-good skill position players that will be sophs and juniors but played a lot last year. In my opinion, the offense will be considerably better, and the defense will always be among the best in 2-A. I like their chances this year better than last year, and it turns out that they were better than I thought last year. They were the only team to really challenge CAL. Their two games were CAL's closest two of the season against 2-A teams.

I agree with this 100%. Carr has the mixed blessing of getting overshadowed by Wright, but also getting to throw to him. Carr was noticeably better this year, particularly with his running ability. He seemed more elusive and was an aggressive runner as needed. With his size and two more years to improve, he'll be highly sought after before it's over.

DeSales will be in the mix also. Lots of sophomores and two freshmen that played critical roles this year, including the QB, the leading receiver and one of the key running backs. Line will be much improved as well. I agree with the idea that 2-A will be an absolute BATTLE next year, with 5-6 teams having a legitimate shot to win it all.

Congrats to the Centurions. It's hard to keep Wright contained for four quarters. I believe I am correct on this...during the playoffs, he scored TDs rushing, receiving, on punt returns and on an interception return. He threw for a TD yesterday. He's a game changer in so many aspects of the game.

Fair point. I also agree with the guys on the game thread that the score was deceiving. It was a much closer game than the score indicated.

There's some truth to that, but we DEFINITELY have a leg to stand on now! I'll be honest about this, I thought we had a very good chance to sneak up on Mayfield this year if we could get past CAL. We were a better team this year than last year. We lost a lot of big boys last year, but the athleticism was increased greatly. As the year progressed, I felt the Colts were better than in 2015 on both sides of the ball. I still believe that to be true, but we just couldn't get past the Centurions this time. I left that game highly impressed by how good CAL is this year, and after watching them play Mayfield, I now KNOW DeSales was better this year than they were last year. CAL scored 33 on us in two games. So this thread entered my mind after the regional final, and I even mentioned the possibility that they might be the best 2-A team in the last five years in the pre-game thread of the game against Mayfield. Anyway, we'll never know for sure, but they are loaded and the only team I've seen in the last five years that stacks up against them is DeSales' 2013 team.

I thought with Mayfield's championship experience, and CAL's lack thereof, perhaps the moment would be too big for CAL last weekend. Having cleared that hurdle, I think this would be one of the bigger upsets of the season if the Ads pull this off.
