This is the BE way for past few years. The program struggles to build any depth due to not playing younger players in certain situations. If the game is out of hand in the 4th why would you not play some younger players to build your team for the future? Its at all levels in the program. I watched the freshman team 5-6 years ago beat fairdale 66-6. Only played 14 players in the game with most of those being on the JV team. This, in my opinion, is why the team struggles every year early in the season. The players are just not prepared. This team is decimated with injuries, part of that is poor conditioning, the other part is the team is not built to run the offense the coaches want to run. I think a good coaching staff puts the team in the best position to win by putting the game plan in to maximize players abilities. You dont take a running QB and put him in the shotgun and expect him to chuck it 30 times a game. Just like you dont throw the ball to the player who struggles to catch. Of course this is all my opinion and i sit on the sideline and watch Im not at practice and I dont see what happens there. Scary part is this team is still in the running for a 2 seed out of the lets say not so strong district.

 

I've heard a similar sentiment. Kids are quitting as freshmen and sophomores because they aren't getting any JV reps and opportunities to play. Football is a strange game, you don't know how those kids will develop over 4 years. I would think you'd want to keep as many around as possible.

Have you ever been to a St. X or Trinity JV game where they played a Varsity starter in a JV game? That is the issue we are discussing, taking someone like the Darnell kid last year or the Chappell kid the last two weeks and starting them Freshmen, JV and Varsity. If they are good enough to start on Friday, give other kids the reps on Monday and Thursday so you can develop some depth.

 

I get really tired of reading the BE staff complain every week in the Pioneer News about all their injuries and lack of depth when the use tactics like this and have created the lack of depth themselves.

I read your post every week and laugh at them. A guy as smart as you should be coaching somewhere. You have it all figured out.

Glad I can provide entertainment. I'm going to go coach to stay undefeated tonight and claim the #1 seed in our district. BE is going to try and keep from playing their 27th different QB this year.

Well if they went to St x or Trinity im guessing the reason they were not playing would be explained to them so that they could improve and possibly have a shot at some PT. Although I would be willing to bet that X or T neither of them have players playing in all 3 games every week, but that is just a guess as I have no idea what they do at those other schools.
