  1. There are 12 Louisville schools and 4 "state" schools invited. They seed the top 4 Louisville schools and they have a bye in the 1st round and I believe the other 8 Louisville schools are drawn to see who plays who. The winners of those games play the 4 seeded Louisville schools in the 2nd round. The winners of those games play the the "state" schools in the 3rd round. Then on to the final 4 and championship game. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes but others on here probably know better then me.
  2. To the 70% that picked CC...please tell us you are picking the Steelers on Sunday
  3. The old adage "be careful of what you ask for" creeps into mind when you talk about getting a "big name coach." It's doesn't seem to be working out for the folks in Union right now.
  4. I think this is Anderson's year. They are hungry and are looking to avenge last year's loss in the finals. Barring injuries I'm picking them to dethrone the Pioneers.
  5. The SK frosh play Conner tonight (The). Nelson started against Cov. Cath. I'll let you know if he starts tonight. If he doesn't Jason Turner is the number 2.
  6. I have to say this.. My son plays for SK frosh, and as hard as it is for me to say being a Dixie alum from many moons ago, we sat on the shaded side of the field last evening, pretty much in the middle of the Cov. Cath fans, and I was impressed by their behavior throughout the game. The score looks like a blowout, but it was a little closer than it looked. I heard no derogatory comments, no yelling at the officials, just positive encouragement and cheering for their boys. The rest of us fans can learn from this. Again, I have absolutely no love for Cov. Cath (lol), but I was impressed!
  7. I've been told SK platoons to develop the players at this level and are not that concerned about wins and loses. Is this true? If it is, then I get it. If it isn't, they need to really look hard at the defense IMO. Giving up 38,20, and42 points makes it very difficult to compete.
  8. Just an outside observation; at some point the fingers have to stop being pointed at the players and maybe pointed at the coaching. Lack of discipline, looking unprepared and lack of adjustment during gameplay ultimately reflects on the coaching staff, and particularly on the head coach.
  9. Fun game to watch. Both offenses moved the ball well. Both teams have some work to do on defense and special teams. Parking as usual was horrid as there was volleyball or something going on at the same time. It will be fun to see the progress ( or lack there of) when these 2 teams meet again later this season in Independence.
  10. #70 from Ryle cut through Cov Cath's offensive line like a hot knife through butter! Where was this kid Friday night? When the refs stopped letting CC hold this kid, the offense was forced to adjust and began to double and triple team him. It played beautifully in the hands of the Ryle defense. CC's offensive line didn't know what hit'em and it created opportunities for everyone else. Well done...
  11. Keep this name in the back of your minds.. Quentin Carr.-JR. 5'11 270 Lbs. Raider nation may be in for a big surprise...
  12. Let's be real about one thing....the tryout was to fill 1 to 3 spots...I have no problem with that...A few of the players (quite a few IMO) were rewarded with a spot on the team based on their career numbers..and where they are playing at the next level, NOT how they did in the tryout or how they showed out in the game that followed or the previous All Star game.(except for the before mentioned 1-3 open spots). .Again, I have no problem with that. But be honest about it. All that being said, good luck to the Ky. All Stars!
  13. Not going to argue the facts as presented in the article. But I do agree with what someone said in a previous post about that there is no one playbook to recruiting and everyones path is different. I will also go a step further and say that in the world we live now it (the path) depends on the sport. As an example, my daughter received 11 scholarship offers for basketball, some partials, some full rides. Of the 11 that offered ONLY ONE of the coaches ever saw her play a high school game, and ONE saw her in a high school summer scrimmage..and it was the same coach! The other 10 offers she received came from coaches that saw her playing summer ball. And if I'm lying i'm dying, on three seperate occasions I had college coaches tell me that they could care less about what a player does in high school (stats etc.) because they said that night in and out they might only be playing against 1 or sometimes 2 good players..thats why they valued what they do on the court in AAU ball more than high school ball. Believe me i'm not saying this to put down playing sports for high school teams, and I know that its not the way it works in all sports, it was just an example of the way it is in some.
