  1. Louisville Male: Darrell Griffith Bobby Turner Winston Bennett Jason Osborne
  2. They theoretically wouldn't needed a conference affiliation with them having the LHN. Could go independent and do just fine. At least on the football aspect of it.
  3. They found him. In a nightclub. Johnny Manziel found in the first place you’d look | New York Post
  4. If you compare him to Joker after 3 years: Joker: 13-24 Stoops: 12-24 Joker actually had 1 game better because they won 6 games 1 season. He was canned after 3 years. So I wouldn't say comparing him to a guy who got fired (who no one thought was a good head coach) and basically had the same record that he looks alright. Recruiting classes yes. Wins and losses no. Hopefully they fair better this season and this will be a moot point though.
  5. The thing is PP, you're absolutely right about time and depth to compete for championships in the SEC. I'm only talking about winning 3 games in the SEC though. Also, developing those guys a little better. I saw in another thread that Joker's average class ranking was 44 (a bunch of 3 stars and a few two stars) and Stoops average class is 32 (a good mix of 4 stars and high 3 stars). I made Joker reference because anyone on that roster this season should be good enough to compete. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of the players on this season's team are Stoops' kids though. Now all of his first class 4 stars like Timmons are Seniors, and will be playing and starting for four years in the SEC. and others Juniors as well. And they're the best group of talent UK has ever had. So with that being said, he shouldn't be held accountable if they can't win 3 SEC games? That's still a losing record in the SEC. Vandy did it with worse players. Heck UK did it with worse talent with Brooks. The question wasn't to beat the Bamas and Georgias. It was to beat the bottom feeders of the league and teams on down years and win simply 2 or 3 SEC games. Is that too difficult with the best talent ever assembled at a school for a 4 year period? Those 2-3 SEC wins are enough to get them to bowls and a 6-7 win season with an easy non-conference schedule. I'm asking if he should get canned if they simply aren't a below average team. They have above average players.
  6. Combo on high school level. More of an undersized 2 on the next level. Tyler Sharpe ish. Not as quick as Tyler. Little bit smoother though.
  7. I'm with everyone that it takes some time, and I honestly believe that UK "could" win 8 games this year. Then again I thought they'd at least win 7 last year after starting 5-0 or 5-1 whichever it was. What I think everyone is missing (that one poster has made), is that it's expected to take 3 more years or so to start challenging for divisional titles. I'm simply saying don't be last or second to last in the conference. Like win 2-3 SEC games. Not go 5-2 in SEC or anything like that. I saw James Franklin lead Vanderbilt two 2 straight 9 win seasons in the same division (with bowl wins). He was only there 3 seasons, and went to 3 straight bowls. Kentucky's schedule is no more brutal than Vandy's, and that was coming off of 2 straight 2-10 years before Franklin got there. That's with a smaller pool of players to recruit from with higher academic restrictions at Vandy. So while I think UK gets to a bowl game this year, I also don't think that 7-8 wins is too much to expect when his first class will be seniors this season. Look at winnable games on schedule Non-conf (Southern Miss, New Mex. St., Austin Peay, & toss up with Louisville) Conf (South Carolina, Vandy, miss st. (no more Dak Prescott) in Lex, Missou). They should at least get 6 of those, and could potentially steal an upset in another game not against Alabama. I hope they do well (except for Nov. 26). I know some kids on the roster personally. Just figured fans would expect a little more. Great that Stoops has that support though.
  8. Understood. Just eyeing the schedule. 7 wins would be winning 4 out of 5 games in a pretty weak non conf schedule (which they'll do), and go 3-4 in sec. Should beat vandy, missou, and 1 of miss st/sc/or tenn games. Seems pretty obtainable. Not expecting wins against the bamas and georgias, but to catch ok sec teams on down years should happen. But completely agree with top half of the league.
  9. Wasn't Elam a 5 star recruit? #1 dt? Then they got an ol this class i thought.
  10. I was seeing a lot of talk that Stoops has to lead the Cats to a bowl game (6-6) to at least keep his job. With the way that he's been recruiting (top notch for UK standards (4 straight top 35 classes)), shouldn't the bar be set a little higher, with at least 7-8 wins? I mean UK has a bunch of talent, and yes I understand that even when they're ranked 28 nationally, they're still #7 in recruiting in the SEC. By this year with all those high 3 and 4 star recruits (with a couple of 5's) sprinkled in with the "culture" that Stoops has spoken of for 3 seasons, shouldn't those Senior former 4 star players be developed enough to knock off some teams with younger 5 star players? I mean their recruiting is better than ever, but I don't see much of an improvement on the scoreboards (besides occasional scares) from the previous regime. Then Rich Brooks won more with less talent. Is setting the bar at 6 wins enough with a complete roster of his own recruits? I feel like it's selling the program short with all of the talent they've accumulated over the past 4 years. I'm okay with them staying mediocre since I'm a UofL fan, but from the outside looking in as a sports enthusiast I'm wondering do any UK fans feel the same way?
