I know they're building a team from scratch & you have to start somewhere, which IMO they have done well at doing up to this point, but I fully expect them to step up their scheduling a little on the next cycle. They're in for two really tough games at Pikeville & hosting Hazard & the trip alone to Phelps will make the kids from Sayre wonder if it was worth the trip. That's a good 3.5hrs one way on a bus from the cozy confines of Lexington. Heck, growing up in that area I dreaded having to go to Phelps. ?

This is what happens when parents complain about "redistricting" & don't want their kid to be moved from what they view as a prestigious school to a school that they see view as not as good. Henry Clay gets referred to as Old Money & they hold onto that as long as they can. It honestly would be easy to look at the attendance areas of the schools & cut away a portion to give to a school that has lower attendance.

From a source I have inside TCHS, there are no plans to do anything to the stadium, during or after the school is built.

One thing I will say that has been a total disservice to Douglass while they are in 5A is that they have been forced to play the other 5 city schools. If I am looking at their schedule correctly, 9 of their 10 games are basically spoken for, leaving the Boyle Co. game the only one that they had the freedom to schedule an opponent. Lexington still hasn't figured it out like Louisville has that you dont have to play someone from the city every year. (yes I know Louisville is much larger & has many more public schools) but you have to admit, its pretty awesome being able to schedule 6-7 games around your district opponents & not be tied down to the same teams year in & year out.

Personally I don't think that Tates Creek will make a swing like Douglass has, unless something has changed, the stadium is not getting anything done to it during the school rebuild. The gym & the baseball field will be totally new however. (not sure about the softball field)

I guess I should rephrase: Outside of football, I don't see anyone afraid of playing any of their other programs. Their volleyball team was 7-7 last year & lost in the districts & I'm not even going to go there with a cheer comparison between them & the likes of Paul Dunbar & Henry Clay..... IMO, Station is gaining confidence & will be the first football team to beat Douglass from the city public schools.

Unfortunately FCPS built this school due to overcrowding at pretty much every other high school in the city, not to attempt to build a super school. For a city of almost 400K to only at that time have 5 public high schools & 3 privates, it was a little much. They've only competed in football honestly, every other sport is lagging behind terribly there outside of the boys basketball team & the baseball/softball teams that had a great season last year.

I get that a small school beating a bigger school sometimes could be perceived as an "upset" but in this case, I wouldn't go that far. As for the talent rich city, Lafayette, Dunbar & Tates Creek got beat by a combined score of 146-0 last Friday. If Douglass woulda been able to play Henry Clay, it would have probably been 200+ to 0. The state of the public school programs in Lexington is really down outside of Douglass & Bryan Station.

Whats up with the Administration?

I feel that there are some "academies" that are polar opposites of others in regards to requirements & honestly it needs to be tightened up. Dunbar with MSTC, Henry Clay with the Academy & Lafayette with SCAPA & the Pre-Engineering are quite a bit more rigorous with testing to even qualify for the program, than Tates Creeks IB program, Bryan Station with the IT program & I don't know enough about Douglass to speak on their academies.

So technically you are wrong, but its not a big deal. EJ Hayes Middle also feeds into Douglass, although it does also send kids to Henry Clay as well. With the way the academy system is set up, kids that also live in other Fayette County attendance areas can go to another school if they apply or qualify for a program that's offered at one of the other schools. Also you have the Carter G. Woodson component where all of those high school kids play for Douglass as well, no matter where they live in the county.

Congrats to Coach Garvin for getting the position. Does anyone know if he will he be working in the building as a teacher there? I'd say this will be a big adjustment for him to go from Division 1 MEAC Conference to high school basketball.

All Bryan Station has to do is to request that the posting be taken down, it doesnt automatically happen........ Just like when they hired their last basketball coach, the posting was still up a good year or so after he was coaching ?

With the way FCPS is, the guarantee of a teaching slot isn't 100% especially at this time of the year. Non-renewals of non-tenured teachers had to be in early last month, so the timing doesn't help them at all. They will have to fill in a spot with what they have available unless they have a surprise retirement or a teacher moves or transfers.

Thinking back, that school has had a ton of turnover on thesidelines; Griesser, Wise, Osborne, Holland, Daniel & now Wright and thats just in the last 10-11 years. ?

I would say with almost certainty, that they will definitely want someone who is in the building for this position.

Wonder what happened there? Thats the second former star Defender basketball player turned head coach that has left after just a few seasons.

Personally I think they need to attempt to keep Jerry on as Head Coach if he is open to that. From a distance it was apparent that he had a great impact on those kids during his time there as Interim HC.

Any movement on this position? Haven't heard a thing about it....

I'm surprised Lewis Co. beat Boyd Co. I thought for sure that Boyd Co. was going to get a third try at the Tomcats.

Looks like another year of sweeping the city with Scott Co. & Lex Cath as their two toughest games IMO. Since they are required to play all the other city schools in Fayette Co. & none of those schools are 5A & in their district, the flexibility of their schedule really takes a hit only being able to play one team out of the 10 games outside of what is required. I would think that it would be frustrating not being able to go out & get a couple games against some big time competition like we see the other programs here in the state that are able to do that.

Not saying they wouldn't have been able to beat them, but thats counting some chickens before they hatched putting them into the Sweet 16 & they still would have had LexCath to go through to get there. :idunno:

But by taking this away, it gives that tenured teacher less reason to want to be there, especially if they still have the fire & desire to coach..... That being said, I've been in places before that ran through coaches like I go through a buffet & they colleced up several from multiple sports just taking up space making it more difficult to hire in someone new due to lack of positions..... :idunno:

Turf technology has come a long way to say the least on this stuff being able to withstand a beating much better than the older turf. That being said, not having soccer practicing & playing on it where they have their own field makes a difference as well..... the less traffic one field sees, the better it is in the long run.
