Anyone who has every coached has heard something equivalent to, "everything changes when the pads go on." Whatever you think you know about a player/team doesn't mean anything until you've seen the kids in pads. I've seen guys that look the part that can't play a lick, and guys who look average that are just "players" when the pads are on. So really, if you want to get a good feel of the type of team you have, you get them out there with equipment on and determine who your "players" are. Of course, he has coaches around from last year, as well as film. So he has other avenues to determine talent. But a 40 time, agility ladder, or some bags, really won't tell you much about your team.

I think anything that gets Lawson out of Bullitt Central before the start of this season is going to be his "dream job."

Does Bullitt East have a bunch of football players that also play baseball/track?

Head Coach is still serving as AD of another school. So I am sure time is not his most abundant commodity. Who knows if he has his staff in place? Maybe he is still determining what he wants to do in terms of OC/DC? IDK. Several things could be the cause, but the root is probably that the staff is not ready to install an offense/defense/ect. You'd rather do nothing at all, than go do something half butt. If they come out and have a crappy spring, it sets the tone and will be hard to overcome. If they do relatively nothing, then at least they can set the right tone in the Fall. It may cost them a little this offseason, but if would cost them more if they didn't do it right. I guess the big question is why are they not ready to go? I think if I was hired 2-3 months before the start of spring ball, that I would have all of those things in place and ready to move. A new Head Coach can find out a lot more about their team with 15 days of practice than they can timing 40's, L drills and vertical/broad jumps. All of this is just a guess. I am sure there are others close to the program that may have details.

Harry, I don't know you or anyone else on this forum for that matter. I just saw 2 pages of Jaggers comments and figured he was in the running for this job. Then all was quiet and then this hiring came out. Go back and read the first 2 pages and you're expecting to hear Jaggers name come back at some point. Just wondering what was up? Wasn't trying to stir any pot, wasn't making any reference at all to last year. Guy sounds like a good coach, Coach Harmon sounds like a good coach. I never threw Jaggers name out there, everyone else did. I was just wondering if it was something he was ever in the mix for, or if people were just throwing names? I'll assume from your response that people were just throwing names. Regardless, this post is no reflection of Jaggers, Harmon, or anything that went on last year.

Congrats to Coach Harmon on the job! Usually don't like to talk about people that DIDN"T get the job. But does anyone know what happened to Jaggers? Did he even apply? Just seems like there were 3 pages of comments on how this was his job, then all goes quiet before another guy is named. Don't need too many details. But everyone talked about it for too long not to at least get some closure on it.

Any idea what their off-season is looking like? Assistant coaching moves? One of my coaching friends told me they may be returning to a more running attack next year (I think Coach Lawson may have a WingT background or something). This would be a big overhaul as much as they went 5 wides and aired it out last year.

All good stuff guys. Not too familiar with the Marion area, so that all stuff I would just be guessing on. Guess we will now just wait to see who actually applied and what decision Marion comes up with. Sounds like if the right guy gets the job then we could see some good things coming down the road.

Only one time since 2007 has Woodford County won more than 5 games. They hire a first year head coach to turn a program around......gonna have to give him some time. Maybe someone with experience could have turned it around a little quicker.....but I'm guessing that someone with that experience probably wasn't applying for this job. Of course as I type this, I am figuring that you guys that have been complaining about Woodford all year are probably sour because Johnson got the job over you or someone you are close to (or liked more than him)......but give the guy some time, which is the same thing you would have wanted.

I would love to see Glaser COACH at manual. But I don't know if he could give up one of the best teaching jobs in the state to do it. Also, as much as he may want to stick it to the admin, gotta think he still has a big heart for the young men at X, and would be very hard to coach against them. Don't know him personally, but from what I've heard from some of my X friends that played for him, I really don't see him taking it.

Isn't their staff full of assistants with varsity experience? I think they have 4/5 former head coaches working as assistants. Didn't they just bring in an OC from a private school in Tennessee with head coaching experience? Don't know what the problems are, but don't think it's as simple as bring in a head coach with "varsity coaching experience."

Know first hand of a coach, takes over a program with about 35/40 members on team. Goes 0-11, 1-10, 6-5. In the third year, 6-5 season, they have over 60 on roster, and only 4 seniors. Is told in January, by the principal and AD, that he MUST win a home playoff game the next year in order to keep his job.

Have you specifically heard anything on Billings at North? Or do you just think he would leave b/c a guy he went to school with is no longer the principal? Where would he go? Huge turnaround in year 1, hear nothing but good things, don't think he and the principals were big pals before the hire anyway.

The sad part about this is that the majority of parents only care about their kid. I am sure there are some that would be okay with the team losing if that meant their kid was a full time player. You would think winning takes care of all of this, but I assure you that it does not. I am sure they aren't wishing to be 1-10. But I am sure they would prefer their kid play, even if it meant losing some games.

I think there's a reason why once a coach had made it at a place like X, Male, Trinity, that you don't ever see them trying to go and "turn a program around" anywhere else. There is not doubt that those guys are great coaches, proof is in the pudding. But the hard work goes into building it, and I think all of these Coach of the Year comments are people that are building it! Nothing taken away from those great programs....... But how many people wanted a job like North Bullitt? Billings has them from 1-10 last season, Picked last by everyone in a 6 team district, to 8-1 this season 4-0 in district. Take nothing away from the big programs, but gotta give props to these guys that are teaching kids to "get on the bus," and leading/coaching kids to do things that they have never done.

If Nelson Wins, Oldham is definitely out, and Nelson's game next week against Bullitt Central will be for the 4 seed. If Oldham wins, and Bullitt Central loses to South Oldham tonight, they would need Nelson to beat Bullitt Central next week to force a 3 way tie for the 4 seed. Peronally, I think BC loses to SO tonight, Nelson Beats OC, and next week's Nelson/BC game is for the 4 seed.

The best X could do is have M/T play each other before meeting the winner in the 3rd round. Which is exactly what they did last year.
