11th Region Rankings for the week of January 25th
Apologies for the tardiness in posting. I've been having internet problems at home and had to do these at work. Please don't tell my boss. 1. Dunbar – Out of action last week but face Lafayette and Bryan Station this week in a couple of city rivalry games. 2. Scott County – Went 3-1 in hosting the Toyota Classic. Lost without Freshman stud Michael Moreno. Beat Franklin County Monday night by 23 and are off the rest of the week. 3. Henry Clay – Beat Tates Creek handily last week. A rematch with Trinity and a city battle with Lafayette are on the schedule this week. 4. Lafayette – Dropped their only game in the Toyota Classic to Lake Brantley, Florida. Huge games against Dunbar and Henry Clay loom ahead for this week. 5. Lexington Catholic – Another team who sat out last week, the Knights go to Perry Central and Tates Creek this week. 6. Madison Central – Beat Bryan Station and West Jessamine before the snow and lost to Southwestern last night. The Indians are in good shape to be an 11th region contender as the end of the season approaches. Still have games on tap against Trinity and Tates Creek this week. 7. Lexington Christian – Back above .500 for the year and the newly crown all A champs for the 11th region, the Eagles will face Newport Central Catholic in what should be a good game at the All A state on Thursday. 8. Madison Southern – Defeated East Jessamine by 20 before getting drilled by Male last night. This team seems to beat every bad team they play and lose to every good one. Need to start peaking or it will be a short postseason. 9. Frankfort – All A Runners up after beating Model and losing to LCA, the Panthers face Nicholas County and Woodford County this week. 10. Bryan Station – Lost to Madison Central. Face Sayre, Dunbar and Taylor County this week. Hopefully Dishman comes back soon. 11. Model – Beat Sayre by 30 at the All A. Lost to Frankfort and Estill County. Still have Bourbon County and Robertson County on the schedule this week. 12. Woodford County – They beat Western Hills before the snow came. Face Collins and Frankfort this week. 13. Franklin County – Lost to Scott County by 23 last night, still face Western Hills in a big district matchup this week. 14. Western Hills – The best of the bad teams, I would not be surprised to see the Wolverines back in to the 11th region tournament. 15. Sayre – Losers of 5 in a row, the Spartans are struggling. The tail end of their schedule offers plenty of opportunities to get some wins. 16. Tates Creek – Losers of 4 in a row, I look at their schedule and am not sure they’ll win another game this season. They face Lexington Catholic and Madison Central this week. 17. Berea – Their best chance for another win this season is a return date against the School For the Deaf. Other than that, the wins are few and far between.

1. Coach Tackett voluntarily left Logan. He was literally living in an RV and driving home every weekend to see his wife in Eastern Ky. Once Twin Lancaster graduated, he went home. 2. Obviously you have no idea how traditionally terrible Logan County had been until his arrival. He took that school to the region tournament for the first time in decades. 3. As far as saying he forgot about putting a kid back in, Coach Tackett is a smart aleck. He wouldn't forget to put a kid back in. 4. Coach Tackett always switched his defenses at Logan. I guess his refusal to play man is due to a lack of personnel. When we had long athletes at Logan County we played plenty of man. Jair Jackson was always in foul trouble when I saw him so maybe he played zone to keep him from fouling. 5. Your personal vendetta gets old. Why don't you step out from behind your keyboard and address your issues with Coach Tackett?

Is Mercer County the best team in the state?
They, like Dunbar, do not have much of a bench. If they get into a tightly called game, they could find themselves in trouble if they have to go to their 8th/9th guys and beyond.

Greenup County 85 Mason County 77
I have said before and will say again that I was an assistant for Coach Tackett at Logan County. I find your repeated criticisms of him comical. Individuals like yourself are why Greenup has gone through 8 coaches since they ran Randy Ward out of town in 2000.

Thanks for the insight and research.

Greenup County 85 Mason County 77
Amazing how Harold Tackett can't coach but the team keeps winning.

Mercer County 84 Montgomery County 51
Jerryd Jones was 11/15 from the field.

HS coaches and AAU
All I know is that the Logan girls coach told me it had been changed and he could coach. Maze Stallworth coaches a couple of Casey County kids on Manimal and has for a few years. If it were an issue, I'd think the KHSAA would have said so by now.

You are allowed to coach up to 3 of your own kids. Back in my days as a HS coach, that rule was created and the girls head coach at Logan County coached 3 of his girls during the AAU season.