  14. Heres a basketball one...was playing in a gameand got 2 fouls called in the 1st 3 min. of the game and the coach took me out and motioned for me to cone to the end of the bench.."I know you're just a sophomore, and I don't know if anybody has told you this before but son, you only get 5 fouls in a game..try to spread them out a little."
  15. Wish it could be better or the future could look better for the kids but doubt it...been there done that...I was one of the "transplants"...they can't get out of their own way (power-control-pride) I could write a book on the things I saw and experienced in the 13 yrs I was down there, but don't have the time or inclination...
  16. Just a quick ? for Hoosiers and mamaw..why do you all put so much emphasis on D1 players? I think that any kid that has the ability and talent to play at the next level is special whether it be NCAA D 1-2 OR 3 or NAIA D1 or 2. Is an NCAA D1 athlete more talented than a NAIA D1 athlete? In most cases yes..But a Full ride is a full ride. And many of those athletes who concerned themselves more with the name across the jersey than whether the team or the school was a good fit for them end up at one the "lower division" schools. Sorry and not trying to stsrt a fight but I hate it when people put such an emphasis on what division an athlete plays at.
  17. Thanks...and you are right about Schwartz..but what really impressed me about the game was the play of the other 3 starters...that was the key I talked about in the prediction thread..how they would react on the big stage..they certainly answered that question. Shelby was blessed with 11 offers to choose from and chose Campbellsville University..
  18. Great game tonight, great atmosphere. Tonight to me seemed kind of like the changing of the gaurd so to speak. You had the older battle tested warriors in Niece and Harmeyer, who weathered the storms of competion of high school basketball, Ally since 6th grade and Shelby since 8th grade, now giving way to the up and coming younger group of players ie; Scherr, Schwartz, Jones, Stamper etc..now, since Shelby's high school career is over and since this will probably be my last post on the girls H.S. threads, a few proud dad comments..I want to say how proud I am of Shelby. Ally has been one of the best girls players to play in Ky. and Shelby knew that coming in when she made the choice to come to SK. She knew that most of the attention would be given to Ally and she would be in her shadow so to speak. I think she handled it superbly.. I am proud of her toughness...she overcame a stress fracture in her leg her first season at SK and still managed to be the second high scorer and 3rd high rebounder on the team. She has played the last 2 seasons with foot and shoulder issues against my wishes, especially this season because she said she felt the team needed her because Ally was out. I am proud of her maturity.. before she came to SK she was a different kind of player. She was a more active player on offense, but she was asked to be more of a role player(shooter) at SK..I think this bothered me more than it did her because she accepted it without complaint, and I guess the fact that she holds the SK record for most 3's in a single game (7) and fell 5 short of breaking the school record for most 3's in a single season (70) meant I was wrong. And lastly I'm proud of her being a good kid. There is no greater compliment than to have parents of younger players compliment you on how good of a kid you have and how she has helped them and encouraged them, or opposing teams coaches tell you how great of a kid you have. Sorry for the long speel. Good luck to Ryle and good luck Shelby and Ally on their college careers!
  19. My thoughts are these...when Ally went down, pretty much everyone wrote SK off..think about it, you hardly ever saw any posts about them on BGP almost the entire season..there was no media coverage...you hardly ever saw a box score unless it was when they played a Campbell...but all this team did is keep playing and working. There have been alot of great points made on this thread both ways. The thing that sticks out in my mind is whether this game feels any different to Ryle's players..to me, that's a big key to this game. Of SK'S starting 5, all have been on this stage( Sweet 16) at least once, a couple are making their 3rd trip to the show, and this is the 2nd time for half of the roster. Because of AAU and KYP I know Schwartz and Scherr have been on a similar stage, so I don't think it affects them; I don't know many of the other players backgrounds on Ryle's team, and given the youth, I wonder if it does affect them. I look for this to be one of the best games of the 1st round. And as that old adage goes, you can throw the 1st 2 games out the window..ask anyone who watched SK V Franklin last year in this same tourney..
  20. Everyone has a right to their opinion..wasn't bashing you at all for it..of course I want to see SK win..my daughter's on the team..I was just stating my opinion that there were probably people saying the same thing in the 2 example games I listed..and not to start an argument or debate, in what ways is Ryle a better team in your opinion?
