The second part is very accurate. I never saw coaches going at refs, but the goal is to build confidence and cohesion for offensive and defensive skill position groups. If you're a coach you want to see who's going to compete and make plays. There were a lot of great teams there this weekend, with some awesome athletes all over the place. In all Highlands played 9 games. Went 6-3. Loses to LCA and Male in pool play and wins over Apollo, Grant County, Betsy Lane, Somerset, North Hardin (who has a stud receiver) Ironton, Ohio, before losing to Boyle in final 4 round. The Birds JV went 3-0 against other JV teams and beat a Frederick Douglass JV team and lost a close one to Ryle's Varsity in bracket play. Hopefully all teams got in some great work, got better as a team and kept everyone healthy.

Highlands had to play 2 of those games in the district and beat them 105-0. And scored 60 in the third game. But I'm sure it just wasn't good enough....

Give them a hamburger, they want a hot dog. 40 points a game last year isn't too shabby.

My guess would be job conflicts since most are employed outside the school. Or maybe the time commitment gets in the way and real life has to be handled. I'm sure most schools across the state run into the same issues in the off season.
