I liked the old format, but the Tuesday to Saturday idea is interesting. Id still want Friday split into two sessions though.

To school districts who are responsible for scheduling and to parents/families who have to make alternative plans for underage children missing "another whole day of school" actually is a bigger deal than Sunday.

 

I think Julian Tackett said one reason the Sunday final was scheduled in the afternoon was so fans would have the opportunity to attend a church service in the morning if they wanted to.

 

Sorry, we'll just agree to disagree because to me Sunday is more important than "another whole day of school"!!! You and I BOTH know that the people attending the state tournament are NOT going to get up and go to church in Lexington!!

I'm all for the Sunday finals. I feel like the quality of play in the Saturday night finals suffers because of the morning SF games — and usually only one of them is actually played in "the morning." It also gives people who don't normally go to the Saturday SFs a chance to see what usually have been among the best games in the tournament. I'm all for letting the "Saturday morning secret" get out to everyone.

 

As far as the "four classes = more fans" argument, I don't think anyone has that whacked-out idea in their head. We already have Indiana's mucked-up state tournament format as an example of how dumb that is.

The people who WANT to attend church will still do so regardless of what day or time the game is.

Ok, I see. I kind of figured that would please the school districts instead of upsetting them, most don't allow their teams to play on Sunday anyway unless they're in the All A which I think is hypocritical!!!

Start the game at 7:00 and most everyone will be home around midnight.

No different than snow days IMO. Close the school and add the days on at the end of the year.

And say Boone Co Girls and Conner Boys win the 9th region.......is all of Boone Co school system to close each week? Does only Boone Co close the Wednesday-Friday of the Girls Sweet 16 and Conner close the Wednesday-Friday of the Boys Sweet 16? Is it reasonable to say Boone Co school is closed Thursday but will only be closed Friday if the Girls win Thursday night?

 

Entire Covington school district (grade schools too) closed on Wednesday, had class on Thursday and closed Friday since Holmes won their first round game. But Rupp is only 100 miles away. What is their girls had won and it was Bowling Green? What if the Sweet 16s go to Tuesday-Saturday? If Holmes were to play Tues, Thurs, Fri., Sat that is a lot of re-scheduling for parents to find childcare for young children if school may or may not be closed all of those days.

Very true. I only know what Lincoln County did this season and last season. I believe Rockcastle County also did the same when they went to state as well. Boyle County made up the day when the football team went to state also but football is a different animal.

I do like what Mason County did a few years ago. They regularly made the boys state tournament so they began scheduling their Spring Break for state tournament week. That eliminated any potential conflicts (although they would have had to make plans the next week/prior week had the girls made the state).

 

I don't know if they still do this, but I would think any school that made regular appearances in either the boys or the girls would be wise to align their school schedule as such.

Mason hasn't been in the last 3 years. Not sure when their spring break was this year.
