Confirmed with the same source that told me about the applicants. Congrats to Coach Rogg. He was the freshman coach down there for a few years. Didnt have a whole lot to work with on that level. Quite frankly I'm a little surprised by this. But it makes sense. He knows the game and will be dedicated to those kids. Also have heard he was kinda the "people's choice" among the city. Administration had to decide Dayton guy or not, said yes so it eliminated Menifee. So then came down to Walls, Dilts or Rogg. Walls had the previous head coaching experience, but recently left Dayton football. Curious. Couldn't have helped his case. Got to think he'll continue to coach with Scott. Nate Dilts was probably hurt by his connection to his dad, as maybe they just wanted a different direction. Seemed like he was very active on the bench, but like I said, very possible the administration just wanted someone with new ideas. Also is still a young coach. Wouldn't be surprised if he is on staff, or coaching elsewhere in NKY. So in a way seems like they get the best of both worlds. A guy that was involved enough to know the program and situation and can provide continuity but can also implement some new ideas. Good for him. The only thing I question is simply it doesnt seem to me he coached a ton of games. But what I've seen and heard he's a solid guy. Congrats and good luck to Coach Rogg and the Greendevils.

So... Will the Final Four games be split into two separate sessions Saturday?

I liked the old format, but the Tuesday to Saturday idea is interesting. Id still want Friday split into two sessions though.

This question I'm directing toward Walter because I feel like he would be the one most likely with the answer, but does anyone know if any of the Holmes Varsity roster is playing AAU anywhere other than Bolden? I know a majority this past year were seniors, but thought that Chames and maybe Housely would be playing summer ball somewhere.

Have heard rumblings that they set up interviews after the school comes back from spring break. But heard nothing more on who they might be interviewing.

Alright, I can understand that and agree with it. But outside those games it needs to be totally random. Amongst the qualified top however many that is. I just meant that, if it was being implied that the higher the quality of basketball in general deserves the best officials, which is basically stating that the better teams in the region should always get the best referees, I wholeheartedly disagree with that idea.

I thought overall the referees didn't do a bad job on the varsty level this year, especially in the ninth. But I did have some problems with the JV/Freshmen officials at times. And I understand thats where the guys that are learning are at, but there isn't enough guidance for them or in some cases effort given. Number one, just as in any job that requires a person lift heavy equipment, it needs to be a requirement that these guys can get up and down the floor in a reasonable manner. If you can't run, you can't ref. It's that simple. And two, I really just think the 'lines' of sight need to be emphasized more. Too many times you see a young guy call a foul from under the basket that occurs up top. Now I understand that 'call what you see' is probably emphasized. But what you see if effected by where you are looking, and too many don't understand that. The judgement calls... That's the kinda stuff you learn as you go. But those two things have to be mandated. IMHO.

This thinking right here is a huge problem. I don't totally disagree that you want the best refereeing the big games. But the problem is is who is to determine what is 'big.' Ask the DIII teams if they think their game is 'big' and they will tell you HECK YES IT IS! To those guys their games are just as important. For instance, if say Holmes plays NCC some random January night this past year, most everyone will say that is a huge game and deserves good officials. But what if at the same time (using this years standings) Ludlow plays Villa Madonna? Which game is 'bigger?' Well most people would tell you NC/Holmes no doubt. But ask the small school guys and they would tell you that the Ludlow/Villa game could likely decide the conference, and it needs good officials. How bout on the same night there is a Ryle/Boone County game, a Bellevue/Dayton game, and a Heritage/Cov Latin game also. Are those games big? You bet they are, because you have big rivalries, big conference/district games, and maybe the only chance for a win for a team all season! Everyone needs the good officials! It needs to be truly random. That is, if a official is deemed in the top 40 for the region (or whatever number they use to determine varsity officials), then they need to placed in a pool, and have a computer totally randomly spit out the assignments. That's the only way it can be fair to everyone. The 'important' games are too subjective... They're all important to those guys out there bustin' their rears for W's....

So is it basically a foregone conclusion that they will go in house? Dawn, Collopy, Meyer, or Pangallo? I feel like Meyer and Pangallo have been there for a long time, but it could just be me.

With the move to DII and emphasis on football this could be a tough place to succeed nowadays.

I am not sure what this has to do with anything that we are talking about.. All I said was there was not a lot of talent that I saw in the one game I saw them play. You still have the same talent no matter who you play. I have no dog in the fight. Nor do I. Was just making the observation.

:lol2: No connection to the program. It just doesn't take much to know the program well. As with any DIII school. I'm not sure how familiar you are with that conference but I'm sure any casual observer who's seen a handful of NKAC DIII games in the last year or so knows the scouting report (hence its not hard to know that Dallas Dunaway has been scoring for the Grove's varsity team since he was in 7th gradee). It's 7 teams of small schools that have the same names and faces for four years straight. There are no suprses.

Additionally, I believe they were heavily favored in 2011 and that was a pretty shocking upset when Hickey and Christian County took them down.

Posted this in the job openings thread yesterday but judging by the other threads involving coaches thought it might go hear as well... The names floating around for this one that I've heard include Bo Menifee, Mike Walls (former Silver Grove HC and current Scott assistant, Dayton grad),JV coach Nathan Dilts, freshman coach Bill Rogg, former assistant Darrell Patton, and Highlands JV coach Steve Hunt.

Hopefully they can kick start the Lions program. MSJ had a nice run in the mid 2000's but seems have lagged behind TMC lately.
