Moeller (OH) is looking for a head football coach...again.

Mighty Moe is looking for a new head football coach for a second year in a row. Last year they parted ways with John Rodenberg, and now today the school announced that head coach and alum Doug Rosfeld was leaving after one year to join Bengals head coach Zac Taylor's coaching staff.

 

The Crusaders named Todd Naumann the interim head coach while they conduct their search to make a new hire.

I've wondered the same thing to myself a couple of times. I know they have upwards of 20 coaches on their varsity football staff. I would think that it has to be every bit as upscale and demanding as a D3, or even maybe a D2 college football program. I can only assume that's why Moeller has seeing so many of their former coaches make their way into the college and NFL coaching ranks.

 

I got to speak with Doug back in April or May, and the way he was talking, it definitely sounded like the Moeller head coaching job was his dream job. He's a Moeller football alum, and lived right behind the school. I'd have to assume the NFL job comes with a substantial pay raise for him, and especially when we're talking pro football money, I think that's tough to overlook when a person is being asked to meet all of the expectations and time commitments required of a head football coach.

I’d imagine there’s a lot of pressure that comes with the Moeller job, but I could have the best high school football job in the world, and I’d likely jump ship if I had a shot to coach in the NFL.

If this job is like running a D3 or maybe even a D2 school, why in the heck would he not be interested? Not sure what his long term aspirations are, but going to Moeller would certainly be a step up in the coaching profession.

I do not believe that he has aspirations beyond the high school level. Also have to consider that he is an alumni of Highlands and probably could have been a head coach quite some time ago if he really wanted to coach elsewhere.

Eddie's name was 100% on Moeller's preliminary short list when Rodenberg officially resigned after the 2017 season. I'm not sure whether or not things progressed far enough for them to actually reach out to Coach Eviston and ask him to interview. The deal was sealed with Doug Rosfeld in quick order.

Doug and his wonderful bride are already up to 6 kids. I don't think this decision to go work for the Bengals had anything to do with the working environment at Moe... :lol2:

1. Eviston was not on any list last time around. The job was Pat McLaughlin's (alum and LaSalle head coach) until Rosfeld emerged late in the process.

 

2. All GCL coaches are paid according to the GCL scale for that particular sport. All head coaches receive the same "base" and then percentage increases are given for years experience. It is not $40,000. Of course schools get creative with positions and other stipends for weight room duty, etc. I believe Rosfeld held a position either in the alumni or development office. Everyone would be shocked with what these guys actually make. This ain't Texas. The Covington Diocese is even worse because they have a unified scale for all schools. The Cincinnati Archdiocese does not. Moeller can pay its people whatever it can afford, but must abide by the coaches pay scale set by the GCL. So, in all likelihood the Bengals doubled or even tripled what Rosfeld was making at Moeller.

 

3. Maybe Eviston will be considered this time around. Who knows, but Cincinnati is a different beast and he doesn't have any experience dealing with it. A lot more competition to get kids to come to your school because there are so many choices. Rodenberg was very familiar that process having spent so many years at McNick before going to CCH. With the turnover the last 24 months, my guess is they will be valuing loyalty this time around and looking for someone to be in the job for awhile.

Eddie coached at Norwood prior to NCC. So he has been over the water coaching.

If any coach was offered by Moeller from this side of the River they would be Crazy not to take it. If they want Eviston bad enough they will find the money to pay him! Plain and simple.
