They should be pretty strong this year. Henry Clay isn't anything like the Blue Devils of old but you blank them two straight years and you are doing something right.

Pikeville is a tough place to play unless you are Belfry......or Paintsville as of late. Panthers win this one.

@Wireman, I see that typical Lexington support in the stands for a fooball game. You would think that the first game ever, (Even on the road) would have been more heavily supported. Shame on me for thinking positive, LOL!

A few people have mentioned that the KHSAA voided the Russell contract, is that in the article and what did they do to void the contract? I havent been able to find anything on it.

Where in the world are you watching a high school game where a coach is wearing a baseball hat...........because I want to go & see this. :lol: travel teams, meh on the dresscode for the most part.

I've heard rumor that Douglass will end up taking between 7-9 starters from Stations team from last year, but I can't get a concrete number or names at this point.

If I were them I would be careful using anything that is used by Mizzou. They watchdog their logos and workmarks pretty seriously. I read a few articles on them bringing a lawsuit against a highschool that had used the tiger logo on their field, gym floor, uniforms, etc..... By the time it was all said & done, they were only allowed to keep the one logo in the stadium until they replace the turf then it had to go away. They had to replace all their uniforms etc...... If I can find the article, I will post it. Miami is also very protective, they sued Umatilla High School over the use of the "U" logo. I worked with CLC, Collegiate Licensing Company to get permission to use a logo of a school they represented & it took several months to get through the legals of it, but in the end safeguarded us from getting sued later down the road. This is definitely one time asking for permission first is better than waiting and asking for forgiveness!

Pikeville has lost 3 of their last 4 games after starting 19-0. After looking at their schedule, I'm not so sure they have prepared themselves for the long run if they can get past the 15th Region tournament. Johnson Central on the otherhand, wow, what a schedule they have put together and played!

Congrats to Coach Yates. Tates Creek has a supportive AD over there & a lot of people who want them to do well. Hopefully he can turn that program around, its had several tough years.

Technically in the fine print, a coaching job is supplemental, so its a year to year contract. Sounds a little crazy for the district to do that, but that's none of my business.

I respect your opinion! Hard to change the culture of a high school program if you are not in the building though. It just makes it a tough row to hoe if you know what I mean. The players dont have a coach to turn to in the building if they need it & the coach isn't there to handle any day to day issues that might crop up.

@Juke, what "experienced" candidates applied if you don't mind sharing. Also I would like to add, hiring a coach isn't as easy as some people on BGP tend to think it it is. Honestly, I want a coach that is in the building. If the applicants don't fit into the present openings that a school has for teaching positions & I can't offer them a teaching job, why would they want to coach there? I took over an athletic department at a school with roughly 50% of all the head coaches in the building, when I left that school, I had 90% of my head coaches in the building & it was glorious. When I was an AD & had an opening, if there are a bunch of out of district applicants, I would tell them straight from the beginning if there were no openings in their curriculum and let them decide from there if they wanted to continue the process at that point, 99% of them said thanks for the info & didn't continue. No reason wasting their time or the hiring committee if they didn't fit our needs in the classroom & as a coach. I had to pass on several coaches I would have liked to have had to coach my teams due to them not fitting the puzzle of staffing. On the flipside of this debate is a school like Douglass in Lexington, who is building a teaching staff & can easily fill all of its coaching positions due to the availability of openings at a new school. Its a dream position for an AD as if you find someone you want, you have a spot for them almost guaranteed.

not so sure I would have left Danville for LCA. That program has never really recovered since shortly after winning State. In fact, I remember them having difficulty putting a Freshman & JV team together to field 3 full teams.

Herb Hammond at Henry Clay did this for quite some time. He hasn't coached there since 2009. Its just whatever floats your boat really & makes it easier to adjust to your style & technique. I am like you @Just Jim, when I coached I always liked the hand jesture technique.

Football coach was & currently still is in some capacity UK defensive quality control coach until his contract is up from what I have heard.
