Didn't see a thread yet for what is typically a pretty big rivalry game. . .

Read in Pioneer News Bullitt East finished game against South Oldham with a freshman at QB. Got a feeling they will try to grind it out with Dossey and Miles and eat as much clock as possible and play field position. I don't think East has anyone with the speed to contain James and Walls, but North has turned the ball over a few times.

I think North big turnover advantage it can be really ugly. If East wins the turnover battle it will be closer, but I don't think they have enough offense to win. I'll pick North 21 - 7.

This game is for the #2 seed.

Did I hear correctly that BE played some of their varsity starters in JV game Monday? Heard QB played (I understand he's a freshman, but if you're going to play him on Fridays), a starting Olineman and starting LB. Maybe that's why their struggling with injuries and depth.

North Bullitt hasn't played South Oldham yet, they're still playing for the #1.

It is true that some varsity starters played (sophomores). I heard that the starting Qb will be back this week. Probably why the freshman played. BE is still decimated with injuries. Probably the best two RBs on team have been out most of the year, both are only sophomores. These injuries are going to play a big part. BE doesn`t seem to have a great deal of speed to begin with, but most of the speed they do have is hurt.

That makes zero sense to me. One, you risk getting a Friday night starter hurt on Monday. Two, that should be an opportunity for other kids to get experience and develop. Not sure who that benefits.

North Bullitt will handle this one easily.

We've been wondering the same thing.

Last year they had a freshman who started varsity and they still had him playing on the freshman and JV teams.

The first few games BE got blown out but they kept their starters in the whole game. They never substitute and play the same 15 or 16 players on offense and defense.

Cant compete consistently at the 5A level doing that.

BE is slow compared to the teams they have had the last couple years. Their sophomore class is definitely their best group. There just isn't much healthy, talented depth in the junior and senior classes this season. Each of the two older groups has some solid players, just not enough, especially to withstand the injuries.

Don't really know much about the Junior and Senior classes. My son played with some of the sophomore players. It has been tough to watch them struggle. BE will be very tough in the future.

Playing sophomores or not on Varsity and JV is the ultimate Catch 22.

On one hand, you are sending them out for slaughter on Friday nights. On the other you want those kids to have some success playing against same aged kids, but at the expense of "What if they get hurt?".

It's definitely easier to sit back on here and wait to say, "Told ya so!", that's for sure.

Tough spot.

This is the BE way for past few years. The program struggles to build any depth due to not playing younger players in certain situations. If the game is out of hand in the 4th why would you not play some younger players to build your team for the future? Its at all levels in the program. I watched the freshman team 5-6 years ago beat fairdale 66-6. Only played 14 players in the game with most of those being on the JV team. This, in my opinion, is why the team struggles every year early in the season. The players are just not prepared. This team is decimated with injuries, part of that is poor conditioning, the other part is the team is not built to run the offense the coaches want to run. I think a good coaching staff puts the team in the best position to win by putting the game plan in to maximize players abilities. You dont take a running QB and put him in the shotgun and expect him to chuck it 30 times a game. Just like you dont throw the ball to the player who struggles to catch. Of course this is all my opinion and i sit on the sideline and watch Im not at practice and I dont see what happens there. Scary part is this team is still in the running for a 2 seed out of the lets say not so strong district.