11th Region Rankings for the week of January 18th
1. Dunbar – Really tempted to put Scott County here but Dunbar has so many quality wins. The Bulldogs have 4 losses, but their schedule is much tougher to this point than Scott’s. Their only game this week is a district rematch against Lex Cath on Thursday night. 2. Scott County – Sitting at 19-1 through 2/3 of the season, the Cardinals are a very legitimate threat to win the 11th and get to Rupp. They host their annual Toyota Classic this week. 3. Henry Clay – The Devils have struggled lately, dropping 2 out of their last 4. They host Tates Creek Tuesday then the LIT Champion Ballard Bruins come to town on Wednesday night. 4. Lafayette – The Generals have won 6 straight and are undefeated in 2016. However, looking at their schedule, I don’t see one (to this point) win that makes you think they are capable of getting to Rupp. They take part in the Toyota Classic at Scott County starting Thursday night. 5. Lexington Catholic – Winners of 6 out of their last 9, the Knights have managed to play everyone close but have yet to get the marquee win they need to solidify themselves as a threat to return to Rupp. 6. Madison Central – The win over Dunbar was a huge one but they fell short against Hopkinsville on Friday night. They have a big week ahead with games against Bryan Station, West Jessamine, Lincoln County and Southwestern all in the next 5 days. 7. Lexington Christian – Losers of 6 in a row, LCA enters the All A as the heavy favorites to represent the 11th at the All A State tournament. A game against Berea on Monday is exactly what they need to get back on the winning side of things. 8. Madison Southern – This flock of Eagles have won all the games they should have and lost to everyone who is better than them. The loss to Berea is a surprise and probably an outlier. They play East Jessamine and Male this week. 9. Frankfort – 3 wins in a row for the Panthers, including a win over Bryan Station. I don’t think they can win a game in the region but I think they can get there. They’ll play in the All A this week. 10. Bryan Station – Sitting at 7-11 and losers of 8 in a row, the Defenders are REALLY hoping to see DeAndre Dishman back on the court soon before this whole season is lost. 11. Model – Can’t figure this team out. They beat Madison Southern and lost to Western Hills. They take on Sayre in the All A this week. 12. Woodford County – Losers of 4 out of their last 5, the Yellow Jackets play Western Hills, Bryan Station and Owen County this week. 13. Franklin County – Improving as the year goes along, the young Flyer squad has the look of a team that could sneak into the regional tournament next month. 14. Tates Creek – Only 3-13 but they play a much more difficult schedule than the rest of the teams at the bottom of the region and I can appreciate that. They should schedule the way Berea does. 15. Sayre – They face Model this week in the All A. If Jake Duby can get hot, he may carry them to the next round of the tournament. 16. Western Hills – They’ve split their last 4 games but their 3 most recent losses are by a combined 15 points. The Wolverines could show up in the 11th region tournament by the end of the year. 17. Berea – Picked up a big win over Burgin this week to end an 8 game losing streak. They host LCA in the All A on Monday night.

Wayne County 78 Hopkinsville 75
Bottom line is that Wayne won the game. Had Hoptown made their layups or gotten a couple more jumpers to fall, they probably win. Quality win for Wayne. Especially after losing less than 24 hours earlier.
-
Pulaski County 68 Montgomery County 59
Jerryd Jones started the game 3 for 3 from the field including a nice alley oop on the opening play of the game. Didn't touch the ball again for a while after that. I really like Caswell Fuller. Crafty and smart. Got a layup and then stole the inbounds for another one early. Think him being in foul trouble handicapped Montgomery.

Taylor County 65 South Laurel 58
Too bad Gatewood can't coach and Goodin and Sloan are selfish. :ohbrother:
-
Wayne County 78 Hopkinsville 75
I was there and I'm off the opinion that Wayne got some help from the officials down the stretch. Hoptown was full court pressuring Wayne and officials were anticipating fouls and calling them when they weren't happening. CJ Henagan made a heck of a hustle play to deflect an inbounds off of Wayne when it was a 1 point game. Should have been Hoptown ball. Instead, Henagan gets the foul and Wayne goes to the line. Overall, the officiating was solid but the last quarter was questionable at best. Pretty good game overall. Hoptown got to the rim with ease a lot, just missed about 40 layups. Good win for the 12th region.

Hall of Fame Classic at Southwestern
All of those are off by any hour. Grant and Barren are playing right now. Next game at 3. Hoptown and Wayne at 430.

KHSAA Rules
I honestly have no clue.

Greenup County 68 Belfry 54
So you're basically saying that Greenup County is winning despite Coach Tackett's best efforts to throw the game? :ohbrother:

Scott County 74 Henry Clay 63
The new high school won't have sports until after this group graduates. They said they didn't have enough budget to build the necessary sports venues like a gym, football field, baseball field, etc.
