Ruckerpark
Mark Story: KHSAA to decide soon whether to make Sunday Sweet Sixteen finals a regular thing | High school basketball | Kentucky.com Thoughts? Was great this year because of the Madison Central and Montgomery County crowds. However, state was looking at under 10,000 had Ballard and Hoptown played on Sunday. Start it on Tuesday, semi night of Friday, finals Saturday afternoon maybe ?

DragonFire
I know me and Jack are in agreement on this one. I know for my part it's likely because I'm a traditionalist, but I really enjoyed the old format.

Start it on Tuesday, semi night of Friday, finals Saturday afternoon maybe ? This WOULD be the best way of doing it, even play the finals on Saturday night if you want. The semis need their own day, the teams need to rest a litte and get off playing on Sunday, come on!!
plantmanky
So play on a tuesday and miss another day of school to play in an athletic event?
spindoc
I think plantman has a point. I agree with the finals on a separate day and believe it gives the best opportunity for each team in the final to be fairly/evenly rested and you get the best game. So, with that in mind, considering the association is gonna have to rent Rupp another day either way, I'd guess that Sunday final will be the way to go. I'm sure the Hyatt won't mind. PurplePride92
So play on a tuesday and miss another day of school to play in an athletic event? Says who? The schools that truly care about that day they missed add that day onto the end of the year.
PurplePride92
Having been to the last 5 Sweet 16s I LOVED the format this year for my own selfish reasons. I have always hated the space filler in between the semis and the finals. This year was lovely with the semifinals having their own true stage and the game Sunday afternoon was perfect. This isn't AAU or Bass Fishing. Even football doesn't start as early as 10AM on a Saturday. That's horrible. I wish I had a vote. I'd vote for Wednesday through Sunday without hesitation. It was so much more enjoyable.
gchs_uk9
So play on a tuesday and miss another day of school to play in an athletic event? I think that has been the argument put forth by school administrators in the past.
PurplePride92
I think that has been the argument put forth by school administrators in the past. Lincoln County called school off when their girls went to Diddle this year and they added the day onto the end of the school year. That's the winning answer to the argument. gchs_uk9
Lincoln County called school off when their girls went to Diddle this year and they added the day onto the end of the school year. That's the winning answer to the argument. Of course it is. I never understood the argument in the first place. Why is it not just like a snow day or any other weather day? I think the logic might be "by adding a day to the calendar this late in the year we are adjusting graduation times" and that is a fair point. But most schools/districts make the state tournament so infrequently that it would only be a minor adjustment. And graduation is two months later than the state tournament. gchs_uk9
Financially, I think both the KHSAA and Lexington would want to keep the quarterfinals on Friday. Friday attendance is usually pretty big because it's easier to slip out of work, etc. By bringing in eight schools and fanbases that day, you get large gates and lots of people boosting the Lexington economy in other ways. By moving everything up and playing the quarterfinals on Thursday, I'm not sure you get that same impact.