  11. It'll be 4 years, so probably whoever the hot name on the market is at that time. I don't see Self or anyone else at a powerhouse program moving (with the exception of Miller), but I don't know if Miller is the guy either. The next Brad Stevens could be making his mark in the next couple of years. I do like Greg Marshall for now though.
  12. I think it's tough saying that parents are raising pansies because they may not want there kids to play football. I was one that had the exact same stance as you, before learned more and more about the dangers of the sport itself. The same reason you have legends like Ed Reed that say I played football so that my son doesn't have to. Learning more and more about the dangers of it has changed my stance as a father. For you it's 4 years of high school. For me I see the many years of pop warner, middle school now, high school, and if my son is good enough, college and so on. I played college basketball, and believe that athletics is a must in my development of my son. Some things you get from team sports and coaching are life lessons that help in everyday life. After watching movies like "Concussion" and reading up on the safety of the sport, I wouldn't say that parents are making their kids soft for not letting them play football with the public knowledge spread about CTE the past 10 years. Yes they can die quicker in a car, but it's not just about them dying, it's their quality of life down the line. I love football, and I'm as tough as they come. I'm a U.S. veteran and ex athlete. I'm not going to chance my son having long term issues when it's now known those are the risks. He's eventually going to have to learn to drive to get around effectively in these days. Doesn't have to play football, but shouldn't be labeled as soft for not playing it. Now not making kids be active or coddling yes, but because they don't play football for safety concerns, no.
  13. I think he perfected it because of the "Alcindor Rule" that prevented college players from dunking from 67-76. It forced post players in college to develop touch around the basket. Now with the advances in training and supplements, which in turn are seeing bigger, more explosive athletes as a whole, dunking is a huge part of the game. You have Post guys that just dunk their way through high school, college, and the NBA and have good careers with no skill set as long as they rebound and block shots (Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan come to mind). The game is missing this and wanted, but to the kids almost not needed because they're gonna be taken off of size and athleticism anyway.
  14. Plus Doss is Tony's Alma Mater. I don't see him wanting to leave for any other school not named Ballard. He still may not want to leave. He's 2 for 2 in his years at Doss going to Rupp. Can't seeing him leave the school he loves and is succeeding at to go somewhere else, especially in the same region.
  15. I think Bird compares closer to Dirk than KD. KD is a lot quicker. Even with today's training I think Bird levels out closer to Dirk athletically than KD. Nothing wrong with that. Both are still future hall of famers. With that being said, I think any star or hall of famers from the 70's on could pretty much do well in this era with the same strength training and conditioning and supplements. If Draymond Green can star in today's league, Barkley surely could. Lebron is probably the most gifted athlete anyone has ever seen not named Bo Jackson, so that's a tough comparison for Magic. I understand because of the versatility though. I think Magic would be great though. Haven't seen a 6'9" PG outside of Lebron besides Magic. I think the Joakim Noah to Bill Russell comparison is fair, just because of their skill sets and size. Now guys are bigger all around. I think Kareem would be Kareem, and Wilt would be Wilt.
  16. Murray won't be able to check any starting pg halfway effectively in the West. I'd rather take Kris Dunn for Providence with that pick.
  17. I keep seeing Dow being mentioned for next year. Isn't he a senior this current school year?
  18. Is KY having a Junior All-Star team this year? I know they didn't last year.
  19. I agree that Pitino recruits one and done types. Tre Lyles, Antonio Blakeney, and De'Aron Fox this past year. D'Angelo Russell, but I don't think anyone saw him as a one and done before the season started, including himself. This is funny the jabs about him developing NBA talent. You don't develop talent. You're born with it. All of those guys Cal gets are already lottery talents, and would be lottery if were eligible to go from high school. No knock on him. He recruits NBA players (and nothing wrong with that). Pitino does too, but isn't as good at recruiting as Cal. Both guys do a decent job developing players IMO. I think Cal's players are already more talented than Pitino's coming in, so it's going to take longer. I think Donovan Mitchell is a great talent and a first rounder in 2 years, but he's no Murray. So it's apples and oranges in the players, whether they're McDonald's AA or not. It took Cauley-Stein 3 years. Terry Rozier 2. Harrell 3. Poythress 4. so I don't think Cal is necessarily the best at developing guys, he just is better at recruiting the better guys.
  20. That's probably the case. In seeing them play around Louisville, most teams either tried to get through screens (unsuccessfully), or switched (where they could get loose). Great strategy for NCC.
  21. Trinity shot about 45-46% from 3 as a team the whole season. That's why they didn't abandon the 3. Like previously stated, even in off games they'd have stretches where they'd stick 5 3's quickly in a quarter. Had about 7 guys shooting 40% or better from 3 on the season, and that's usually at at least 4 spots on the floor. They lived on the 3 and ball movement for 3's all season. died by it today.
